Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Challenging
Fairways were excellent and placement of the ball was crucial. Greens had been recently punched and sanded so ball didn't react true. Left many balls short or didn't break as read.
Should have disclosed the greens were sanded
This is my only complaint about the course. The greens were sanded the day before and no heads up was provided by the staff. I would have appreciated the info as I could have made another selection of a play to play this time
This course requires patience and a great short game
This by far was a great course for the value. Fairways and greens are in excellent shape

Always in excellent condition and staff is always nice and courteous. ..
Over priced, but worth it in your rotation, couple times a year
Avery Ranch is a great course if you are really into shaping your shot or having angles to hit into. Tight course with generally moderate sized fairways. Trees will generally determine the side of the fairway you want to be on as well as the flag location. Greens are generally flat and are a good pace. The type of grass used does make it difficult to read the greens for breaks. Typical issue of any golf course where players are playing the wrong tees, so you can run into a longer than usual round. If the course is not windy, then it is a fairly straightforward course with no real trouble if you stay within your game. Conditions are great in general. Driving facilities are abysmal as half the balls you are given are bare without dimples. Apparently the golf professionals did not get the memo that dimples are what creates drag and keeps a ball in the air. Beautiful views to be found on some of the front nine holes and number 18 is definitely as billed. I definitely recommend this course to anyone visiting for sure and for locals this should be on the once every few months rotation. I would say this course could be worth more visits if it was not 75$. There is not a 75$ course in town that is worth it unless it is a private course.
Avery Ranch Golf
Good course and in great condition! I definitely recommend this course to anyone in the Austin area.
Avery Ranch Course
Golf course has great views, fairways are like butter; take out bacon strips. Nice layout with good lengthy holes. Plenty of shade on a hot day. Challenging not overwhelming.
Austin Business Trip
Brought my clubs with me to Austin just in case I was able to break away and get a few holes in. Meeting ended early and I was able to venture out to Avery Ranch. Great course layout and in pretty good condition. I highly recommend this course.
Very nice slice of Central Texas
Nice course with very nice facilities. Some greens were a bit rough for a course of this caliber.
Nice Muni
Great value for $50. Very nice public course. It played a little slow but that would be my only minor complaint.
Avery is best public course in Austin
Avery Ranch is a great course and a great layout. Some holes are very memorable. Highly recommend this course - best public course in Austin.
Only blemish is greens can be a little bumpy on some holes, but still better than any other public course.
Great layout
This is my favorite public course in Austin. The course is always in great shape.
Course
The greens was one of worst greens I have played on. The sand traps was equally bad. The sand was more like in a kids sand box thick and rocky. The rest of the course was amazing. Fairway, rough, tee box, and the view was one of the best I've seen.
course has wildlife and is beautiful
course is in great condition but the greens need some attention.
Course is in great condition.
Love this course. Always in great condition. Staff is always friendly. Course is very fair.
9 holes rained out
I intended to play 18 holes but torrential rains made the second nine unplayable. The front nine was in very good condition with varied and challenging hole layouts. Strong winds made scoring difficult but the holes were fair and the greens smooth and moderately fast. I enjoyed the nine holes I played and will return to play 18 holes soon.
Great Fairways, sandy greens
The couse is very green. Fairways were very nice. Greens had recently been top dressed but were still playable. Great course.
Early morning round
Even though the greens had just been cross cut, they still rolled pretty good. The fairways were in excellent shape. We booked a tee time on Golfnow @ 6:36, so there was no one ahead or behind us. A 3:15 minute round! Love this course.
