The staff lied about being booked then apologized when it was proven to be false.
Beyond Terrible- they should pay you
Been paying General Old since I was a kid since it reopened. This course has completely become almost unplayable. You celebrate when you find green grass! Everything is dirt and painted. Horrible and not worth even a free round!
Poor golf course
By far the worst golf course I’ve ever played on. All the fairways are dead f& full of dirt. The bunkers are full of mud. Just the worst golf course I’ve ever played on. I will never play there again or recommend it to anyone
Fairway need water
Overall the course use to be really good but today this course is bad the fairway are in bad condition their just paint green .
Good times
It was a perfect day to play not too hot not too. Cold pace was good. The track was in good condition. The best value in town.
Painted fairways
Man this course use to be a staple. They don’t water the fairways anymore and just paint it green for 56$ a round we gotta do better! Fairmount park 9 hole course is in much better condition and half the price
General Old
Nice track. Greens were decent the fairways were a little edgy. Overall a great place to play.
Barely Hanging On
The good: greens are nice and price was reasonable . The bad: fairways are mostly dirt and potholes, lumps and animal holes are everywhere. Staff is mostly young guys who aren’t particularly friendly. This place is in a holding pattern, waiting for the nearby veterans cemetery to take over the land. This was a very nice course 10+ years ago but is in serious decline.
Course Marshall
First the course was in terrible condition. The fairways were essentially dead grass or dirt, dusty and terrible.
My biggest issue was the course Marshall (didn't get his name but he was a Hispanic man wearing a USC pullover log sleeve jacket). He was extremely rude and threatening to my group. We had a group of 6 players and as we sat at the first tee waiting to tee off) we were told we could not have a group of 6 play in the same group to which we said "OK". The first group (4) was standing on the tee box and the other 2 were sitting in their cart as the Marshall drives up to the group of 2 and immediately begins to raise his voice, took a very unprofessional tone and says "you'd had better not play as a group of 6 or we will kick you off the course and refund your money" his tone and demeanor was very aggressive and rude, mind you the two people he was talking to were teenagers, as they were listening to him and shaking their heads saying "yes, we understand" he again even more forcefully says "you have been warned and I will make sure to kick you off the course if you don't do what I tell you". To which I took offense to as it was my son and his friend. He then , on his phone, drove about 15 yards away and sat there and watched us tee...I then began to say to him "why are you watching us? we haven't even tee'd off, what's your problem?" after the first group teed off and was driving to our ball on the course, he drives up aggressively and begins to get yell "Who are you taling to? are you talking to me?" to which I replied "yes, I am talkig to you..you're beeing aggressive and rude for no reason" He then threatens me by saying "you had better not play as a group of 6 or kick you off" to which I said "we already told that at check in..why are you in our faces?" He then says again "do it and I'll kick you off" ....then for the next 4 holes he literally follows our group...meanwhile...two groups ahead of us there was a group of 8 playing together, teeing off together with no word from the marshall..and three groups ahead was a group of 6 all playing together. He continued to follow our group for the first 8 holes.
I have been coming to general old for over 10 years...I will never come back again.
Do Not Waste Your Time and Cash
I’ve been playing Old for at least 20 years. I’ve never seen it in the condition it was today. While it’s never been a top-flight course by any stretch, it was always a decent go-to as far as bang for your buck. It should have been a telltale sign when we were able to fly through the first few holes. That’s saying a ton when it comes to General. Anyone who knows this place knows how infamous it is for slow paced play. The fairways are PAINTED GREEN. They are literally dirt and patchy, almost crabgrass right now. Good try General. The fairways are bad enough, but if your drive strays just a little off the beaten path, just pick it up and find some semblance of grass. You WILL damage your clubs if you attempt to swing off this concrete type dirt and moreover, you WILL NOT be able to get your ball in the air, especially with a fairway wood. The sand traps are nothing more than dried up mud, most of the tee boxes are overgrown and/or patchy, and the greens are pretty bumpy. Honestly, they ought to be ashamed of themselves charging even $45 in peak hours. If you’re on a budget or just want to enjoy the weather on a not-so-challenging track, save yourself the frustration and play Fairmount twice. Or if you’re going to insist on playing the General, bring your backup set of clubs
Still dry
Grass in fairways is dead and painted green. Greens are bumpy. Fairways are so dry you can hit the middle and bounce as if it were concrete. Not in playable condition.
Average Course
Overall course experience was decent with the exception of the martial, seemed like he was singling our group out, we weren’t holding anyone back nor hitting into groups in of us. We understand we were a bigger group and were mindful of any players behind us or in front of us. Will definitely not be going back here.
