La Contenta Golf Club

Our twosome completed our round in just under 4 hours. It was about 100 degrees with a little breeze. There were several water stations in addition we brought our own. The fairways were well kept with few unrepaired divots. The only negative was a couple of greens need bare spots repaired or reseeded. This course is about two hours from home but I enjoy playing it a couple of times a year.

I have never written this kind of a golf review in my 28 years plus golfing but I felt like I should now. I read a 1/5 star review written 4 months ago . I am sure I played on the same day or one or two days before this player. He appeared to be a one of those guys who is never satisfied in any circumstances. Obviously he was a first time player here and out-of-town player but not too far and just looking for a cheap fees. He even embarrassed his buddy with a constant cursing. My wife just pretended not hearing him.

Here’s my review. 1. Greens were unduly but fast that give the players more challenging and fun. There were some divots that some players didn’t repair. Tee boxes were not in the best shape but the staff moved the markers around. Just observe the rule. Fairways had some spots yes. Bunkers were not in the best shape due to recent rain and rather shallow. Now, the pace of the play. Three of us finished the round, starting at 11:50 a. m in 3 hours 21 minutes. Three holes behind us, there appeared to be some elderly or disabled foursome playing and they seemed to be playing slow but not too bad. Perhaps this guy was following them. He could have asked to play through or skip a hole.

Now, driving. I drive 67 miles one way to play here when they have good deal. At 85 years old with pension and social security, $39 is all my wife and I can afford.

My humble message to this kind of unethical players is that, “Please stay away from this La Contentaso that we may enjoy better. Thanks. .”

Money well spent on this gem of a course. Very good value for the money, especially on the weekend.

If you play for the first time, better to play with someone who play there before some blind shots in couple holes that can affect score, the pace of play on weekends can be really poor 5.5 hours ,it is a nice course that requires accurate shots

Course beautifully maintained, challenging but fair, love playing there.

Greens are rolling very nicely, and fairway are in great shape , if only I could keep my golf ball there. The New golf carts are a great addition and the staff is very friendly.

The course layout was a little strange. For example on the first hole all three players in the group I was in played our second shots towards what we thought was the first green, it wasn't. It was the green for the second hole. This is a must ride course as there are many variations in elevation. The greens were in need of some repair as it seemed almost every one had patches of turf missing.

Staff was very friendly. I was supposed to play with a threesome, but they had four people. They let me play with them. Really nice group of guys. We waited on most of the holes, play was slow. I stopped playing after nine holes.

La Contenta is one of my favorite courses in the Gold Country

Each time I play this course I love it more. Great location, makes me want to buy a house on the golf course. Staff is great and bloody Mary’s are delicious. The locals hanging out at the bar afterwards are the most friendly down to earth people. Kinda like a “cheers” vibe.
