Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Poor Customer Service
I booked a Monday morning tee time (July 9, 2018) directly through the Pro Shop. That morning, I was only able to play 1 hole, before heavy rain forced us off the course.
1 hole.
When I went in to ask for a refund due to the rain, instead of refunding me for the full amount I paid (less than 30 minutes prior mind you), OR instead of pro-rating the $40 I paid and only charging me for the one hole I actually played, I was only given a refund for a $33 twilight rate. How is this appropriate? How is this acceptable customer service?
It's not.
There are too many other good courses in town to have to deal with this lack of guest appreciation. It will be a while before I come back.
Great course
This course is always in top shape. Just informed that they bought Falcon Head. This is a great course and would highly recommend it.
Greatly maintenace course & Great staff
Nice challenging track from the golds will get to touch all fascent of your game from great back to back par 5’s tomlong par 3’s always a great time. Oh yea large bucket of balls is 12 bucks for 125 balls get the medium lol
Bad scheduling
Played on a Sunday (11:33am tee time) and 4 holes later and 1hr and 25minutes later, and after being hit up on twice...: we decided to get our money back. Apparently some tourne with a shotgun start was going on! Staff gladly refunded us but I was really looking frwd to playing 18
Good Time
Nice course. Challenging. best to play with someone who knows the ins and outs. I would just as well play the cheaper muni's in town than pay their full price, but the Hot Deal is affordable and i play a lot, so over $40 is too much twice a week. Basiucally I'm saying its got nice facilities and service, but its nothing special. Good though.
Really enjoyed Avery, will be back
Greens were in great shape and it’s a cool layout. A little slow on a Sat afternoon but that’s to be expected. Will definitely keep Avery in my rota
Great course for the price
Greens are always true. This is the best course for the money in Austin. The staff is always friendly and the course is challenging.
Good course
Course was in good shape. Greens were soft and medium fast but had some bad spots around the fringe. Fairways were nice. Staff was friendly. Cost was average. Rate of play was a little slow.
Very Good
I played Avery for the first time in years today and it was in great shape and a I booked online for a great rate of $33. Course is in great shape, tee boxes, fairways, greens everything was great. Only hiccup was when I got to the back nine maybe number 13 really started to backup. I mean REALLY backed up and no marshal to pick it up. So bad I quit after 15. But I would recommend and play again.
Great Austin Track!
Great course. Challenging, yet playable!
I was fortunate enough to be paired with someone who knew the course. There were a couple tricky holes that the Driver was better left in the bag.
Great staff. I’ll be back.
Bad bunkers
Course in good shape but bunkers need some serious attention.
They are consistently not good and the only thing below par on this course. Get rid of the dirt and put some real sand in them.
Little On-Course Management
We have had the same problem the last three times that we've played Avery Ranch. The marshals don't seem to make their rounds very often and players get stacked up behind a slow group. We had 4 groups on the same Par 3 last time I played. We had to call to the pro-shop for the marshal but never saw him/her. The course condition is awesome. It's always a great, but challenging, course to play. The staff is really friendly though. I just wish that there was more effort in on-course management.
First impressions
Great hill country layout. Staff, starter & everyone that worked there was great. Had tee time at 8am, got dropped off at 6:20 & the level off service never dropped. Awesome!! Only knock was a couple of wet traps & 18th tee; this course is a must play for the area! Tough but still fair IMO. I'm a long ball hitter but playing with a local, whom the starter paired me with, helped with being conservative when I needed to. Don't pass on lunch, the food is excellent. You IPA fans will enjoy as well.
Cool Course, Disappointing Experience
The course is challenging, even without the 20mph gusts I played in. Pace of play was slow (4.5 hrs) and there are no ball washers on the course. Zero. Also at zero was the number of beverage carts despite being a 72 degree Saturday afternoon. Interesting that the website boasts "Best Cart Girls". Clearly staffing is an issue as I also learned the bartender was working 7am - 8pm by herself, and both the starter and pro shop also thought there was a beverage cart on the course.
The course is creative and in pretty good shape except for 3-4 tee boxes that were full of divots and sand. I am playing again in a few days to give it another shot. Not the greatest experience for Saturday golf, but I give the entire experience a 3 out of 5.
