Jimmy Clay Golf Course

I play Clay often because I like the layout and the price is usually the best in town. You can walk or ride and I especially like the back nine. Conditions-wise, it's always a little more spotty than next door Roy Kizer, so if that's important to you, it might be best to pay a couple extra bucks and go there.

Challenging and fun to play. Pace was very good. What more do you want me to say?

Clay is in better shape than it was when I played it a few years ago but still needs work. As mentioned when I booked on Golfnow, the greens were in mediocre shape. Most of the greens had patches of dead grass from disease or other causes. The fairways and every other part of the course were in good shape otherwise. The layout is not too difficult and is a decent place for a beginner to learn how to play.

This course is a great value. The prices are hard to beat. The greens were in bad shape though. In general, the course is not as lush as other courses in Austin, but I look past that because the price is so low and the course is forgiving for a player that goes right a lot like me. I will definitely play again here.

I've grown up playing Jimmy Clay and have enjoyed the layout over the years. Still a fun track although we had a couple of temporary greens (looks like the regular greens will be back in commission soon). Overall: it's a pretty straightforward course with some interesting holes; has a lot more length than Lion's but less interesting than Morris Williams. The Jimmy Clay greens need help.
