Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Nice local course
This is a pretty standard residential course. It's fairly challenging and fun for all abilities.
Still tough
Avery is a very nice course. They did not overseed anything but the greens, but it was still in pretty good condition.
Avery challenges not only to get past all the obstacles and water, but when you finally reach the green, the real trickery begins !! Nearly all the greens have multiple compound slopes - many of which are pretty steep.
Bring plenty of extra balls......
Avery Ranch
By far, the best daily fee course in the Austin area. And wow, the staff is amazing. Bring the spouse and kids and spend the day. Good times
NEW YEAR'S EVE DAY
I enjoyed the round and remembered how difficult some of the hole could be like number 8 and 9. I love the layout on the front 9. The play was really slow on the back 9 and there was no Marshall to come around to hurry the groups playing slow. My friend Edward had never played before and thought the course was nice. The lady in the club house was a long time employee and remembered me of when i use to work there. She was very professional and treated us with kindness. Also Brian who is also a great long time friend and employee there.
Of course Brent is still there and as the same of when I worked there is still the same self centered jerk who only treats those with money with professionalism and forgets that the hardwork of veterans is the reason he has a job to come to everyday. Aside from him, that is one of the best golf courses t play in the spring and summer but the rates are way to high. Delaware Springs in Burnet is just as beautiful and the staff is amazing to everyone that plays there and the rates are always awesome. A military discount is always given too!
Don't let Avery Ranch fool you when they host a military play day, they only do it for the publicity and the cost is way to high.
Get rid of Brent and bring in someone with a cheerful attitude, great customer service, and professional treatment of every player and that course will prosper even more.
Great course
Great course, friendly staff. Pace of play was excellent and checked on by Marshall several times.
Good condition slow play
Played behind a foursome with 2 walkers. Course and greens in great shape
It was good, but I expected it to be great...a bit disappointed
It's a nice course. It has some memorable holes, but also some "blah" holes. We saw a lot of deer from holes 3-9, who didn't seem scared of people. The starter was a very intense, old man, with an accent that seemed perhaps Scottish. He called our group to the tee 10 min before our tee time, and was angry when I didn't respond to him. I couldn't understand him! I thought he was calling someone else's name. Also, he may want to actually walk up to and ask the people on the range if they are the person he is looking for, rather than screaming himself hoarse next to the tee where no one can hear him. Anyway, the $1 first beer after the rd, on a patio with a nice view is cool. The fairways are very thin, and you'll struggle hitting irons unless you're Boo Weekley. Greens were pretty good, not overly fast but not too slow, probably 10.5 on the stimp.
course has a lot of deer
was great course despite the tremendous amount of rain during the round.
The course is great! Bring your bug spray for the mosquitos:)
Fairways were pristine and the greens rolled great. Enjoyable round. Challenging par 3's. The only reason i gave it 4 stars was because of the mosquitos. From Holes 12-18 have your bug spray ready (lol). i realized that we had recent rains but the fact remains: they were swarming. Don't let it stop you though. The course will make up for the slight inconvenience.
Great rentals
Avery Ranch lived up to our expectations and then some. We arrived to a beautiful clubhouse and had no problem checking in after making our reservation the same day on golf now. We were pleasantly surprised to be outfitted with Taylor Made RBZ clubs and a couple sleeves of balls. The course layout was excellent and well maintained. The only downside was the five hour round at 2:30 in the afternoon. I would recommend a ranger on the course.
Even though we had a lot of rain, course was in good shape
Even though we had a lot of rain, course was in good shape. We had to use the cart path, no problem, we got some good extra exercise!!!! Greens were in good shape. Only thing with the rain, the traps were washed out and full of water, therefore had to take a drop. No big deal. Really pleased the Avery Ranch staff let us play.
Provides great ability check.
Fairways & rough are excellent. Greens were smooth and medium fast. Golfing experience was very good. This is a very nice course to play and can punish wayward shots - sometimes strong punishment but it also can reward well placed shots.
This course is much more fun to play if you play the tees that match the length of your drives. Playing it forward still makes for very challenging shots and lets you have some real fun with your clubs.
Don't forget the Cold mugs and $1 first beer after the round. Great clubhouse.
Great place for weekend outing.
The fairways and greens in great shape. The various tees allow you to make the course as challenging as your want. Great 19th hole and view to relax after a round of golf.
One of my favorite in Austin
Great course and very well maintained.
Would play again this wknd, if I lived closer.
Best greens I played in Austin last wknd.
This course was great.
I was very impressed with the course at Avery Ranch. If you can find a deal that is around $39, it is an absolute steal. It is one of the premier golf courses in the Austin area that competes with the likes of Falconhead and Grey Rock except that you're getting it at a fraction of the cost. I highly recommend it!
Great Choice
I hadn't played Avery Ranch for several years and it was still the great course I remembered. Fairways were in great shape, however the greens were recovering from aeration a couple of weeks earlier and were a little bumpy and inconsistent. They should heal in a few weeks and be great.
Tough course, but usually slow and over priced
I love this course, and play it as often as I can. But it's a relatively tough course, and sees a lot of slow golf. Don't come out here expecting a <4-hour round.
The full fees are over priced, even after twilight. But if you get a deal on this site or via something like the development club, it turns out to be a good (sometimes, great) value.
Beautiful course!
I had been wanting to play it for a while but didnt want to pay $60+, but got a great deal from Golfnow.com for only $21! The greens had just been punched and sanded, so probably why so cheap.
Despite the greens, the layout is challenging but fun. I really liked it. They need MORE drinking water for these TX summer days though.
I was told by my playing partners they're really slow on the weekends (4 1/2 to 5 hr+ rounds), plus it's more expensive too, so play on a weekday if you can for the best experience.
