La Contenta Golf Club
About
Nestled in the heart of California Gold Country, La Contenta Golf Course wanders through the foothills of the Sierras. Being surrounded by beautiful mountains, the course feels peacefully secluded and enjoys stunning views, yet it is conveniently just a short drive from Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley. The layout sprawls across a diverse terrain that ranges from lush valleys to grassy meadows. With the up-and-down of the golf course, accuracy is a necessity, especially with large water features coming into play on a few holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers to contend with. One particularly memorable hole is the par-3 13th. This scenic hole tumbles down from a dramatic elevated tee. La Contenta Golf Course has been one of northern California's most popular public courses for more than three decades.

Course needs work
The greens don’t roll true. Bumpy and a lot of marks everywhere. The fairways are in decent condition, but the lie around the green is so inconsistent. Patches everywhere of weeds. The sand bunkers are like and uncomfortable beach thy one wouldn’t feel comfortable taking there shoes off in. Very rocky, filled with rock pebbles sure to scratch your clubs. And on every hole the bunkers are absolutely horrific. The tee boxes are uneven, and jam packed with old divots not grown out. Staff is friendly and the bar is really nice. Over all I’d say this course is a 1/5 but only because of the conditions. The pace of play was bad (4 hour and 30 minute round) and the parking lot wasn’t even half full. You’ve got good ole boys out there playing like they are PGA pros taking 20 minutes a hole. I will say that the views on this course are nice and the weather was really good. No driving range and very small putting green. If your wanting to travel somewhere to play I’d say don’t drive more than 20 miles to play here or you’ll be disappointed. I guess 30$ makes sense for here.
To Slow
Had to wait 10 minutes at each hole making a long and miserable day
Not on Par
Played here a few times but today was not a good day. We were all bunch up at the start and was waiting on every hole. Took us an hour to play 3 holes which is ridiculous. We finished in 5.5 hours. Crazy. The greens were awful. Pitch marks not being fixed and bumps all over the green. I had to putt through all this the entire round. The fairways were decent and the course layout itself is great. It’s due for aerification coming up so hopefully the greens will be better. Staff were nice.
Played the course for the first time on Feb. 9th. The course has a great mixture of elevation, movement and trouble ! Be prepared to use your stinger, punch and flop shots as the course designer will challenge you to be accurate and creative on at least every other hole (every hole if you dont stay in the middle of the fairway !). As the hill holes can be diabolical at times, the vistas are soothing and will remind you why golf is such a fun/challenging game. Use the yardage sheet and know your carry number on each club. I plan to be back and will be bringing my golf buddies to La Contenta to enjoy this fun course as well.
Just fantastic everything today!
Staff let us start early thanks to less players on the course. Perfect weather and some cool breeze stroking my face made the game just fantastic. Completed the twosome round in 3 hrs and 15 minutes. We had this record time for us only in Atlanta Georgia some 25 years ago when I didn’t have much white hair. Two birdies and almost three more made me feel a lot younger myself. Thanks again the pro shop friend who has been always courteous and friendly. Just a wonderful day of a rounding.
Needs help
I love playing at this course but my most recent round was absolutely terrible. The fact that they have multiple days that they do scrambles and never tell anyone or block out times causes huge backup issues. All day yesterday I was fighting for some kind of pace of play. I would say about 85% of my time was waiting just to have enough room for me to hit my shot. The shortest weight that I had was 5-6minutes and the longest wait I had was well over 15 minutes just to hit my next shot. The course Marshalls never helped or tried to aid to the pace of play it would just go out there and end up talking to everyone causing slower pace of play times for other groups
Perfect course in this kind of season.
Perfect winter weather in the upper 50’s with a little chilly atmosphere. Always friendly and courteous pro shop staff. Some wet spots still and the pace of the play was a bit slow due to some slow players. Still the beautiful scenery and the course layout makes it worth to drive up here 65 miles one way.
NW. Joker
This course has great Landscaped fairways and greens.
not impressed
I get that it's winter conditions but seriously, the bare spots on the tees and greens just doesn't make sense. There are areas on the greens that obviously no attempt has been made to improve or repair the damage or to overseed the tees boxes where grass is dead. Just disappointing to tee off on bumpy tee boxes and play on greens with unnecessary damage.
Interesting
Fun, interesting course. Some hard holes in the back 9 that made it fun. Great customer service!
Great Track
I love the layout at this course. Placement ball is what it has become in my old age. Can't keep up with the long hitters, so a shorter course like this gives me more of an advantage. The fairways were not great but it is the season. i thought the greens were slow as well but ran true. Pace of play was a little slow but we finished in 4 and half.
GolfNow staff created a mega problem.
GolfNow staff booked the tee time for us when the other course rained out. It should have been a simple task but two staff members made it mega problems because both of them didn’t do it right. I had to waste my time for 65 minutes, lost the reserved tee times, lost my face to my guest and above all my dignity and temper.
After 1 hour and 15 minutes late and paid the green fees again but at the higher price, we barely completed the 18 holes after the sunset. However, the course and the weather was great for the game. The staff member, John, watched the whole show and admired my patience with the GolfNow staff who even lied about his supervisor being sick with the COVID-19! GolfNow should offer a better training of the staff in customer relations.
