La Contenta Golf Club
About
Nestled in the heart of California Gold Country, La Contenta Golf Course wanders through the foothills of the Sierras. Being surrounded by beautiful mountains, the course feels peacefully secluded and enjoys stunning views, yet it is conveniently just a short drive from Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley. The layout sprawls across a diverse terrain that ranges from lush valleys to grassy meadows. With the up-and-down of the golf course, accuracy is a necessity, especially with large water features coming into play on a few holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers to contend with. One particularly memorable hole is the par-3 13th. This scenic hole tumbles down from a dramatic elevated tee. La Contenta Golf Course has been one of northern California's most popular public courses for more than three decades.

Great day La Contenta!
La Contenta never disappoints, from check in, the course and the restaurant & bar, the staff does a great job.
La Contenta is one of my favorite places to play.
Challenging Fun Course
Nice course in good condition. A lot of up and down elevation changes, often leading to blind hits. This course would be difficult to walk. Don't let the short overall yardage stop you from plying. The holes may be short but they can be a challenge play to any skill level.
Interesting lay out
Not your traditional course, definitely not driver on most holes because of trees, dog legs...etc, so the first time you play it is definitely tricky. I'm looking forward to playing it again, but not sure it's worth a long drive if you live far away.
La Contenta
Bumpy greens due to unfixed ball marks and bald fungus spots ... wet long rough ... slow play (course marshal not speaking to groups to play faster, golfing locals not thrilled that non-Valley Springs residents are playing on “their course” ... and golfers not playing ‘ready golf’). Five hour round of which 1.5 hours was waiting for the group of two in front of us).
Advice, play twilight when all the local elders / golfers have gone home for a nap.
La Contenta Golf Course
Golfed on a Wednesday at noon. Fairways were in good shape, rough was fair. Greens were below average due to their being bumpy because people weren’t fixing ball marks.
Play was very slow. A course ranger came through yet didn’t speak to a group of locals that were playing very very slow.
My advice would be to play twilight hours in order to avoid the elderly golfing locals living around the course that play slowly from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. Round of 18 holes took five (5) hours, one and a half of which was spent waiting and watching two locals duff their way around the course. How did we know they were locals, they told us so when they confronted us and said, “Hey guys, we live around here. You guys need to take a breath and quit hitting until we clear the hole.”
This course gets packed
6 hour round...Course packed with looked like beginners...Saw the Marshal drive by once and never said a word to players about pace of play!!!...Heard from other groups this is a normal round.
Different with unusual topography
Interesting course, but best played in warmer conditions. Soggy fairways make it challenging.
