great challenge and value for the $
if you get out on the shadow you can expect a very challenging round, This course can be quite frustrating as well as rewarding. i wish i would of played it yrs ago when it was in better shape.
Poor Shape
The fairways are very dry and in very poor shape. Bunkers are more like dirt than sand. I actually had to pull a weed on the green collar to putt towards the hole. I would not play this course again
there are bare ground in few fairways
Overall course is great and I would recommend this course to my friend.
Greens and fairways need a little attention. Canyons make for many blind shots. I had fun playing this course for the first time due to the challeng
Good value and fun to play. blind shots and slopes from the canyons make it challenging. short holes, use the 3 wood, except into the stiff wind.
Lost Canyons Simi Valley
Shadow course, not for the feint hearted
Be prepared to lose ALOT of balls, but great views make up for all the mis hit shots!
Very difficult and somewhat expensive
First off, the staff is very friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to make you feel like a guest. The course itself is in fair to poor condition. The fairways need a lot of attention in the form over-seeding and a clear outline of rough and short grass. The greens were in pretty good shape but the bunkers have no sand and are like concrete. Hitting a ball into a bunker should just constitute ground under repair and take a drop.
Playing the course is extremely challenging due to the fact you have to hit blind shots often. I was playing by myself and had no idea where the fairway or green was on several holes, luckily I caught up with a twosome and they were able to help out. I don't know about you but I hate playing blind shots, I am not a pro and like to be able to follow the shot so I can locate my ball. I hit one ball right down the middle but couldn't see where it stopped, never found it. That is the worst, losing a ball you hit right down the middle due to the fairway being in bad shape so it bounces and rolls every which way. Add the fact you cant follow it with your eyes and you are gonna lose a lot of golf balls.
To sum it up, it is a very scenic course with an extremely friendly staff. They need to get the fairways and bunkers into much better shape. Do not play this course unless you have someone with you who has played it before, you will not know where to hit it.
a great value
The course was in need of repair and water, but what can you expect with the windy, dry conditions in Southern California.
Where can you play a slope rating of 144 - 6600 yards for $35 and finish in under 3 hours. What a great value. I'd do it again anytime.
The course has great features
The shadow course was not maintained at all. It appears that the maintainence crew are giving all of their attention to the Sky course only. The course had weeds and patches on the tee boxe and in the fairways and the greens were bumpy. The shadow would also be great if or when the manicure it.
Horrible Condition
I can't believe how bad this course has gotten! Lost Canyons should pay you to play it! They really let this course go! The tee boxes had 10-12 inch weeds growing on them. On some of the fairways it looked like someone's bad hair plugs. Seriously, they should just close it down if they're not going to maintain it!
This Course is the worst I've ever seen in 40 years of golf
The course hasn't seen watering in years, weeds on every tee box instead of and grass. Sand traps are just gravel or hard rock. Greens in good shape because no one can hit them from the dumb design of this place.... I want my $ back... WILL NEVER RETRN even if paid to play would say NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Challenging greens
Great challenging course, however fairways have almost no grass and sand traps are like cement
Course Is Bone Dry
I played the Shadow course today and it was horrible. The course is extremely difficult for a bogey golfer like myself. It looks as if they haven't watered the course in a very long time. It was extremely dry. Balls that were hit in the dead center of the fairway landed on dirt patches. Are you kidding me? I saw more dirt than grass on many fairways. Even if you hit good shots the dirt patches frequently kick your balls out of bounds. Your shots run for ever because there isn't any grass slowing them down. Even though I paid $160 for my foursome ($40 per person), I still feel as if I overpaid. I will never play this course again.
Wish I could have got my money back
The course was in unplayable condition due to lack of water and care. I whish I could have got my money back or were told that the course was in that poor of condition. They stated at check in that it was being made into a links style course
Terrible fairway conditions..
Tough course, has potential to be a fun, but those fairways are in such terrible condition that it made the round pretty terrible!! I guess it was okay for the money, but only because we didnt pay much. I probably wouldnt play here again.
Watch out for the wind
For a first time player on this course, it was very difficult with the blind shots and the high winds. Greens were good, fairways looked un-attended and there was little or no sand in the traps.
Nice course in bad condition
This is a great course but is in horrible condition. Fairway grass isn't even grass. It's like hitting off dirt. Greens are in good shape, pace of play is good. They now charge $2 more for GPS in the cart!!?? Really? After paying $50 for a round a golf it should come with GPS.
Worst maintained course I have ever played.
The staff is nice and this course is beautiful. Decently challenging. Lots of hills and course design is enjoyable. It's really too bad that the course is not maintained. Maybe it is because it is winter, but the grass is all dead and the dirt is so dry that it looks like a desert. There are parts of the fairway so dry that you might as well play on cement. As for the greens, I have never seen greens so fast. This is not because they were made that way, but that they are so dry that the grass was dead. The dirt so hard that if you chipped a ball on, it would no divot but instead just bounce off the green.
Beautiful course design, terrible execution.
This course has great views.
This course has great views. But the fairways were a little too hard and the sand on the bunkers was hardened. Otherwise the course was very good.
Course being let go on fairways. Say developing links style. Little or no grass even with recent rains. Greens playable.
While I got a great deal on green and cart fees they hammered me on extra fees. $40.00 club rental for clubs that would not sell for that at a yard sale. $10.00 per sleeve for Bridgestone 6 ball. $25 cart fee for wife to ride along. Ended up with $91 for additional fees. Hard to feel welcome.
Best course to practice your fairway hits and GIR
High rewards on few holes if you take risk. You have to be able to hit the fairway from tee or you're in big trouble. Always windy too
