Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

Currently Best Muni in Austin
The title says it all. Greens rolling true. Fairways hard but its Texas.
Slow play
A tournament was going on on the sister course at Roy Kizer. This caused extreme slowplay on Jimmy Clay course. Toomany five dimes and ineffective Marshalling on the course
Solid Day on Kizer's little brother.
Played Clay for the first time in a while (usually play Kizer because I love how open it is). Course is in great shape (as most are this time of year), only complaint is the greens are pretty slow. I forgot the solid variety of holes out there, you need to work it both ways off the tee, definitely a first shot golf course. Overall, a really fun afternoon and good value for the $$.
Good for municipal course
Every thing good, no problems, some holes carts not allowed on fairway, makes it hard for older, handicapped golfers.
A lot of activity at the clubhouse & a little confusion teeing off due to witch way to go (2 courses). Pace of play was better than expected after getting started.Wide fairways. (with the exception of hole 3) Greens were a little slow. 10 hole is tough (could not see pin on approach shot)
Hope greens get better
The greens were just aerated I sure hope it brings the greens back to the quality they were last year.
Jimmy Clay March 2018
Jimmy is the best shape I have ever seen it I 25 years.
Nice but too packed .
I like this place but seems too packed and too slow .
Clay
Worth a play. Better than many private courses. Good layout and setup. Good greens. Played in mid February and was surprised to see fairways were a little green.
green
great greens, but fast and hard to play, at least for me.
Greens still looking good
I've been telling people that Clay has the best greens of the ATX munis since they redid them a couple years ago and I was pleased to see that after overseed they are still running really nicely. You could drop a lot of putts out there. That said, whoever set the pins on this Sat AM round was in a bad mood. Lots of tucked positions out there, which isn't ideal operations for a busy weekend. Even still, pace was a good clip and our four-ball got around in about 4 hours flat. It is definitely recommended to get out early AM like us if you want to play quickly before the fiveballs get out.
I was really impressed how busy the place was despite the fact it was a cold and wet Saturday morning. This facility does a lot right and local golfers are noticing. Great walking course, too.
Didn't get a chance to check out the new grill but it looks like it's open.
Greens of Jimmy Clay
The greens are the best of most Austin Public courses. Amazing for this time of year at how well they are( Relatively speaking for this time of year)
Value for your money
Once again this course was a terrific golf experience, considering it is a public course. Good value, friendly staff, leaves blown well, greens in very good shape for a public course, and design layout providing challenges for all levels of golfers. The Marshall kept play moving and finished under 4 hours. Not bad for a Friday am.
I agree!
