Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Legends Course
About
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon offers two 18-hole championship courses, the Legends and the Champions. Nestled in the foothills of the San Gorgoncio and San Jacinto Mountains, both courses have a scenic landscape that offers stunning views. The Legends Course is the newer of the two but it provides just as challenging a game as the Champions, which is a PGA Tour favorite. The Legends twists and turns through the winding elevations, demanding accuracy throughout. Like its sister golf course, there are numerous steep-lipped bunkers treacherously placed along the greensides. The rough is also tall, thick, and unforgiving. The tricky par-3 fourth hole is played from the highest point on the property. From the tee, the canyon seems more intimidating but the wildly sloped green is where the challenge begins.

Pretty Fun course
Nice facility, friendly & helpful staff, great pro-shop, Course (Legends course) was fun, albeit a bit repetitive at times! I played from the "Black Tees" approx. 6800 yds. Fairly challenging (quite a few very long par 4's) Helps to play with someone who knows the layout! Tees were good, fairways were pretty bad in some of the common target areas, bunkers were good and lots of them! GREENS were awesome, consistent and semi fast! Some of the best greens I've played in years! Cart girls were not around enough! FYI #1 This course does not return to clubhouse at the turn and the 10th tee "Halfway House" is closed often)...!! FYI #2 STAY ON THE FAIRWAY!! The rough is very thick in many areas! Lost balls and wrist injurys are waiting in the rough! Compliments to the "Marshals / Starter" Very Helpful!! =) FYI #3 Good tap beer selection!
Now that I've played it, knowing where to hit the ball will help maybe 3 shots a side! Looking forward to returning SOON!
Awesome Course
Morongo Legends course is absolutely amazing. No houses on the entire layout...but trust me, you can still hit plenty of hazards and OBs! Great layout! If your handicap is single digits play from black tees. Love the clubhouse and GPS on golf cart is always a plus!
Great Course
Great course, great greens and fairways. Challenging layout but overall great experience.....
Good course and value
For the price of excellent course. Very difficult and requires lots of golf course management. Course conditions could have been better and I'm sure they are in peak season.
Hill and Dale
This course never fails always in great shape and fun to play. The staff very professional and welcoming. I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to have a great experience but then the course would become over crowded. Go play the Legends.
Rough way too rough
Played the legends and, while the course is great, the rough was ridiculous. If you hit your ball in the rough, don't expect to find it! There are a couple of spots where ground maintenance is taking place, but other than that and the rough, I love this course.
Great course
I've played this course before and it's always great!!! Greens great!!! Fairway great!!!
Challenging course
A strategically designed course that pressures you into thinking and making good creative shots. As I found out the hard way, stay on the fairways or pay the price of extra strokes.
The rough is tough going and the bunkers are also deep and not a piece of cake.
Did not fare well the first time here and learnt from my mistakes. Looking forward to playing here a next time and will carefully select my clubs and my shots each and every hole.
It could be great if they did upkeep on it
Its a great course but they dont do any upkeep on it the putting greens were terrible all divited up the ruff was impossible to hit out of and thats if you could even find your ball in the first place i ended up not even finishing the rest of the holes the condition of the course was terrible and i would never go back or recommend this course to anyone its a waste of money!!! If they actually took care of the condition of the course then i would go back and recommend it but not until then... They are lucky i didnt demand a refund
Rough Too High
This is a great course, but the rough was over 4 inches and that was in front of tee boxes and on both sides of fairway and around almost every green????? Which meant a poor tee shot left, right or short you were looking for your ball....and approach shots short or long of the green was also lost in the ruff around greens. Course was way to hard for anyone over say a 12 handicap..a 15 became a 20 here. To save time we all in our 4 some just gave up our balls and dropped at least twice during round for each of us....had we used the 5 minute lost ball rule we would have been easily 45 minutes longer then suggested time for our round....cut the rough back or let public know you only want players with 12 or lower handicaps to play there...... if rough stays like it is be prepared to wait on EVERY TEE BOX while group in front looks for balls even 6 inches off fairways and within 5 or 6 yards of some greens????
If you arent a great golfer...
If you don't hit true every time, bring an extra sleeve of balls! It was a great course...more difficult than the norm for this mediocre golfer. We played the Champions and the fairways are narrow compared to many courses, with a lot of beautiful, but ball stealing out of bounds areas. I can’t wait to play there again...it's a challenge!
love his course for layout, difficulty, design, great condition and awesome value for the money
Have played both legends and Champions quite a few times this season and the last 5 seasons as well when we come down to palm Desert for the winter.
Greens and fairways are in great shape. The rough on the last game on the 17th was a bit long and we had problems finding the errant bounced shots. Lost a few balls between the 4 of us. Normally, the rough was not so long as to hide the balls. The weather was so nice @ 77 degrees with a nice breeze. The course won the game this time but we gave it a real test. Had a fantastic time. Greens were very challenging. Great golf course. We'll be back!
Good Course with "tuff-ruff" and challenging greens
Played the "Legends", good course layout, generally in good condition however, during this round of play the course tee boxes were over grown and the the rough was out of control, 8-10 inches in many areas.Green were super-fast. There are also a numbers of deteriorating cart path areas throughout the course and washed out path bridges in need of repair. The GPS on the carts is a bit frustrating if you get off the designed allowed areas...cart just stops. Requires cart backup until you're back in as approved area...this slows down play.
Love it
Enjoyed playing on this course . Love the green and the challenges the bunker create.
Good open layout
Pretty wide out fairway sometimes a little chop greens ok had a problem with wrong seeding of the rough was thick.
Hurry up and wait...
Hurry up and wait seems to be par for the course (pun intended) just about everywhere we play anymore. The pace of play is frustrating. Every hole required us to wait while we watched people on the green and people teeing off. Perhaps golf courses are booking too many people to attempt to make a profit? I'm not sure, but this seems to be the status quo at most of our courses in the Inland Empire of California. Otherwise, we had a good day. Bring a lot of balls if you don't hit straight. You do not want to go out of bounds to find a ball, as some of the local vegetation is dangerous to touch if you want to avoid a fast acting rash on your skin. It's pretty wild, but beautiful.
water shortage?
Played this course for the first time since last year and it was in terrible condition. Did this have anything to do with the water shortage? Who knows? Always loved this course but I would not play there again unless conditions improve! The first cut of rough was at least 6 inches deep!! You could be standing next to a snake and never see it! This was the "Legends" course that we played so I:m not sure if the"
"Champions" course was any better.
Good day on the legends
Excellent golf course, but the frustrating issue is the length of the rough. I don't need PGA standards with the length of the rough. This course would easily have a 5 star rating if they reduce the rough.
Windy and Tough
Course is in good condition but we played on a windy day and the wind made the temperature a lot cooler and the course extremely challenging. Wind is very common at the course.
Enjoyed the challenge
We enjoyed the total experience at the Morongo (Legends) golf course. It was worth the drive from Palm Springs. It was our first time golfing at Morongo and we appreciated the GPS on the cart. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition and there was lots of space so that wayward drives could be found and played. We were a twosome and even though the pace of play was good , two groups called us to play through so no-one was in front of us. Greens were firm and undulating and their pace was consistent. Tee boxes had seen lots of traffic. The course is quite playable for mid to high handicaps if you play from the right tee.
