Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Greens inconsistent
The green speeds were inconsistent on just about every hole. The front nine play was very slow, thankful 4 some in front of us didn't play back nine.
First time at Avery ranch
For $80 on a Wednesday at 1130, I would expect the greens to be in much better condition. Lay out was of course was fun, very nicely maintained after ice storm, fairways and approach cuts were clean and healthy, bunkers played nicely but I will definitely play again at a cheaper price now that I know what it has to offer.
Greens are gone
Love this course but currently the greens are in bad shape.
Disappointed
Had a 3 pm tee time, got there at 2. Waited at the range until 2:35 for practice balls to be brought out, didn’t swing a club until then. Not open bay to hit from, then the putting green was closed. We begin the round at 3:07 because the group in front of us was in awe that they were on a golf course. I can deal with all of that. What I cannot condone is that the next 3 hours produced 8 played holes of golf. No Marshall telling people to speed up. Group in front of us hitting multiple balls. This is why I don’t play Avery Ranch.
4 hours for 14 holes
The pace is horrendous. After 2:45 we had finished the front nine. After 4 hours we left after hole 14. The greens were in terrible shape and the puts would bounce up and down and everywhere.
Great layout and challenging course
My only gripes were they had a fire and so they lost a lot of golf carts and when I called to verify my tee time they said they were running late but didn’t tell me it was be cause they didn’t have a cart for us, then we only saw the cart girl once but other than that the course was amazing and in great shape. Overall still a great experience and they did their best to accommodate everyone

First time playing all 18 holes
I played the Back 9, 3 times in the summer heat just under 100°. Decided to play the whole course on one of the last warm days of 2022. It was 80° when I played this time. What a gorgeous course, great condition, challenging, variety, elevations, and lots of deer even a 4 point buck! .

Course is in great condition
Greens are great
Pace of play was almost five hours. People in front of us were talking instead of playing when the green was clear. No Marshall on the course.
Hello, Joegmartin. Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. With that in mind, we are working to best control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. Thank you for playing and we hope to see you again soon.
Hi, BWiemann. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Avery Ranch Golf Club.
pace of play
Pace of play was slow. It took at least 4 3/4 hrs and we couldn't even finish the 18 th hole as it was too dark
Pro shop smug
I called in to set a tee time for 4 for a Tuesday. Person on the phone did not specify that all 4 people must show up or I will get charged for the 4th who’s kid got sick and couldn’t show. The cashier boy in the pro shop was as so smug about it I wanted to throw up. I will NEVER play here again. Tried to tell me this is a golf wide policy at all courses like I don’t play twice a week in central Texas. Maybe spend more time tightening up the condition of your muni course and less about stealing from your patrons. Never again.
gone downhill
i used to play this course regularly when it first opened. i lived near it and the layout was very interesting. the greens especially were great. fast forward 4 years, i moved to the other side of town, and the course is under different management. the prices are up 50% since i last played, and i was VERY disappointed in the greens. they were slow and bumpy with a weed infestation. i got a very low rate as a single filling in a group last minute. i would not ever pay their regular rate to play the course in its current condition.
Love the course hate the pace of play
Very thankful this course gives access to the public. Very sad it takes 5 hours to play it on the weekend. Played my best 9 holes ever on the front, which was super fun. Back was a little tougher on my game. They give women an awesome chance to play along with the men so that always makes it more fun when our drives are in a similar location. Thanks again for letting us on your course!
