General Old Golf Course

I grew up on this course in the 80s and 90s playing with my grandfather who was anAir Force Lt. Colonel. I was visiting my family for Father’s Day and wanted to revisit this place as I have wonderful memories. To say I was saddened and shocked at the state of it would be an understatement. The fairways were dried out and extremely bumpy and the grass was as penal as playing out of the rough at most other courses. All of the water has been drained from the ponds and there is no sand in the bunkers. The greens were in fantastic shape and were very receptive but they were extremely bumpy and putts were a version of Plinko. The areas in the rough and between the holes were left to overgrow and it just feels like all of the passion and love that this course used to evoke is long since forgotten. It has a great layout and I think could really be a gem if some investment was made. But perhaps the golf climate doesn’t justify it. I spent Father’s Day here with my dad and loved the time with him but if I could do it again I might have chosen a different course or went in which much lowered expectations.

I have played this course hundreds of times. There are times when it seems the maintenance af the course is lacking and I don't play here when it is bad. Took a chance this weekend and the course is in much better shape.

Greens were good. Fairways were good. Tee boxes were good. Roughs are good. All are slightly above average as far as playability. I think it gets its bad reviews because of the out if bounds areas but that’s out of bounds. The fact that you can go out of bounds is good enough already. Very roomy course due to the fact that the out of bounds areas are technically still playable. fairly easy as well good course overall especially for beginners. Clubhouse great also full bar and food options.

Great value....pace was great. Range officer is great. Front desk staff...eh.. love the multiple par 4s and 5s. I go all the time for value.

The flow of play was horrendous as the foursome ahead was more focused on trying to look for their [lost] balls rather than [just] moving on; tried giving this course another chance, but the patience needed to play here is just not worth the reasonable green fee...good luck!

Good course to learn to hit hybrids. Im a senior (81yrs) but play to a 12 but still need hybrids to get to almost every hole. Starter and staff are nice and hellpful.

We had a great time at General Old. The greens were perfect, the fairways were decent and we need to go back more often. The last time we were there the carts were a mess. That problem has been corrected. The edges of each fairway were very rough with lots of gopher holes but that is how most course in this area are. The cart trails could use some smoothing out (or provide everyone with helmets) because you do bounce around a LOT! But we had fun and will revisit this course again. For sure!

It was easy to get a tee time on Wednesday morning. The staff was friendly on checkin. Lots of carts available. Decent driving range, putting green and chipping practice areas. The course conditions were ok. Quite a few thin spots and the grass on the greens is pretty rough but otherwise in good shape. No complaints for the money.

Every time I play here it is extremely slow. They must overbook. Expect 5+ hours even if a twosome. Sometimes 6 hours.

Took 5 hours to complete our round of golf. Two groups of 5 were in front of us and they cared less about their speed of play. Elder gentlemen and carried on conversations instead of getting ready for their next shot.

Allowing groups of 5 are the death of golf courses but apparently this course didn’t get the memo and the guy behind the counter was not concerned about pace of play, or allowing groups of 5.

I have never played any course worse than this. Green is bad, fairway is bad. All just si bad. Even car path is in bad condition. A few holes don’t have cart path but just dirty, bumpy, dirt path. Super slow pace. The rough was so poorly maintained.

Good value. Course in overall solid shape. Tee boxes to greens. Rough pretty thick. EXCELLENT practice area. large driving range and you hit off of grass not mats. Food is good and cheap prices. Pace was slow but expected on a Friday mid day. Staff is very nice.

The course and staff are always great. Only thing that was not good was showing up, they had a junior tournament going. So tee times were 30-45 minutes behind, once started play, it took 1 hour and 25 mins to play through 3 first holes. I packed up and left. Way to many 5 some groups, and pace of play was horrible. me and others i was paired with all left after hole 3. Not worth the money one bit.
