Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Avery is best public course in Austin
Avery Ranch is a great course and a great layout. Some holes are very memorable. Highly recommend this course - best public course in Austin.
Only blemish is greens can be a little bumpy on some holes, but still better than any other public course.
Great layout
This is my favorite public course in Austin. The course is always in great shape.
Course
The greens was one of worst greens I have played on. The sand traps was equally bad. The sand was more like in a kids sand box thick and rocky. The rest of the course was amazing. Fairway, rough, tee box, and the view was one of the best I've seen.
course has wildlife and is beautiful
course is in great condition but the greens need some attention.
Course is in great condition.
Love this course. Always in great condition. Staff is always friendly. Course is very fair.
9 holes rained out
I intended to play 18 holes but torrential rains made the second nine unplayable. The front nine was in very good condition with varied and challenging hole layouts. Strong winds made scoring difficult but the holes were fair and the greens smooth and moderately fast. I enjoyed the nine holes I played and will return to play 18 holes soon.
Great Fairways, sandy greens
The couse is very green. Fairways were very nice. Greens had recently been top dressed but were still playable. Great course.
Early morning round
Even though the greens had just been cross cut, they still rolled pretty good. The fairways were in excellent shape. We booked a tee time on Golfnow @ 6:36, so there was no one ahead or behind us. A 3:15 minute round! Love this course.
Course is in great shape
The recent rains have really helped the course. It is in the best condition that I have ever seen. Greens are smooth and consistent, fairways are in great shape, only the back tee box on 18 needs some work.
Avery Ranch
Definitely my favorite public course in Austin. Greens and fairways are great. Pace of play was pretty bad last couple times but that seems to be a problem everywhere. Pro shop guy never says more than one word to me but the girls at the bar make up for it. Awesome view from bar and course. A little pricey but you can get a good deal if you don't mind playing later in the day. ☆☆☆☆☆ Must play!
One of the best public courses in Austin
Avery Ranch is definitely one of the top public golf courses in the Austin area. Dont expect a 5 star, country club type course with amazing greens, but for being a public course, it is very good.
Very scenic course with fun, challenging shots. Hill Country course with lots of slop and elevation changes. Must land your drive in the fairway, or else you will be chipping out to hit your approach shot on the green.
Overall a very good course, that I highly recommend.
Great value
Even in wet conditions, course was well above average. After the recent flooding they will likely have to redo bunkers but that's mother nature, not the course
Awesome course
It was a great course and great value for a hot sale. Greens and fairways were just about perfect. The layout was very challenging and fun.
Great Course
Overall great course! I saw a deer on pretty much every hole. Fun time and the course was in great shape.
Great golf experience
This is and outstanding golf course with lots of different shots needed. Some water and trouble but generally not in play. Local knowledge is very important here as there are lots of tricks and surprises. The 5th hole is one of my ATF's in ATX
The deer and wildlife are a pleasant distraction.
Best course in Austin
Course is in great condition it was very windy but made the course that much better
Pace of play needs improvement
Booked my tee time through GolfNow like I normally do for any course. The rate was decent enough at $49 which seems to be average at this time of year. To kick start the round, it's disappointing to hit the cities oldest range balls. I remember playing this course last year and was struck by the cost and condition of their range balls. Many of then barely have dimples in them from over use. Guys, replenish your range. $4 for 25 terrible range balls is a bit steep in my opinion. Course conditions are pretty good. Fairways are better than average and the greens were in good shape as well. Pace of play was awful. When you book your tee time, it would be great to know that there's not 1, but 2 separate tourneys going on that day. We had a 6 some in front of us at one point that wasn't a tourney group. Very disappointing to say the least. Near the end of our round tons of high schoolers start showing up to pretty much take over the course. Nothing against these kids getting out to practice, but keep in mind this will slow down play exponentially if the groups are as large as we saw yesterday.
Good quality greens
The greens were very good. True and good speed.
Pace of play was very good.
Top End
Layout, length, challenge, course conditions, views--Avery Ranch has it all. Most of the par 3s are a little longer than they need to be for the average golfer, but oh well. And this is a minor annoyance, but I didn't notice ANY ball washers along the way.
