Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.

The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.

No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.

Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Good condition - Nice course

This is a nice open course with some tricky holes like the Par 5 fifth and the Par 4 seventh, but not a difficult course to play. Greens are in great condition and fairways are very good also.

Well worth a visit.

Condition does justify cost

I love this course. The layout is challenging but fair and there are some classic holes (5, 7, 11, 12, 13, 15, 17 & 18). However, the fairways are in only fair condition, the bunkers are hard and crusty, and the greens need attention with a few in really ipoor condition. The price is much more than Star Ranch and Teravista but the condition of the course doesn't support the extra cost compared to these other courses.

I wish I had a house close to this course

Avery Ranch was a last minute decision for me and I'm truly happy that I made that decision. The staff here were nice and made me feel like I was a pro. I shot one of my best scores here. The guy I played with helped me out a lot and if it wasn't from him I may have not played as good as I did. Over all I will return to this course. I wanted to play another round but it was a little bit to hot for me. The last hole I hit a great shot from the right of the trees and made a birdie. I end up scoring a 73. I made many great shots but the last hole was a Molly Whopper! Good enough for me for the first time playing this course. I will return........This course is laid out for PGA tour Players. Great freakin course and I do know how to play golf. I know the diference. True Story!

this course was in perfect condition

Normally I don't play this golf course due to the fact that it is out of my price range but I happen to find while browsing golfnow a $24. tee time that I could not pass on. This could easily be a PGA type golf course and actually played very good off the well maintained fairways and greens. If I can find more cheap rates at this golf course then I will play it every time.

Great facility! The Greyhawk of Austin

Especially impressed with the amenities and the attention to guests. Staff was friendly and very accommodating. The practice facility could use some TLC. The course was in great shape. One drawback was no on course help - forecaddies, GPS or caddy book. Thus the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5.

Course is finally back! Thanks rain!

I feel this course slacked off the last year or 2 but is finally looking great this year! There were a couple of times I've been there this year that the greens were really hairy for this course but may have been after aireation. The front 9 is always a survival to the 9th hole. The back 9 with the exception of 18 is soo much friendlier and easier to score on.
This has always been one of my favorite courses.6/

Wow

Very impressed with this course. The conditions were near perfect. I have never played a course in this great of condition in my life.
The course was also very challenging as well. Several of the tee shots are either in the fairway or out of bounds.
I would definitely recommend this course.

Good but slow and wet

The course had been over watered and had a few too many overly wet spots. Overall the course appeared to be good, but the marshall did nothing to address the problems with the exceptionally slow group in front of mine despite twice being told that they were a nightmare.

Great layout, poor pace of play

Notoriously known for having too many Marshalls but taking forever to play, Avery drives me insane. I love the layout - the back is much easier than the front - but unless you get there early, it takes forever. Pick it up and play on guys!

Bad Customer Service

I used to think Avery Ranch was one of the best courses in Austin, but it has gone downhill. I played one of my best rounds in awhile, so I should've left with positive thoughts of the course, but it was just the opposite. The greens were not well maintained, the carts no longer have GPS and distances were hard to find on many holes, and to top it all off, the starter was extremely rude. Not a good experience at all.

Pretty good track on a Thursday afternoon

The course was in good shape considering the drought. Some of the greens were heavily sanded and some of the greenside bunkers (which were thoroughly evaluated by me personally) were more firm than you would expect. Also there were alot of unrepaired divots, but overall it was a great value for the money ($40 for 18+cart). A couple of negatives; we had a threesome going out and they put a single with us (not necessarily a bad thing), but then they proceeded to send off singles right after us who quickly caught up to us. We allowed them to play through, but I think they could have coordinated that a bit better. The other negative was that the beverage cart disappeared after the 3rd hole and never came back around. I still give them 4 stars because it was better than good day at work!

Tough Track...lots of fun and lots of challenge

Your visit to Avery Ranch feels more like a visit to a wildlife sanctuary...birds, deer and tons of wildlife seem to be around every cornner at Avery Ranch...course is in great shape and although fun is a tough test of golf...feels like two very different nines as the front feels like the woods and the back feels like you are in a neighborhood...you can walk this course, although I didn't this day...I would go back...

Great course conditions and good views of lakes and creeks

The course fairways and greens were in great condition. Groups of golfers were paced apart enought to allow good pace of play. Very nice views of lakes and creeks. Some of these make for some intiminating looking tee shots but actually not as difficult as they look. The normal rates are a little pricey but there is good value for your money. It is a great course to play if you happen to get a good discount deal through golfnow.

Very Beautiful

I booked this course for my husband for his 39th birthday, he had no idea about it, and I just went off the reviews, some good and some bad, but went ahead with it. When we got there, from the time we pulled into the parking lot, the staff was excellent and always available to answer questions. The only drawback was that they had 2 tournaments that were playing in front of us, so instead of it taking us 3.5-4 hours to play it took on the upward side of 5.5. My husband got placed with another single player, and it turned out that he was very helpful, being that he had played this course before. Overall we had a great time, the course was very well kept, maintained and staff was very friendly as I mentioned above. We would definitely play this course again, and would definintely recommend to family and friends.
