La Contenta Golf Club
About
Nestled in the heart of California Gold Country, La Contenta Golf Course wanders through the foothills of the Sierras. Being surrounded by beautiful mountains, the course feels peacefully secluded and enjoys stunning views, yet it is conveniently just a short drive from Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley. The layout sprawls across a diverse terrain that ranges from lush valleys to grassy meadows. With the up-and-down of the golf course, accuracy is a necessity, especially with large water features coming into play on a few holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers to contend with. One particularly memorable hole is the par-3 13th. This scenic hole tumbles down from a dramatic elevated tee. La Contenta Golf Course has been one of northern California's most popular public courses for more than three decades.

If you have 5+ hours to play this is your course
Granted you get what you pay for but this course is not in great condition and they tolerate the locals to play at an amazingly slow pace. The marshals are useless! I wouldn't waste my money! I don't need to play at even a 3.5 hour pace but 5+ is not enjoyable to me!
Ball placement is key to score
Ball placement is the key to score in this course. You may need to sacrifice distance to get a good lie to setup for your second shot.
Best course for the money.
One of my favorite courses. Definitely worth the one hour drive. A few dry spots on three or four greens but not bad for the middle of summer. Great fairways and good condition overall
Course pretty challenging
WE visited this course for the first time. We were surprised by how busy they were on a Friday. Great weather though, so it made sense. The first hole was not challenging so we thought we will be done with this course quickly. We were wrong. 2nd hole a par 3 over water, not too bad, got a birdie. 3rd hole we started to think this was going to be a long day, as the tee box looked uphill 190 yards then once we got to the top saw that it went straight down to the hole another 225 yards. From there the course got much more challenging. From hills, blind shots, and some water that seemed to carry for a long distance, it was one great course that I would recommend a skilled straight shooter golfer to play.
great course
Love this course!! Has challenges but is also forgiving.
Beautiful Layout
I played this course 10+ years ago and remembered it fondly. Challenging yet approachable. The greens needed a little work this time but overall just as fun as i remembered. My 12yr old son and I had a terrific time.
FYI the drive from Sac is not as bad as it may seem on the map.
Course is in pretty good shape like the layout
Some of the tee boxes could use some maintenance. There is no practice range. At no fault to the course but common people fix ball marks. Their greens are nice and roll well but when you have to fix ball marks every hole from someone else it's just not that fun. But overall nice course great pace of play durin the week and it challenges the shotmakong
Slowest round ever
Played Sunday afternoon and was the slowest round I have ever played. Each tee box had a minimum of 2 groups waiting, it took so long we were only able to play 9 holes. The course has a very fun layout though, I have played it many times a few years ago but it seems as if they are letting it go. Greens are nothing like they used to be, lots of dead spots yet very wet. I wish they would take better care of this course like they used to, one of the most fun layouts around.
fun course
starting off the morning we were greeted by the starter he was friendly and showed us around the course since this was the first time we ever played this course one thing I didn't like was there is no driving range there's nets that you could warm up into but you can't really tell which way your ball flight is going now on to the course there is a lot of blind shots and a lot of elevation changes that makes it hard for a first time player to this course other than that it was a great day course is well maintained and staff is very friendly
Very fun day of golf
Elevation changes made the course a lot of fun to play, but i recommend playing your first round here with someone that has played here before, there are a couple blind tee shots that only someone that had previously played will know the best way to play. Luckily I had a local in my foursome.
A course we always want to play!
We live an hour from La Contenta, but try to play the course at least twice a month.
The greens are quick; the fairways somewhat challenging. A couple of holes are just out to get you! ha Try hole #12 for instance. The green is on an incline and just difficult no matter where the pin. See how you can do.
It's a great place to try your best. Hilly but plenty of shade for these hot summer days.
Mostly above a fair rate of play though you will get some golfers who just don't know etiquette. And that's wherever you go. Overall, one of our favorites.
Fun course, resort style, come for fun
The course has a variety of holes and will challenge you with some amazing shots. There are some very short par 4s I played the white tees and some really good par 3s. All par 5s are reachable except 18. The greens are pretty true but play more break than you think. I played in 100+ weather but really enjoyed the afternoon, finally caught up to somebody on 17. Water coolers were full, the one odd thing was ball washers, many missing altogether and none had towels. The overall value was unbelievable, under $25 on a weekend!!!
I can't wait to play again, one more thing each time I go here the staff is very friendly.
Nice course, friendly staff
Course in very good condition. Fun layout in rolling terrain. Greens in good shape and consistent.
this courseneeds a whole lot of care 1)tee boxes are awful 2)sand traps what sand?3) mowers were cutting all around us whilewe were teeing off
my summary is enough I don't think you want show this but its the truth even the employees complined!!!
Holes 12 and 13 are definitely signature holes
I have golfed this course several times and find it a test of skill. Holes 12 and 13 are worth the price of admission alone. The fairways and greens are in great shape. The greens do have some deceptive slopes which make them hard to read and equally hard to putt. The facilities are first rate and the view of the number one fairway from the club house is fantastic. La Contenta should be a must course on your bucket list.
Fivesomes should not be allowed.
Very interesting terrain and fun to play, will do it again.
Great value, lots of elevation change.
Course in nice shape overall. Had to get used to no yardage stakes, tried to abide by 90 degree rule, but had to remember to watch for yardage markers in middle of fairway.
Enjoyed the challenges of this course
This is a very challenging course, with the up and down through the hills and a few blind shots for tee off or second shots. The greens could use some work, or just teach more people how to repair ball marks. This was my first time playing this course, and their are alot of locals, this course it through a housing develpment, playing. The marshalls could have been a little better on enforcing the rules with the carts. The locals, easy to tell, they all have personal electric carts, seem to think they can go anywhere, including right next to the greens. All in all it was a nice course and I will be back in the future when visiting my friends.
Great scenery and wildlife but too many Canadian Geese.
The course and surroundings were very pretty. We saw some interesting wildlife, although there were way too many Canadian Geese! Droppings were everywhere, unfortunately. The course is "interesting" with many varied holes but for an "old lady" like me, it was too much. It wore me down trying to manage the too steep slopes on too many holes. I still recommend the course, just not for me. For other golfers I think the course would be interesting and challenging in a beautiful setting. The staff was extra nice and helpful. My husband and I were paired with two delightful young men it was a pleasure to play with.
