The Question is When?
The City needs to put the for sale sign out because they are not spending enough money to keep this a golf course. Have played here for 20 years and have watched the last 3 years as the playing conditions have become so poor I would call it an 18 hole driving range now. For years this had great greens and so so fairways, still has some so so fairways but at least 7 greens are un playable. You would think they would close off a few greens for a while and repair them, but they are all open and just dyeing.
Getting better
The greens are getting better by the week
Man ):
Man I really hope they fix this course ASAP, And the greenskeeper starts taking their job more serious . This is my home course and I don’t even want to play here anymore it’s just so sad to see a great golf course crumble down . Management let’s get this place back up man
What happened to Shandin hills?
What was once a great value, good course conditions, nice day of golf is turning into one of the most run down courses I’ve played at. The worst part of the course is the greens, and that’s saying a lot because nothing else is much better. I’m sad to see my local course trending downwards. The only thing that’s gone up is the price.
I’m hoping things turn around. We don’t need more of the current approach, we need a totally new plan with new vision for this course.
What has happened to this course?
Tee boxes were rough but can accept that. Fairways are rough and can accept that. However, the greens were thick like fairways with weeds! It was a miserable experience where the only positive was pace of play, 1.5 for the front playing with 2 others and 1 hour for the back.
If I had paid the rack rate, I would’ve been upset. Even getting a heavily discounted rate, it was barely acceptable.
Save your money and go someplace else, anywhere else, except Arrowhead CC. Two of the worst condition courses I have ever experienced.
Lost the Love
The course used to be well maintained. But there apparently has been a total loss of care and love. Everything without exception needs care. Fairways seldom yield a good lie. You can walk into bunkers and not leave a track. Hard and compacted sand. And now the once beautiful greens that rolled true have been taken over by cab grass. The green fees do not reflect the conditions. It's a lost chance for good and fair golf. The recovery is going to be slow and expensive
Beware of the greens!
I'll cut to the chase. The greens were horrible! I landed on one green but it looked more like the surface of a distant planet. Another green had strange patches of different grass growing from it. It was like playing snooker. They should drop the price with greens like that. Not worth the $70 I paid.
Horrible conditions
I’ve played Shandin Hills many times, and for the price it’s a fun place to play. This was by far the worst place I have ever played, due to maintenance conditions. The rough was so bad and the fairways were not much better. I sincerely hope that it was an anomaly due to ??? As I stated, I’ve played here before and that’s why I booked yesterday. But I won’t be going back again unless it gets back to where it was before. It would have been nice to know course conditions prior to booking.
Some tee boxes were brown grass dry. Many greens were sandy with damaged areas. The pace of play was very slow with no sign of Marshall’s to speed up the pace. Trains going past are a regular event as is the roar of freeway traffic alongside the course. Many areas were very dry while others were sopping wet. I played on Labor Day weekend so the pace of play can be excused but not the other conditions.
C’mon guys!
I used to tell people to play this course because even though the fairways and bunkers have always lacked any redeeming qualities, the greens were always legit. There were so many weed patches throughout the greens! Little tufts of crab-grass like sprouts randomly in the greens made it very distressing to even try and roll one in. I understand the cost to play in this area has risen no matter what course you play but how consistently busy this place is, it would allow funds to invest into the quality of the greens. Just constantly disappointed. Obviously I’m biased because of past play (I’m talking 8+ years ago) when I enjoyed the challenge of this course to now just be scratching my head trying to justify the money/time spent.
