Course is Improving
Good Day. I have been playing Arrowhead for probably five years. Playing pre-Covid the course was in rough shape. Slow fuzzy greens and poor fairways. Just about a year before the world collapsed upon itself, some money and care were being put into the course and the fairways were starting to show some promise. Then the 400 days to flatten the curve hit and the course upkeep went in the toilet.
The course is under new ownership now...from what I have heard. The greens are now a different type of grass, and they are rolling smoother and quicker. The bunkers are still an inconsistent mess of heavy coarse sand/dirt with varying depths from bunker to bunker. The fairways are back to being poor. The area around the green where most amateurs miss and need some decent lies is also poor.
The price of $59.00 on a Saturday is fair but I cannot imagine the price remaining at that level if the course conditions improve. I can see this course making a comeback in the next two to three years. The pace of play is decent yet there is no starter or on course Marshall to assist with that.
Concessions...a 12 oz. can of domestic beer was previously $2.50 on this course and now it is $6.00. That's quite the hike. The concession/restroom just off tee box number #9 that I have never seen open for business is being remodeled and so that's good. The restrooms need some updating for certain so hopefully that will be accomplished with the remodel.
Fair course with an early 20th century layout and distances. Par threes are lengthy and typically well protected by the inconsistent bunkers. Short par fives and tight-ish fairways on the par fours. I have already made another tee time to play Arrowhead.
6 sum?
A group behind us skipped and merged with group front of us played with 6 people took waste time every tees. No marshal, do not care!!
Disappointing Customer Service
My husband and I drove over an hour one way to play this course. While the layout of the course itself was nice, and I was happy to get a last minute tee time that would allow us to finish 18 holes (assuming 4-1/2 hour round with wait), finishing before dark was in jeopardy from our first tee shot. The course was backed up more than I have ever experienced in 20+ years of golf, with an extensive wait on each hole. It didn't help that the club let a group of five, mostly inexperienced golfers (3 of them hitting from the blue, which was painful to watch) go out. When I called the clubhouse on the 3rd hole to see if we could get a raincheck for another day, I was told that bc I booked through GolfNow, they would be unable to give me a raincheck. That is ridiculous! Shawn, a manager, said there was nothing he could do about a raincheck since it is the course's policy to not give rainchecks if the booking is through GolfNow. I wouldn't have even thought about the course if not for GolfNow so it is ironic that they seemingly want to penalize those who book through a website that routes business their way. Shawn, and the woman who answered the phone who referred me to Shawn, both said it was so busy because there was a tournament that morning. By their tone, they seemed to think I should be more understanding of the situation knowing there was a tournament that morning. No, I'm not more understanding or empathetic to the situation. So, they get the tournament money from the tournament players, and then take advantage of the poor suckers who have the misfortune of not being psychic enough to know that there would be an incredible back up on the course for the rest of the afternoon. Wow. Fortunately, the group immediately ahead of us decided to play the front nine again, which left us to witness the atrocities of the group of 5 playing the back nine. A Marshall did come along and said something to the group that eventually sped them up.
Thank you. And, fortunately, we were able to finish right as it got dark. While I like the course itself, despite the winter conditions, the experience with the course management, including the rather chilly reception at check in (I left that part out earlier), leaves much to be desired. I'm not sure I could recommend the course to someone else, without some pretty serious warnings first.
Windy but fun!
Very windy during the round but an awesome course. Only complaint was that the Cafe/Restaurant/ Bar didn’t open until 10a.
Greens were very quick, a lot of greens above the fairway but no tricks or surprises. Fun course
Sierra Lakes
The course was in great shape. Just wish the winds were not blowing 25-30 mph. Made play a lot tougher than normal. This was certainly not the course’s issue, but it was still a challenging day.
Horrible experience
The golf course fairway was a little narrow
but the overall condition was not bad .
However, I have had an horrible and scary experience here while playing golf. When I was playing on my last hole, players front of us was finished playing, but their cart was stand right next to the green, we were waiting them to move the cart but they continue to stand on next to green.
It's getting dark and we want to finish as soon as possible, and we asked them to move the cart a little, in case we hit a person in the front team. But suddenly the person in the front team cursed at us. He threw away our golf ball far away and came front of our face, he keep saying he is a street guy he has gun in the car and will shoot us all. We said we were just asking you to move the cart because you might get hurt. And then we tried to move away but the guy chasing us behind and keep threatening us and said kill us. In the end, we called the police and nothing happened, but I will not play golf anymore in this area.
Course was in January shape.
Worth $80 for a weekend. Nice place. They did a great job with greens for January. Great shape. That is where is stops. Fairways were cow pastures , I’m sure I’m spring and summer it’s much different. It’s a very slopey course , driving 300 down the middle of the fairway can result in finding your ball down a ditch and in a bunker 90 degrees to the right. That’s poor design. Down the middle should be protected. But all in all the pace was good.
Who's playing this course
Don't know what the clientele is these days, but come on people, fix a divot, rake a trap. On each green, I repaired at least five divots just to minimize the dozens of divots per green. And the traps, rakes are there, but apparently no one knows how to use one. Common golf etiquette. Fix your divots. Rake the trap. If you don't feel like doing that, then take up bowling.
Disappointing Experience
Second time playing course. Weather conditions were extremely windy. Course made no offer to refund our $ nor offered any discount due to the weather conditions. Also, every green has several ball marks. Not so sure I would play this course again.
Windy round in Sierra Lakes
Many cancellations due to the wind which made pace of play great. Some fairways need some repairing though. I hope they take care of them cuz this is such a great course.
