Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Terrible at Avery Ranch
Range balls are terrible- old and cut up
Range itself is terrible - muddy with very little grass
Staff is barely courteous
We waited 30 minutes for a golf cart as they didn't have enough and had overbooked tee times
One worker said "This isn't my job" regarding golf carts
Some greens already burned up and not even hot yet.
Pace of Play is a joke and always has been - Avery Ranch "Home of the 5 hour round of golf" and on 06/10/2017 it was 5 hours and 10 minutes. Ridiculous! Never play there again!!
Excellent conditions in the heat of summer
This round was a great value, and is now vying for my favorite daily fee course in Austin. We played in the heat of the summer here in Texas, and the course conditions were immaculate, well as immaculate as they generally can be here in Austin. The greens or well-kept, the fairways were extremely playable and green, and even the roughs were in excellent condition, well-maintained. It was Friday afternoon, and we saw the cart lady five different times, which is great when you need an extra drink in this heat. Reminded me of being at a private club. Will definitely be going back.
Thank you so much for all of the wonderful feedback! We are so happy to see that you enjoyed your time out on the course! We know if can definitely be hot, so we're glad our cart girls were able to help you out! We look forward to having you back out on the course!
No Rainchecks with GolfNot Hot Deals
My friend and I got a hot deal from GolfNow. Unfortunately the weather turned on us and started raining (with thunder & lightening) after the 8th hole. We decided to take a rain check and when we chatted with the service clerk he informed us rain checks cannot be granted to online purchases like hot deal offers. We we're both disappointed and decided to sit out the rain cell (30 minutes). We were soaked by the time we finished playing 18 holes and I was left with a disappointed feeling from the entire experience. We weren't interested in a refund but just an opportunity to play 9 holes another time.
As the for the greens, the grass was in good shape, there were some odd looking half-finished construction areas/"garbage" or unsightly corners, and the signature hole (#5?) was unimpressive as toted.
As for the service, the staff and service were excellent (minus the hot deals/online purchase rule they have).
Hi!
We apologize for the mix up with the rain check. We are always offering great specials when you book a tee time through our website, so next time make sure to check that out! We hope you will be back to play at Avery Ranch soon!
Great topo
Very interesting layout. Lots of different shots required. One of the best daily fee courses in Austin.
Hi Neal,
Thank you so much for the 5 Stars! We appreciate the great feedback and hope to see you back out on the greens soon!
Avery on Memorial Day
I thought the course was in great shape for all the rain we have had. Thought we were going to be cart paths only, but was pleasantly surprised for 90 degree rule. And even though a holiday, we finished in just over 4 hours. Front desk, cart and bartender and starter were all friendly and courteous.
Had a wonderful day.
Beautiful course
It was a lovely spring day at Avery Ranch. It wasn't crowded and we finished 18 in just over 4 hours. Course has some tough holes but it's overall fun
Slower than expected
Played this course for the first time. The course was in great shape after the rains but there wasn't a Marshall so we were held up by a couple 4 somes so that eventually let me play through on the back 9.
Great day for golf
The course has a challenging front nine with back open for some good scoring. Our day had perfect weather with course in excellent shape. The staff was great from the time we walk in. The range staff was excellent and the course cart girl was wonderful.
We truly appreciate the 5 Stars! So glad you were able to get such great weather, especially after the rain we had been receiving! Our staff works hard to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time out at the course, so thank you for the wonderful compliments! We hope you will be back to see us soon!
Nice course conditions, interesting layout
Even though we had a ton of rain over the past several days, the course was in very good condition. The only drawbacks were the bunkers, which were not groomed after the storms. For a Sunday afternoon, I was surprised to find there weren't any marshals or player assistants on the course, although there was a beverage cart. Pace of play seemed a bit slow on the front nine, but this is somewhat expected due to the difficult holes on that side. We finished in 4:15, which is better than the suggested pace of 4:30 for this course.
Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on your experience at Avery Ranch! We are glad to see that overall you had a good time during your round! We apologize for the conditions of the bunkers!
Great Shape
We played after heavy rains and the fairways dried out well and the greens were receptive & soft. Fair layout with tougher holes and easier holes and a good value for the Austin market.
