Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Great Staff. Great Course. Great Experience.
Drove in straight from Houston for a guy's golf weekend and was glad that I picked this course to start the trip off. I could tell from the minute I drove in that it was going to be a good round. The pro that checked us in was very cordial and accommodating and helped out with the whole group. The course was in good shape and fairly straight forward (not too many blind shots like some hill country courses). Accurate drives are a must and the par 3's seemed pretty difficult, although maybe I was having an off day (or just one too many cocktails). The whole group had a great time. We were all disappointed that we missed out on the dollar beer after the round due to a private function, but we really probably didn't need anymore at that point in time. I would definitely recommend this course.
Well maintained fairways and greens that read true
I frequent this course when there are deals on golfnow. Usually its around 80 bucks, which is not worth that kind of money in my opinion.
Fantastic course!
From the time you enter the front gate of the property you know you are in for a treat. The property is immaculant. The course generally slopes from right to left with everything from water to thick rough to cliffs on the left balanced out by strategically placedbunkers on the right and protecting the greens. The water features and beautiful homes/yards and scenic views add something special to the course as well as the abundnt wildlife. The par 3s as a collective are long and all are beautiful, the best I have ever golfed having golfed over 35 courses. The course overall has slipped into my top 5 and my crew and I will be returning soon!
Great Course, Great Golf
I had a great time at Avery Ranch. I found a deal for a $21 tee time, which is significantly less than normal green fees of $75. I enjoyed a great, relaxing round of golf on a course that was in nearly perfect condition. I highly recommend and will definitely play here again!!
the course was in decent shape.
The staff was friendly. The course had nice greens and putted very well. There were a few wet spots in the fairway from a broken sprinkler heads. Overall the course was fun to play.
Challenging course in good condition. Worthy of your time.
Challenging course with plenty of tee box options. Course condition was great given the recent rain. Rack rate is overpriced but well worth a Hot Deal.
Glad this is my neighborhood course
First time playing the course and it was more forgiving than I expected. The course is in great shape, so much so that the deer seem to think it's a great place to hang out as well.
Excellent upscale public golf
Challenging layout with great variety. Lots of forced carries off the tee, but fair. Tremendous elevation changes. Bunkers in good condition. Greens a little slow but nearly flawless coverage.
Have played it before and will play it again.
Pace of play for a Saturday afternoon was 4.5 hours.
Great value!
Avery Ranch is a great golf course. The greens were fast and held a shot very well. The fairways were very well maintained and a pure pleasure to hit from. I will definitely play this course again.
Well maintained course, great scenery and wildlife, fun course
Found a great tee time deal through GolfNow, and had wanted to play Avery Ranch for a while. Got there about an hour early to check-in and warm up. The club house is very nice, well maintained, and had a great overlooking view of the lake.
The driving range was well maintained as well. What was unique about Avery Ranch was that around each target green there were some bunkers. This made it very easy to try and dial in irons, and figure out your TRUE carry distance. Putting and chipping green were in great shape too.
The staff were friendly enough. They weren't rude by any means, they just did their jobs and moved along.
My friend and I went on a day where it rained torrentially in the early morning. Our tee time was at 3, and the course looked dry. The course's drainage was very good, and the only noticeably wet areas were in the bunkers. Because of the wetness, we were able to play a nice round at a relaxed pace. There was nobody waiting behind us, and we never reached the group ahead of us. It was like playing the course alone, and we were able to finish in 4 hours.
Great course, glad I had the chance to play it. The normal rates are a bit pricey for me, so the only way I'd go back is with another nice deal. But worth the trip for sure.
Great condition with very fast greens
I loved this course. Wide fairways, with lightning fast greens.
Excellent Public Course
Avery Ranch is one of the best public courses in the Austin area. The course offered a nice variety of holes and excellent greens. The pace of play was a touch on the slow side, but it was a Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend so it wasn't a big surprise. I'd certainly recommend Avery Ranch to others.
Course was in excellent shape - great round!
This was a great course - it was definitely worth the drive from SW Austin - will absolutely play again!
Enjoyable golf experience
Avery Ranch is a fun golf course that holds your attention without beating you up. The design is a nice blend of benign and challenging holes laid over interesting, Hill Country topography. Adjacent housing on several of the holes really doesn't come into play or affect the character of the course. Our most recent experience revealed the golf course to be in its customary good condition. The greens appeared to have recently been verti-cut, so they were a little longer than usual (maybe 8.5-9 on the Stimp), which is not uncommon after this procedure. All the same, they putted true and were in otherwise good shape. Fairways and aprons were very good for this early in the growing season. I was in three greenside bunkers and they were in generally good shape with the right kind of sand. The beverage cart girl and the bartender were pleasant and professional. The starter wasn't as crusty as I remembered him; maybe somebody had a word with him and he had thus undergone a positive attitude change. The pro behind the desk was friendly and helpful with directions, etc. Midway through the front nine the marshal had to encourage us on one occasion. I felt this was legit since our higher handicap players were dawdling a little. He was businesslike if not truly friendly and never crossed the line. All in all, it was a fun day and we'll be back.
The greens were slow and need attention.
Okay if you are looking for an upscale muni. There are a few really in ce holes. We travel several times a year to play golf and have played all over the country. This is not a course we would travel to play again. It is a good layout, just not a course worthy when compared to Wolfdancer or Paa Ko Ridge or Black Mesa.
heard good things about it.
the course was not in good shape when we played it. the greens were being airated, so they had a lot of bumps. the holes were interesting and the staff was very good.
Conditions are inconsistent
Sometimes Avery is great, sometimes it's in rough shape. My last round the greens had just been sanded and no one told us when we booked, checked in, or tee'd off. Got to number one green and it was like putting in a bunker. Other than that, the course was in nice shape.
One of the best tracks in the area. Scenic but challenging.
My family frequently play this course. Typcially in good shape. Greens have been plugged and sanded getting ready for spring. Sand traps need more attention. Inconsistent quality with many having large rocks and hard pan. A large walking contingency contributes to slow pace of play. People taking short cuts from 11 green to 18 tee late in the day caused backups as well. This needs to be better managed if not halted.
This is a great course for the money !
Played on a Saturday morning. They have nice chipping green, putting greens and driving range to start out with. The course was in good shape considering it is the end of February ! The green had just been airated duing the week so there was a little sand on them, but they still where in good shape.
Very challenging layout, especially on the front nine holes. Beautiful setting in the suburbs not far from Austin.
Played this course just after the greens had been "sanded", so not a true indicator of how this course normally looks and plays. Sand on the greens definitely detracted from the action on the greens and made the putts much slower. It appears that the winter months have affected the greens and fairways of this course to a much greater extent than other courses I have played in this area. When the greens are in good shape and the dormant grass begins to come out with warmer weather, this course should be back to it's normal great condition. Lengthy holes are the norm here, so be prepared with your long game. Offers very different looks and challenges on each hole, so you will not be bored when playing this course. Has creeks/ravines that enhance the challenges on several holes. Also plenty of trees. Two thumbs up regarding the bunkers/sand traps ; they are very well-maintained. Plenty of wildlife to see throughout the a typical round--deer, chapparals, and squirrels. If you can get a good price through GolfNow, do this. Otherwise you will pay a rather stout fee to play here as compared to other area courses. Note that the carts are not equipped with GPS, which is an oddity for a couse with this kind of fee scale. Has a nice practice range. However, the putting greens are a glaring weakness; could use a complete make-over of the putting greens. Overall, when the course is in top condition it is worth it to go and play it.
