Coyote Hills - A Gem of a course
This place is amazing. The course is meticulously maintained, with pristine fairways and greens. The fairways are narrow on some holes but that makes this one more challenging than your average LA course. And Yes it costs over $100 per round but it is well worth the cost. Fast pace, lots of elevation changes making for some really fun holes, narrow fairways on the front 9, pristine greens, awesome bevs/snacks/proshop and a nice range. This is by far my favorite course within 45 mins from the west side of LA. Highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenge and appreciates a well maintained course.
Course in fast condition
I haven’t played this course in years- but it is still a challenging but fair test. Only 2 Par 5’s- but accuracy is demanded throughout the course.
They didn’t advertise that they had just punched the greens- but they rolled pretty true anyway. Bunkers were nice with perfect sand.
Had my 2nd Hole-in-one on hole #8- 200 yards from the black tees. Made the day very special !!!
No aerification alert on Golf now
Course is great most days. The lack of aerification alert on Golf now led for a bumpy and sandy surprise on the greens!
Course conditions
This course is fun to play but it’s definitely not worth $150. Not even $100. That’s kinda outrageous when I’ve been to courses that I’ve paid $60-$70 that are in much more better shape. The bunkers are like hitting off of cement. The fairways are rock hard dirt with super short grass and hard on impact. It’s a decent 6 out of 10 course. Again, I’ve played cheaper courses with WAY better conditions than this. $150 tee times and up is not worth this at all. They need to be reasonable for the conditions this course is in. That’s pure greed.
Beautiful Course
Playing this course for the first time, I was thinking how beautiful this course is. pace of play was okay until we caught up a 2-some on the back nine. Maybe this was due to the fact, that it was cart path only due to previous day rain, and the 2-some was spraying it away from the cart path. LoL, I enjoyed the scenic views and would play this again.
Bring Extra Balls
I’m around a +23, and I probably won’t be back for a while unless I can get three other friends who want to play from the whites.
I lost too many balls from the blues. I was kind of wondering why the course was so short from the whites, but now I understand.
If you can’t consistently carry 175-200 off the tee AND hit it straight, this place might not be for you.
In saying that, it’s a gorgeous course. Rained maybe two or three days ago, and several of the holes were cart path only… both par fives were pretty swampy, so that’s a drag.
The Course promisses more than it’s worth
Driving range closed, too much fairways not drivable with cart, very slow players on the course and no marshals
High expectations. Meh quality.
Coyote Hills is an amazing asset nestled in the hills contouring the Fullerton oil fields. With that said, the course quality just isn’t there. For a course that has so many tangible opportunities to provide a fantastic golf experience, it hits sub standard results in execution.
1. The area around the greens need over seeding. Bare dirt is unacceptable and I had to move my ball on almost every hole that I missed the green to find actual grass.
2. The fairways don’t have enough grass either. Coyote Hills is challenging because missing the fairway usually means losing a golf ball, so you should be equally rewarded when hitting the fairway. There just isn’t enough grass to provide a decent lie, so you are basically hitting from a tight lie made up of compacted dirt.
3. Absolutely no water coolers on the course. None. Which is a physical representation of the service quality from staff. Besides Brian at the starter box. He was delight!
4. The last point is because of what they used to offer. Because of so many blind tee shots, you have to double check before you tee off. The carts in front of you used to be tracked on the cart monitor. That is not available anymore and unfortunately the greatness of Coyote “Hills” becomes a liability because there is not enough mitigation of risk.
This will probably be the last time I play Coyote Hills. For $100 per player, that premium comes with a certain expectation, and Coyote Hills simply doesn’t meet that anymore.
Fun course
I enjoyed the layout of the course a lot. Different elevations and plentiful bunkers keeps you on your toes, without making it too challenging. Course was in good condition, no complaints at all on that front. Stoked to get back out there in the future
Great layout and value
Played first thing in the morning pace of play was fantastic.
Layout is great and some holes very tight.
Was still wet which is understandable due to severe rainfall.
Senior rate was much appreciated.
Will play again!
A fine course , good challenges
Coyote Hills is a fine place to play, with many different golfing challenges. The rolling greens were in very good condition - much appreciated. I look forward to returning soon. Coyote may even become my new membership commitment,
DELIVERS EVERY TIME
Had a 12:15pm tee time on a Sunday that had heavy rain forecasted for 3pm that day. I showed up 40 minutes before the tee time and had the pro shop give me the green light to head out to the first tee on my own. With almost no one on the course, it was a great experience and was able to have a fun round that was done in 3 hours (cart path only but was expected for the course conditions).
The layout is average length but a tight one, so accuracy is a must! There are also numerous elevation changes and natural hazards and obstacles to overcome, making it a target golf-like experience. The greens have been better maintained than in prior months as well, so the roles were true and quick despite the wetter conditions.
For the price, you really can't go wrong with booking a tee time at Coyote Hills. If you are an average to above average golfer that can keep it close to the fairway. Would definitely return!
Such a fine course
I enjoy golfing here - - just such a fine course in very good condition, and with plenty of great golfing challenges. You need every kind of stroke in your bag!
