La Contenta Golf Club
About
Nestled in the heart of California Gold Country, La Contenta Golf Course wanders through the foothills of the Sierras. Being surrounded by beautiful mountains, the course feels peacefully secluded and enjoys stunning views, yet it is conveniently just a short drive from Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley. The layout sprawls across a diverse terrain that ranges from lush valleys to grassy meadows. With the up-and-down of the golf course, accuracy is a necessity, especially with large water features coming into play on a few holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers to contend with. One particularly memorable hole is the par-3 13th. This scenic hole tumbles down from a dramatic elevated tee. La Contenta Golf Course has been one of northern California's most popular public courses for more than three decades.

Super Course
While I have played this course for many years it is far enough from home to make it a special trip. The course is in very good condition with the exception of rather wet fairways. The greens were fast an smooth. My score would have been much better if I had been able to read the greens better and handle the speed. You don't want to be above the hole!
Beautiful course
Well maintained! Fast greens that aren't choppy like other courses in the tri-valley. Friendly staff and the course plays fast. Week days you'll get some great spacing between groups. Weekends are still well paced. Don't have to wait around between holes. One of the hidden gems in Northern California. Love this course!
Great time
My wife and I played Sunday. The pace of play was a bit slow, but other than that, no complaints. Fairways, Greens, and Tee Boxes were all in great shape. Enjoyed getting out of the Valley heat for some foothill golf! We will be back.
Nice changed
I played at la Contenta yesterday the course is in great shape, there were a few changes on the woman tee box and a few more fairways were open so we can drive to our ball, that make it easy for seniors and more women friendly. The staffs are very friendly, it's a fun day.
I will go back again soon.
slow play
3 5somes ahead of our 4 some. Had to wait for one more staff player to show up before we were allowed to tee off. over 3 hours for 9 holes. Quit playing on 15th hole and went home after 4.5 hours.
Not an easy course. That's what makes it so great.
Four-stars across the board, except for no breakfast served.
The course is looking much better.
I'm impressed with the improvement in the course condition however I don't expect it will remain so if you continue to allow the carts to drive up to and around the green as has been the case in recent years. Not sure of the new owners policy but several friends I have invited to play the course will no longer join me at La Contenta when we experience a slow down in play and then view sixsomes and fivesomes on the course. One last thing. Removing the available water containers on the course was not a wise or even a healthy move.
I have played golf there every Sunday for the last 12 years @ $ 32.00. we have a standing tee time at first light. They have a new management company now and they raised the rate to $50.00 because they say that it is a prime tee time, so unfortunately I will not be going up there any more.
The challenge pf a wet course
With all the rain, I understand that the course will play harder. The problem we had today was the greens were not mowed. I realize that they were sanded two weeks ago. However the greens were mowed last week and were playable. The fairway ruffs were extremely long and for the average golfer, they were extremely hard to hit out of. I'm sure as the weather warms up, these conditions will improve.
My understanding there will be some improvement to the course with the new management. Look forward to playing again.
Just Okay
The course has several trick holes and there no flat lies anywhere on the course, that includes the tee boxes.
The pro shop staff are border line rude!
Very Good Experience
Played a Sunday afternoon round. Pace was great: only encountered one twosome ahead of me, and they let me play through (2:45 round). Course is in really good shape, especially considering all of the rain that we have had this winter. 3 or 4 greens had recently been aerated, but all others were running true/fast. Nice mix of holes with both fades and draws required off of the tee on different holes. Will definitely return.
The fairway is drying out well and carts are now being aloud on some holes, 90 degree rule applies. Mowers were working 17&18 yesterday which have been really soggy overall the course is looking great.
very wet
course was in incredable shape for very wet conditions.
Really soggy
After all the rain balls plug and disappear. Cart path only 17 and 18 lot of standing water
