Nestled in the heart of California Gold Country, La Contenta Golf Course wanders through the foothills of the Sierras. Being surrounded by beautiful mountains, the course feels peacefully secluded and enjoys stunning views, yet it is conveniently just a short drive from Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley. The layout sprawls across a diverse terrain that ranges from lush valleys to grassy meadows. With the up-and-down of the golf course, accuracy is a necessity, especially with large water features coming into play on a few holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers to contend with. One particularly memorable hole is the par-3 13th. This scenic hole tumbles down from a dramatic elevated tee. La Contenta Golf Course has been one of northern California's most popular public courses for more than three decades.

Fun
This is a fun course. If you like uplifted holes or steep downhill shots it's a fun course to play. This is more of a shot placement course as opposed to a grip it and rip it course. The greens are tough to read. If you place your shots strategically you can score. The back 9 is much tougher than the front 9.
Nice course, just slow
Course was in pretty good condition, a little rough in some areas. Definately a course management / target course which was pretty cool. Pace was slow...we were a twosome behind a foursome, no marshall to be found to speed them up or encourage them to let us play through. 5.5 hour round.
excellent round for the price
This course was in good condition due to the water restrictions in California. Pace was fair as inwas playing with a newbie who kept up for the most part with the group in front of us. Will definitely recommend to a friend and even play again.
La Contenta
Course was in really good shape except for a couple greens that had some kind of grass damage to them, but other than that course was excellent.
Great course love playing here.
A scenic course with good pace of play. Greens were fair & course has enough challenging holes to not take a good score for granted. We loved the elevation changes & difficulty that presented us.
Average Course
Nothing Special about this place.
Greens were not in the best shape and the carts were on the older side.
Pace of play was great. Barely had to wait at all (finished my round in 3.5 hours).
Easy to lose balls, so make sure you bring enough.
Good Course
A good mix of simple and challenging holes to test your skills. Love the challenge this course presents.
Disappointed
Playing along just fine at moderate pace following group in front. First the marshal jammed a twosome in front of us on # 7 and we had to wait, Then the same marshal ruined our day on #12 by telling us to pick up the pace when we were less than 1/2 hole back of the group in front of us. Clubhouse response was luke warm. Played the course many times. Now looking to play elsewhere. Be careful!

Challenging course
Don't understand why golf course would let 5 player play together and followed by 6 players play together and we had to follow this. Made the round 5 1/2hr round, ridiculous. What happened to fast pace golf, I guess this golf course doesn't believe in it.

MY WIFE AND I PLAY HERE QUITE OFTEN, WE LOVE IT. WE CAN NOT WAIT FOR SPRING WHEN EVERYTHING IS GREEN. SEE YOU SOON
Great value
Good value, pace of play great no waiting, weather was overcast and course suffered, very wet. Greens had a lot of debris on them and they were rough. I will be back on a sunny day.
Sunshine
When it's foggy in the valley or not this is a fun course to play.
Wet
Decent course for the price. Pace is a little slow. The course needs better drainage. It's really muddy in spots.

course was muddy in many areas and the balls often plugged if off the fairway but that was expected with the recent rains. greens were in decent shape.
Great day on the course.
We got a great deal and our threesome played in under 4 hours. Staff was super friendly and course was in good condition. Will be back for sure.
Nice Round -
Found a great rate to play because of aerification, but the greens were no less than great! A little sand, but they rolled true and were FAST. A very nice foothill layout with just a couple of quirky holes, but all were fun to play. With a couple of truly 'big boy' holes, overall the course is well balanced for all levels of play. Now is the time to get a round in before the winter rain sets in...looks good!
La Contenta needs a lot of work!
Greens & fairways in very poor shape due to pig damage & drought. Use of reclaimed water is good but large water hazards full of it on many holes are unsightly & smell very bad, like playing in sewage facility. Numerous uphill approach to greens which blind with no direction markers. Almost no distance markers on course so need person GPS to play.
Sandwiches from restaurant were horrible. Cart girl, service was highlight of day.
Very difficult to get to & in the middle of no where!
Just okay.
Course is fun, greens were fast but needed repair. Pace was great. 45 to much for a Friday for this course, needs to be priced under 30. There is no range and had a poor putting green. Water in ponds was green and putrid.

It's not up to the course how fast a group moves, and it is because it is not a private course. One thing you could have possibly done was ask to play through. I am on the golf team and we play there every day. We get stuck behind groups like this all the time but we have to wait so I am used to it but I can understand your frustration on this. I truly hope that you come play the course again sometime soon. :)
