La Contenta Golf Club
About
Nestled in the heart of California Gold Country, La Contenta Golf Course wanders through the foothills of the Sierras. Being surrounded by beautiful mountains, the course feels peacefully secluded and enjoys stunning views, yet it is conveniently just a short drive from Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley. The layout sprawls across a diverse terrain that ranges from lush valleys to grassy meadows. With the up-and-down of the golf course, accuracy is a necessity, especially with large water features coming into play on a few holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers to contend with. One particularly memorable hole is the par-3 13th. This scenic hole tumbles down from a dramatic elevated tee. La Contenta Golf Course has been one of northern California's most popular public courses for more than three decades.

Good condition
The friendly staff allowed us to start 20 minutes early which was great. I like the course as it rewards good shots but can also bite you if not careful. The course conditions were pretty good aside from the abudance of goose droppings around the greens. I'd go back for the same price. ($28.95)
Excellent value! Greens, tee boxes and fairways are super.
Course offers a very pleasant visual experience in a foothill setting. All playable areas of course well maintained. Greens smooth, fast and challenging. Goose droppings only negative, but who can blame a goose for liking green grass and abundant water?
Spring Gold in the Foothills!
This time of year it is green in the foothills, cool weahter, and very nice course. Enjoyed playing this course, although the many homes along the course were a bit distracting. Nice clubhouse and bar, will come back here for sure!
Great course to play again
I really enjoyed the course. I got there early as it is an hour from my home. and the Staff was more than willing to let me tee of early. Very nice course and the regular golfers there were more than willing to tell me about the course as we played.
A variety of holes which adds to the value of the course.
Usually play here once a year as it is 1 hr. plus from my home.
But the course was in very good condition. Greens were fast, fairways well kept. Some the of the tee boxes were a little "ratty", to the point we would hit about 8-12 ft behind the actual markers where there was good footing. Had a friend who had never played the course and he really enjoyed it as well as myself.
This course can test you
Besides the heavy wind, the course was in good condition. Some tee boxes need attention. What I mean is add some grass seed and maybe flatten a few of them again. The greens were in fairly good shape and things moved pretty quickly. I will be back!!!
Lots of up and down hills some could not see the grees from the tee.
Very green with several chalenging holes, but a lot of fun. Plan on 10+ shots per round your 1st time out.
Lots of character, above average greens, and inexpensive.
This course is a hidden gem! It has it all: Flat holes, hilly holes, open fairways, narrow fairways, long holes, short holes, and their greens are in great shape, especially for this time of year. And, you can't beat the price! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our cart died on the 3rd hole, and they were there with a replacement so fast that we didn't have to let the group behind us play through. Only 2 minor complaints: Some of the tee boxes could use some maintenance, and why do some people build their homes 20 yards off the fairway? But overall, La Contenta is a must play course!
Challenging but slow.
This course is in good shape. It has lots of blind shots so course knowledge is key. My round played slow because they allowed a 5some in front of us and I saw a 6some out there too which wasn't cool. Slow play for a week day but challenging course.
Pretty challenging but nice. Very scenic and well maintained. Play with someone who is familiar with the course since there are several blind shots.
Score card of holes is not very clear if you are not familiar with the course.
Perfect day for golf.
Couple of things that could have been better. Sunday afternoon with full golf course beverage cart should have been out. Having played this course for years it was disappointing to see carts in restricted areas driven by perfectly able bodied golfers. There was plenty of staff in club house and restaurant, but not on the course. Would have liked to see a players assistant to keep people out of those areas and to speed up play.
Great Layout
Slow play is the only problem, great views, too many blind shots uphill that can be discouraging
Fun Foothills course
The course was in good shape for early spring conditions and with the surrounding hills all a spring green it was truly beautiful. The greens were very quick which made for some treacherous putts if the ball was above the hole. The 18th is a sharp dogleg left with water about 30 yards short of the green on the approach shot which makes it one of the most challenging closing par fours in the area.
Great variety on one of my favorite courses.
This course has everything: a couple of billygoat hill holes, a blind tee shot, and parallel holes where you can slice it to San Diego but have a decent shot from the parallel fairway. When you reach the green, you find it is quite good for a heavily used, popular public course. I am a very short hitter but am capable of reaching everything in regulation. But I have to get there over water, sand, and very slippery greens. Its slightly difficult slope of 128 is justified, but it is so much fun, I shoot some of my best scores here.
FAST!
Greens were lightning fast downhill, a bit chewed in places even from soft spikes. Great value overall, not difficult. BUT, lots of blind shots! I suggest using google maps to get the layout when you can't see from the tee!
Nice Views Course Worth Visiting
Always like to play different courses, try not to play the same one twice in a row. La Contenta is one of my favorites. A little drive but look for the deals that make it worth it. I like this course because it has a lot of challenging holes, have to lay up on some holes to have a nice shot in for your second. Stay in the fairway or trees can make your next shot a punch back into the fairway. The course was in pretty good shape overall. They had five holes that you could not drive onto because they had some rain a few days before. You could walk out there with good footing, just didn't want the carts making grooves. They looked like they were going to redo the tee areas and had a couple of temporary tee boxes that were a little wet. Greens were in good shape except for the ball marks that players seem to ignore or maybe they just don't know how to fix them. Overall being as it is winter the course was great to play.
Challenging Course. Good Bargain
The staff was freindly and professional. The course was in great condition for winter conditions. Never a boring hole. Some holes require local knowledge or a preview before hitting your driver. Lots of fun.
Fun course to play
Hilly courses are always a little tough to play if you don't play them regularly. However, this is a great little track where you will use every club in your bag. Not exceptionally long but challenging requiring well placed tee shots on most holes. The greens are in excellent conditons and very fast (except for some damage on one par 3 that day). Better be in good shape if your going to walk it!
course in good shape. greens needed a little help but overall smooth.
great course for the money. 20 bucks with cart. great day!
