Golfer Reviews
Be prepared to wait.
I know its winter but the front was pure "hard pan"; the back was a little greener. Play was atrociously slow--no marshall--and we waited after nearly every shot. It appears everybody stops for lunch at the turn and we all wait in line. Frustrating.
Greens are in good shape and a real challenge with a few really tough pin placements.
Well supplied Pro Shop and BAR. Good Food.
Course is well maintained. It could be much better if some of our fellow golfers would take the time to fix their divots on the greens! What happen to fix yours and at least one more when on the green. Enough venting.
General Old is one of my favorite courses and is really shiny since the remodel. The entire building is first class and the staff including the kitchen staff are always friendly.
Keep up the good work.
Season made grass brownish
Everything was good except for the young kid at the check-in counter. He has no people skill at all. We paid at the front desk and he did not even gave us keys for the cart. When we asked him for the keys of the cart, he asked us back "do you need carts?" We booked at Golfnow.com and says carts included. He asked us what time is our tee time and we gave him both our teetime and names according to what we always use at Golfnow.com. and yet asked us so many questions like haow many are you where in fact we all four were there standing in front of him, which of course we already told him. He sounded so sarcastic everytime he talked to us. Not sure his name was but seems to be Tim. He even started us late, approximately twenty minutes from our teetime. One thing good was the Marshall, he was more of an elderly guy which started us immediately as he could. Very kind and professional. We had a great short conversation a hole 1. He even came out somewhere at the back nine to see how we were doing. Overall, it was a great experience except for that young guy that I think the golf course management should put him somewhere away from customers.
Always enjoy playing this course
I haven't played the course in quite a while. They had made changes to the course. But as always it was great golf.
Great place to hit a round for golfers of all skill levels.
Very open and friendly staff, other players here seem to be relaxed and not pushy, the course is somewhat challenging, nice and long for long ballers, the greens were outstanding!
I do wish the fairways were a little better quality, but for the price it has been a nice place to play.
Nice course
Old general is a nice course. The wide open design is nice for people like me who have massive hook shot. You can drive your ball far off the fairway and not have to worry about being on some other hole. The condition of the grass is fair. The bunkers are nice and raked. I love playing the Old General.
General Old Delivers
I have playing General Old for many years. The course has historically been in fairly good shape but it has had it's up and downs. Right now the greens are in very good shape. The fairways are in OK shape but some bare spots are starting to appear and need attention. The sand traps are also in need of some fresh sand as there are many of them. They have only a thin layer of sand over the underlying dirt. Overall I would recommend as of today.
Nice Greens and New Club House
Friendly place to play. Really nice value for your money. not many hills but plays long.
Fairway a little chewed up
Overall good values, the fairway was chewed up, however the green rolled true.
Best bang for your buck in the IE!!
Booked a mid-day Saturday tee time at the last minute and surprisingly found the course not too crowded, thus my round took less than 3.5 hours. Greens are in excellent shape, but the fairway grass in several spots, looks winter-challenged, but still very playable. The staff, as I've always experienced, was very accomodating.
Open field, forgiving, and fun practice course
I've been golfing here for year now, and the course I always up and down but ultimately it is really fun to play. Some of the best greens, and really good looking club house, but they shouldn't have started to raise the golf fees because they might have reconstructed the club house, but the course is still the same... Maximum value to play and feel like you weren't robbed, $35 bucks, you pay anymore and you might feel like you could of played elsewhere and actually seen a well kept beautiful green course. Still love this place...when price is right
My son is home on leave from the Army,so we played the course. It was fun!
The golf experience at Gen Olds course was great. The course well maintained.Fairways wide, and the greens were great. The course employees were and staff were polite and helpful. I will play this course often.
Fairway is not maintained nicely.
I live not a far from this course but I would not go there and play golf often. The first reason that I do not want to be there is, they do not know how to greet to customers- starting from Kikki. The second, fairway is bad. Third, all the players that I played with the day said, Tee box areas are just about all very uneven-I thought the same. I select General Old Golf Course if there's no other similar choices.
The course has a great amount of history involved with not only the course but the surrounding land and the Air Force Base.
General Old CC has evolved from a private Air Force course to a challenging public course. The clubhouse has been remodeled and the food service and accommodations are top notch. The staff seem very helpful and knowledgeable.
The fairways are good, the greens are great although a bit slow, but the rough in many places needs improvement.
They have good carts and the course is marked well for yardage.
All in all a round there is a pleasant experience.
Playing with the Generals
Overall good course, fairways a little dry. Greens really slow, took some getting use to but everyone can make excusses for shooting bad some days. haha Last played this course about 8 years ago. Hasnt changed to much except theres no water in lakes. Some times thats a good thing. Lots of long holes. Plus the history of the course and it being next to a militay cemetery and myself being a Veteran as well.
Good Layout: Rough Around the Edges
I teed off at around 9:30 on a Sunday. Course conditions from tee to green were ok. The greens were good, but kept pretty wet due to the heat. Lots of fun holes and plenty of chances to hit driver.
