About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

Nice Greens, Decent layout - great value
For some reason, I had never played this course before - finally got around to it and found a pleasant surprise!
The greens are in great shape, they don't look like it, but they roll quick and pure, with quite a bit of subtle undulation and break. For the price point, easily the best in Austin.
Fairways were decent, but it does start getting a bit sketchy if you're in the rough.
Layout really isn't bad at all. Some good par-5's, really nice par-3's and the majority of the 4's require some thought and accuracy. While it isn't a "tight" layout by any means, positioning is important off the tee. Most of the 4's on the back are shorter, so not many drivers are needed. A couple on the front are pretty demanding off the tee.
Overall, I'd definitely consider this a hidden gem in Austin. Great staff, good course - at a GREAT price.
This course has lush fairways and tight greens
The course is in the best shape its seen in last 5 years hats off to greens keeper. Staff is friendly very out going asking opinion of course and pace of play. We did get behinds some older gentlemen with push carts who were a little slow . Our 4 some usually plays this course in a 3 :20 round . Sunday manage to get in a 3:55 round having to wait just view minutes on the t box's.
Well-maintained and a fun course to play, but the pace is a little forced
Overall, the course was well-maintained, and there were a variety of holes with different hazards and challenges, but the course staff pushes for a somewhat ridiculous pace of play. They barely space out their groups, to the point that you almost always feel rushed taking a shot. If not for the super-fast pace of play, I would have enjoyed my round much more.
Course might need to monitor slow play etiquette
Pace of play is still affected by slower groups not allowing faster one's through when there is more than one hole empty ahead of the slower group.
There was no course marshall to recognize this and direct the slower group to do so when they refused to do so on their own.
This course is in the best shape I've ever played it!
Pace of play was great! The greens and most all fairways are in very nice shape! p.s. Will be back as long as it stays in this kind of condition! DWS
Great day golfing Father's day
The staff had to deal with a few problems being a busy day, but had my well being at utmost concern. I highly recommend this course. The finishing 3 holes are about the most fun in the entire state.
Great value!
Interesting course layout, challenging but not impossible to navigate. A definite must play and enjoy, play the White tees for fun and the Blue tees for ego.
Pleasantly surprised. Didn't expect much for being in that part of town. Great value.
Great pricing which included cart fee. I think caters to an older clientele but the pace was great. Course was fun and well maintained.
Fun course with great greens!
Even from the back tees two par 5's are reachable easily in two. There are several par 4's that you can hit iron off the tee as well and still have a 9 iron for your second shot. The greens are very nice and roll true with cups that are cut correctly and reward accurate putts. I had a blast playing this course, there was plenty of water supplied for the players and the pace of play was great. I'll be back to this course very soon.
Friendly staff. Nice greens. Fairways are nice but a little tight in some areas. Greens put well and speed is medium I would say. probably 8. Fun
Fun course to play and a great value. Experience the rolling terrain, nice view, good course conditions and nice greens for a great price. Pace of play is good. Played yesterday with a golfing friend in 31/2 hrs. If You want to have a good time , play a good course, and not spend a lot this is the best course in Austin for that. It has some challenging holes mixed with some holes that offer real birdie opportunities. You can't go wrong here. Also has a decent proshop and smack area with burgers, sandwiches, drinks.
I always enjoy Blurbonnett.
Good option for weekend in Austin
I played this with the guys in my family. We were looking for a decent place with an available tee time on Sunday. We were looking on late Saturday night. We went there after a rain shower the day before, and fairways and greens were nice condition.
I'd play there again.
Best conditions I've ever seen at Bluebonnet Hill
You can tell the recent rain and diligence of Bluebonnet Hill's groundskeeping crew have made an impact; the course is in better shape now than I've ever seen it. The greens rolled true and held high wedge shots while keeping stimp speeds between 8-10. Tee boxes were manicured and in good condition. Fairways had plenty of green grass with only one spot of hard pan on #1.
I enjoyed my round immensely and look forward to returning soon.
Greens are in Great shape.
Bluebonnet Golf Course has some of the best greens on a open to the public golf course in the Austin area. The fairways need a little help in places, but overall a good play.
Good course
Great change of pace. I have not hit on a couse for a yr. and I really enjoyed it (except the heat in the PM is tough).
Course has many undulations and hazzards. Bring extra balls for this one-as some fairways have narrow necks at lift off!
Very fun to play!
I had a great time and shot my best round! Will play again soon!
best greens in town
I love the condition of the greens at Bluebonnet. The greens keepers deserve a big slap on the back for keeping them this way throughout the year . The only draw back was the group in front of us was not policed by the marshal. Home of the five hour round was more like it. two compete holes in front of us were open. If they fix that problem it would rate a 5
God course for the money.
Fairways and greens were way above average. Sand traps need major attention.
Great value and fun to play.
I enjoyed this course quite a bit. There were some nice water hazards to work around or over. Not too difficult but enough that it is a decent challenge. My one main gripe is the driving range running next to #16. If you miss a little right you will be finding your ball amongst a slew of range balls. Bottom line, I played a twilight round for $20 with four other people and we were able to finish. Hard to beat that.
Course is good - but no bathrooms on course other than clubhouse. A little distracting from one's golf game!
The course was good. An older course, but greens were pretty good, people very nice. The problem for me was - no bathroom between 9's. Very uncomfortable (with coffee) with no provision for relief other than the bushes. Not great for women golfers in bright colored clothing! :)
