Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Little On-Course Management
We have had the same problem the last three times that we've played Avery Ranch. The marshals don't seem to make their rounds very often and players get stacked up behind a slow group. We had 4 groups on the same Par 3 last time I played. We had to call to the pro-shop for the marshal but never saw him/her. The course condition is awesome. It's always a great, but challenging, course to play. The staff is really friendly though. I just wish that there was more effort in on-course management.
First impressions
Great hill country layout. Staff, starter & everyone that worked there was great. Had tee time at 8am, got dropped off at 6:20 & the level off service never dropped. Awesome!! Only knock was a couple of wet traps & 18th tee; this course is a must play for the area! Tough but still fair IMO. I'm a long ball hitter but playing with a local, whom the starter paired me with, helped with being conservative when I needed to. Don't pass on lunch, the food is excellent. You IPA fans will enjoy as well.
Cool Course, Disappointing Experience
The course is challenging, even without the 20mph gusts I played in. Pace of play was slow (4.5 hrs) and there are no ball washers on the course. Zero. Also at zero was the number of beverage carts despite being a 72 degree Saturday afternoon. Interesting that the website boasts "Best Cart Girls". Clearly staffing is an issue as I also learned the bartender was working 7am - 8pm by herself, and both the starter and pro shop also thought there was a beverage cart on the course.
The course is creative and in pretty good shape except for 3-4 tee boxes that were full of divots and sand. I am playing again in a few days to give it another shot. Not the greatest experience for Saturday golf, but I give the entire experience a 3 out of 5.
The staff was very friendly and informative. The driving range was in terrible condition. The range balls were old and worn and the mats were just as bad.The course was as I remembered, a very nice layout. The pace of play sucked, just under 5 hours. All in all I would play again but at a different time.. thanks
Great lay out
I had a great time at Avery Ranch golf club. I love the lay out of the course starting on hole number 10 . My only complaint and crap and bumper they could use a lot of help.
This course has a very tough front nine
I like this course a lot except for the bunkers
The front nine has some tough holes that demand some great shots. A couple tough par 3’s and 4’s
The bunkers on this course are extremely poor. Some have no sand like hitting off clay
Slow...
Course was good to very good. The pace of play was brutal. Greens were thin in spots.
Nice course
Good course challenging holes friendly staff would play here next time in the area.
Thank you so much for the great feedback! Hope to see you back soon!
Horrible experiance
Course was a mess, bought a GolfNow hotdeal...didn't want to play in such a mess but Avery staff made sure they told Golfnow that the course was open for play. Wow to save $50.00!
Thank you for your feedback. Can you please give us more information as to why the course was such a mess? We would like to correct any issues we are having.
Very good value
Cold day when we played, but a very enjoyable course. Winter conditions, tee boxes and greens are good fairways are brown but that is to be expected. Very good price with Golf Now. I will be back!
Thank you for braving the cold and coming to see us at Avery! Hope to have you back the next time you are in the area!
Great Day
Fantastic weather, great group, awesome course. Can’t say much more
Avery Ranch
We snagged a Hot Deal for 2 on golf now. When we showed up they had paired us and the twosome in front of us with beginners. We played the black tees and this made the round extremely slow and irratic. Tee time was 1:30 and we played the last 2 holes in the dark.. Not the best experience.