Thank you for the great review and for coming out to play at Avery Ranch! Glad the rain did not ruin your round, and you were still able to enjoy the course!
Very Nice! Course! Staff! Food!
We had a great round! The course is in great shape. All the staff were awesome! The club sandwich at the turn was amazing! We drove an hour and 15 minutes to get to the course and would do it again! It's a great course at a great price! Thank you Golf Now for finding this course for us!
Thank you for making the long drive out to Avery Ranch! We are so excited to see that you enjoyed everything, including the food! We are always offering great deals on tee times, so make sure to join our email list!! We hope to have you back out on the greens soon!
It's just too slow... always...
The course conditions are fine. Greens are a bit chewed up. Some people don't mind 5-5.5 hour rounds. I can't handle. I understand running into time issues on Friday's and weekends. I'm not sure if it's a function of age of membership or ability level or over-booking.
Two things are unacceptable in my opinion...
-No marshall on the entire course checking on pace of play.
-Mentioned to front desk (not management level employee) that pace was five hours plus with no marshall and it's a really good opportunity for someone to offer an explanation. Dead silence from the desk.
The business end is run like a well-oiled machine. Clearly the tee sheets are full. Please focus on pace of play and golfer experience so that you can retain golfers rather than pump and dump them. Clearly from the reviews, this is an issue. Throw a guy in a cart and urge quick play.
Hi Aaron,
We understand your frustration with the slow pace of play. We want your time spent at Avery Ranch to be enjoyable, so we apologize that your round moved slower than expected. The golf club always has a marshall out on the course, so we are surprised to hear that you did not see a marshall once when playing. Please let us know if there is anything at all we can do to make this up to you!
SLOW and expensive.
I'm not sure what is happening but this used to be a nice premium course here in Austin. Tee boxes were chewed up quite a it, not much sand in the traps and greens looked to be struggling. I also have a hard time paying in excess of $80 for the pace of play and condition it is in. Disappointing and I hope it doesn't go down hill from here.
We would like to thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for coming out to play at Avery Ranch. We are always looking for ways to improve so we appreciate your feedback on the condition of the course and the slow pace of play. We apologize for your experience out on the course and hope in the future you will give us another shot.
This is the 3rd time I've played this course in the last month. Each round has taken at least 5 hours and 15 minutes and yesterday's round took 5 hours and 45 minutes. In each of the rounds, the first tee box was stacked with multiple groups and we teed of late each round. I didn't see a marshall enforcing pace of play during any of the rounds and saw multiple groups with 5 and 6 players. Pace of play appears to be a common complaint here based on recent reviews and I won't be back until it is resolved. In terms of course conditions, the fairways are hardpan despite a recent aerification, the greens are infested with poa annua, the sand in the bunkers is hard as concrete, and several tee boxes have very little grass.
We would like to apologize for the slow pace of play you have experienced while out at Avery Ranch. There is no excuse for this and we would like to make it up to you! Please email lyzet.aguilar@averyranch.com!
Nice course
Very nice layout, greatl course condition. Very slow play over 5 hrs.
Hi Jesus,
Thank you so much for the 5 Stars and for coming out to play at Avery Ranch! We do want to apologize for the slow pace of play you experienced while out on the course, but we hope you will come back and see us in the future!
Great Course, Great Staff, Great Price
This is a well kept secret in Round Rock, Texas; tucked away in several neighborhoods. The course is kept up extremely well and plays challenging yet doable. Definitely playable for golfers of all levels. Don't be fooled by its several wide fairways. The course is sneaky enough to get even the most seasoned golfers to second guess club choice from time-to-time.
Staff is friendly, engaging, and willing to help. My first attempt at playing the course was rained out and they gladly reimbursed me for my green fees and encouraged me to come back out.
I will definitely be back!
Thank you so much for all of the great feedback! We are very glad to see that you had such a great experience out on the course and enjoyed your round. We look forward to having you back at Avery Ranch soon!
Why I quit both courses they own have horrible pace of play. The owners could care less about you golf experience. I live around the corner from Avery . As hot as it was Sunday I drove to cowan creek 14 miles away to hit balls. That should tell you the extent they have alienated golfers. Their canned response tells it all.
Hi Madison,
We would like to apologize for your experience at Avery Ranch. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make it up to you.
