Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Best in town!
Okay that may be an exaggeration because I haven't played every course. But, the higher green fees here are actually worth it compared to some others in that range. Beautiful views, deer all over the place and lush green fairways.
The challenge is there but not evil. Maintained my typical handicap.
Overall not a single complaint
This course was in great shape with the recent rain every thing was green. However the green were recently punched but putted very well
Had a great time at the course staff was really nice and the round was good .
Fun Course
My second time to play this course and I enjoyed it once again. Great layout, scenic holes and plenty of wildlife to see while playing. Greens were a little sandy due to recent rains followed by the humid Texas heat but still was able to score and they held well on approach shots. All in all great day.
Jim
worse greens in Austin area...highest green fee!!
They are losing their greens.Almost no grass on em. Un-puttable. Obviously, they are trying to save em cause they had just dumped about a quarter inch of sand on em...horrible shape.I am absolutely shocked they said nothing to us and charged us a full green fee!! Pace of play was horrid,Marshall did nothing. We cornered another Marshall about the greens and he said " yea, they are gonna have to reseed em!". Omg in June. I d stay way clear of this poor excuse for a golf course. And to think their rack rate is $85.00. They ll feel the heat for this for some time. If I was a member here, I d be very mad.
A great course
Great course, but recent hard rains and sanding of greens hurt course conditions
nice course but sanded greens
I always enjoy playing Avery Ranch. Only issue this time was all the greens were heavily sanded. Obviously this seriously effected our putting. I would have liked to have been told that before I bought my Golf Now round. I would have played somewhere else had I known about the greens. Otherwise nice round. Fairways in great shape. Nice facility with very pleasant staff.
Greens are poor!
Tee to green the course is in very good condition. The greens are in horrible condition right now and are it is not looking like they are going to recover soon. Time to stop touting them as the best greens in town
This course is over rated
Green needs to be better and bunker is the worst.. For what they charge, would rather go somewhere else
Great Course, Staff Could be Friendlier
I play this course often because it's always a good challenge and it's always in great shape. My only disappointment is usually with the staff. Pro shop folks could be friendlier and more welcoming. Starters are usually less than chummy. This is still a customer service business am I correct?
Great course. Slow play.
Took over 2.5 hours on the front. Back was thinned out and faster. Staff was great as was course.
Avery Ranch
The course was overall in good condition. The greens could use a bit of touching up but the tee boxes and fairways were in spectacular condition. The only downside to my round was the 3-some in front of me refused to let me play through in the middle of the week so there was quite a wait behind me. I ended up pairing up with a member who was also a single which made the wait bearable but the marshall should have done his job and informed the group of their middle of the week pace was holding up a large number of groups. I guess the only other downside was the recent weather had caused the bottom of the bunkers to be almost cart path hard.
Course was challenging
Water everywhere, but enjoyed the course would like to play under dryer conditions
Solid Course
I've been playing Avery Ranch for years. It is in good shape, but I was disappointed that they over watered a couple of greens to the point where there was standing water on the greens. On the plus side, got out early and played a quick 3 hour round. Normally I expect a 4.5 hour round.
GOLFING IN NORTHWEST AUSTIN
My brother and myself were in from Cleveland to
move my daughter home from Austin and we
planned on playing a couple rounds of golf. We
given some choices from some local golfers and
selected Avery Ranch based on location. We were
pleasantly surprised with course layout, condition, and
the staff that were helpful and friendly. We were so
pleased that we booked a starting time for 5/4/15, the next morning. My brother and I have be playing
golf for 120 years combined.
poor value
The reason i rate this course a poor value is mainly the greens. They are not anywhere near the condition you would expect for a course charging what Avery does. I've played this course 5 or 6 times since it has opened and the greens were good only one of those times. Everything else is fine. Very frustrating.
Great Place - Slow Pace (that day)
We got on after a tournament, so it was backed up. Our round took 5.5 hours, which is pretty bad. We made the most of it as the course is beautiful and wildlife was abundant
A really nice course - we just caught it on a bad day
very slow play
after 5 hours and 13 holes we gave up and left. seems like a nice course but after being hit into multiple times and having our balls picked up by others we couldn't take it anymore. i guess i should of known when the starter said the group in front of us wanted to play with range balls because they didn't have any of their own
Another Great Experience
I have played this course numerous times and always enjoy coming back when I have some time off. The staff was great from payment to walking off the 18th with clean clubs. The course was in good shape and will be excellent once the greens finish growing in, especially on the front 9. The only negative thing I have to say is regarding the quality and quantity of the range balls. 20 balls is enough to at least stretch your muscles, but when over half of the balls are either completely smooth or have mower damage, it can make it tough to evaluate ball flight and make adjustments. Overall, another great experience and probably the course I would recommend as the best value in the area.
Great course, but pace of play and range balls could be better.
Avery Ranch is a challenging course, and was in very good condition. Very challenging par 3's. Greens rolled very true, and not gimmicky. Pace of play was 4.45-5.0 hours. Never saw a marshal.
Pro shop attendant didn't have a high opinion of GolfNow customers, or the service. I had paid in full but still quoted me a tee time rate. Told me he'd speak with the GM, and come get me on the course if there were issues with my pre-paid time.
They need new range balls. half the balls in my bucket were bald, discolored, basically useless.
On-board GPS system didn't work. 3rd course I've been to this month with the Sprint network Android GPS systems that didn't' work.
I know I wouldn't see my kid to a junior camp there as the instructor sounded more like a drill sergeant, or football coach the way he was barking at the kids.
