Cheval Golf and Athletic Club
About
Designed by Steve Smyers, Cheval Golf and Athletic Club's (previously known as Cheval Country Club) mature and meticulously maintained course meanders through 860 acres of elegantly designed development property. Cypress trees abound on this course along with native Florida wildlife including deer, alligators, otters, eagles, wading birds and more. Cheval is one of the area's most prestigious semi-private clubs and offers 18 holes of championship golf. Precise shot placement is required to avoid the 108 bunkers and water hazards that lurk on every hole. A large practice facility includes target greens, distance markings, a practice greens-side bunker, a practice fairway bunker, large putting green and separate pitching green.

Nice course.
I’m a 13 hdc and dad is an 18. Nice course in good condition. We visited the Tampa area for the week and played several courses in the $40 range. This course, by far, was the nicest.
Fantastic Floridian golf course
Lots of water, scenic, and very good pace of play. Great deal, not too far from the downtown Tampa area.
Staff was great really personable & informative
The 17th hole is still under construction, but we were notified well in advance. The rest of the course was in good shape one green on the back nine was rough . Hitting the greens on this course makes it much more enjoyable ,trouble just off the greens
Beautiful
Course is layed out nice ...greens could be better but at this time of year. ...can't wait to get back
Christmas Eve golfing
Pace of play was slow there was a foursome in front of us with a 4 yeah old playing with them... Not on Christmas Eve.... Didn't let us play through.... But other than that had a great time... Can't wait to play there again..... Tim Weather Man Young
Disappointed
GolfNow should have warned prospective customers that hole #17 (the best par three on the course) was closed and was replaced by a 30' putt on the practice green! Had this been done, I would have booked a different course for my friend and I, and perhaps considered Cheval next spring. To say the least, this "blindside" was disappointing (especially for my friend who can only play once per week).
great and not great
played cheval solo today - excellent course, some greens we’re in rough shape around the edges but pins were not near that so no issues. knew ahead of time that the 17th hole was closed so again, no issue there for $30 - great layout with challenging holes the whole way through. would definitely play again
only complaint was catching a group of 4 in front of me on the 5th hole and waiting on every shot until a 3some behind me caught me on hole 11 and I played with them. I assume the group of 4 were members and didn’t think twice about making me wait behind them while they played their round with no one in front of them. no ranger on course enforcing pace of play.. 3.5 hour round easily could have been finished in 2
Course conditions could have been better
The rough was pretty deep and some fairways were spongy. Also some greens on the back nine need work. The fairways were great, but I paid a steep price whenever I missed. Also there was a 4 some of ladies who held up play during the entire back nine and should have let everyone play thru (no rangers?). Hopefully it will be better next time I play!
No warning, that hole 17 is under repair.still we had to pay full price.golf now and the club should have advised us beforehand. The provisional hole 17 is a joke.
Several greens are in an awful condition..
The layout is beautiful.
Lots of water
Lots of tee shots over water. Accuracy off the tee can make your approach shots a lot shorter
Good not Great
Not a premier 5 star course anymore. However a nice layout for $30 a great deal yes will play there again
NotWhatWeExpected
We had never played Cheval together so when we saw a $30 rate we jumped on it. Unfortunately it was not a good 1st impression. The golf cart kept pooping out, cart path only with soggy course conditions throughout (we only learned of the cart path only requirement after calling to report our 2nd malfunctioning cart), no 17th hole due to repairs...it just wasn't what we expected at Cheval.
Disappointing
I was surprised and disappointed when we played today. The tees were a little shabby, the fairways were OK, but the greens were not very good. Some had large blemishes filled with sand. We had been here a couple of months ago when most courses were being aerated. But instead of punching holes in the green, they had created rib-like furrows. I had never seen that before. Two months later, the ribs are still obvious on the green and definitely affect the roll of the ball. They tend to guide the ball if you are putting parallel to the ribs, and makes it very bumpy if you putt across them.
Also, for some strange reason, they totally forgot to mention that there is no 17th Hole! There is a new housing development going in, and the hole has been totally torn up, and you would never know that there was ever a par 3 there. I think that's something that you may want to mention on the GolfNow listing, or at least tell you in the clubhouse when you check in. The 4 of us decided we will not be back anytime soon. If I was a member here, I'd be very unhappy.
My suggestion is that if you would like to go and play 18 holes, go elsewhere.
Great Day
We had a great day on the course. Can't wait go go back agai in September or October
Horrible
I played this course about 10 years ago and it was first class to say the least. I played it again and was excited but found out quickly it’s not what it use to be. Course was in horrible shape. Greens recently punched and are horrible. I’ve played lots of punches greens but these are ridiculous. Won’t be going back anytime soon.
wow
One of the few courses that compel you to stop at various locations, look around, and marvel at how beautiful everything is: course conditions, the surrounding houses, the trees, etc. A terrific bargain.
Almost unplayable.
Played Cheval before 2 months ago and it was great. Fast forward to 7/21/2018 and the course was in bad shape. Plugged drives and very wet tee boxes, this course should not have been opened for play. We had to push the cart girl out of mud on the 17th hole because she got stuck.
Over Rated
Extremely wet. The course should not have been opened. Deep ruts all over-plugged balls on many wedges-slow greens-standing water on most of the fairways-carts battery died called pro shop for another cart they left us stranded. One of the worse days of golf I’ve ever had.
