Morris Williams Golf Course
About
The “Mo Willie,” Austin’s third municipal course, has some character: it served as the home of Harvey Penick’s legendary golf teams, two of which won NCAA Championships back when Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw graced the fairways. And it’s named after Morris Williams, Jr., one of the best golfers to ever come out of the city. Now Austin’s airport has moved south, and this difficult Leon Howard design is a bit more peaceful.
Howard’s layout requires all types of shots, and is known for its small, slightly elevated greens. The best hole on the front is the dogleg left, 540-yard No. 2, even though some would argue that the 187-yard No. 3 is one of Austin’s all-time best. It drops 50 feet from tee to green over a pond. The back side is highlighted by water holes 11-14, with both 11 and 12 requiring approaches over the wet stuff.
Getting there : From the Austin Airport, turn left on Manor Road and the clubhouse is 100 yards down the street. The entrance is on the right.

Slow
2 of the other local course were closed witch made it very busy
Dependable Muni
A good midwinter round on a good municipal layout. Of course the turf was brown, but greens were OK for time of year and tee boxes featured new markers, showing staff is paying attention.
Good value for the money
The course was in good shape considering the recent cold weather. Will definitely be back
Love the new clubhouse and amenities
It’s been awhile since I played Morris’s William, enjoyed the new clubhouse and the course layout. Good deal for the cost to play.
Great Value and Fun
Paired up with a good guy who just moved here. The announcer was mixed up. Called my name after I had hit the ball off of the first tee. Course was very wet from the heavy rains earlier so cart on path only. Which slowed us up a bit. So a little crowded. Two Memes hit two balls into us because they could not figure out we were down the hill and maybe we were there? The greens were a little bumpy because they were so wet, ball marks all over. Great price and worth it.
good Value but greens effcted by frost
Love the value and layout of the course. We had a recent frost which effected the greens. Cannot blame the staff for this but the greens were deficient of turf which took the breaks away and effected speed a great deal. Hopefully a week of sun and normal December rain will help.
Nice variety of holes
Had a nice day to play so couldn't pass it up. Course was in pretty good shape. Greens were rolling true and good spped. I can see improvements being made at the course whenever I plsy it.
Cluster****
I’ve played there 50+ times and know what to anticipate as far as pace of play. But by the time we got to 6 green there were 3 groups on 7. 1 on green, 1 in fairway, 1 on tee. It’s just deflating to run into this on a get out of town holiday weekend. So we finished the front & left. Doesn’t mean we won’t be back but come one guys....hit the effing ball & if you can’t find your old Rock Flite drop one & hit it again. You aren’t that good.........
Texas Winter Golf
Overall the course is in good shape. The fall weather has impacted the course and is beginning to turn brown. The fairways are still soft, but are beginning to get hard. The greens were a bit bumpy but overall they were okay. We paid $25 for a Sunday so it was a good price for the course.
Slllloooowwwwww.....
Teed off 10 mins late because nobody was pushing the several groups in front of us to get off the box on time. At the 4:20 mark, we were on hole 15. Slow rounds happen (especially on munis), but when you can see entire holes with nobody on them, it's time to ask people to pick up their speed.
Great Golf Course
Mo Willie is in good shape overall. There are a few greens that need a little work, however, it’s a great course and fun to play.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
I recommend this course.
Hill country feel in city
The more I play this course the more I like it. Challenging elevation on most of course. Yesterday the greens weren’t the best I’ve seen but very playable. Walked it a couple of times but the hilly nature makes it tough.
