good for the money
Greens are night and day better than they used to be. Fairways and rough (weeds, dandelions) still have a ways to go, but you can't beat it for the money.
Decent public course
The course has a few holes that are under construction which makes some of the greens very frustrating to putt on. They were taking donations on one of the par three holes, and when I asked what does the donation go towards she said sod and turf for the course.
On the rise great greens
Great views Greens in great shape. Fairways getting there. Would play again.
On the rise!
Royal Oaks is on the rise. Very friendly staff, course is in good shape and getting better. Great bargain for the money. Great move to the "old" clubhouse.
Diamond in the rough
This course is a diamond in the rough. There are some iffy spots in the fairway but have been addressed with aeration and overseeding. In six months this course should be in great condition. The greens were slow in comparison to other courses in the area but they were in good condition. The owners have moved the pro shop and carts back to the old clubhouse. I would play this course again.
18 hole economical course.
Although the course is still under construction. The greens are getting into shape. The fairway grass is coming on slow. Close central location to Maryville/ Alcoa for $20.00
poor conditions warning
I played with out-of-town guest and was embarrassed to bring him to this course. Very poor conditions. I must have played a different course from the other recent reviews on this site!! A few greens had recent water lines ditched around perimeter of green and the backfill was not leveled and was full of rocks. Some greens were OK - but some were very poor - very inconsistent. Weeds overgrown. Course needs work. I do not know how they can justify charging the regular full rate greens fees for the current conditions. We even had to play thru a "golfer" hitting practice balls off the 10th tee and then hunt to find our own ball!!
royal oaks
Greens were great except of one... Some construction going on the course..
Excellent Course in the Knox Area
One of my favorite courses in Knoxville by a long shot. It's a challenging public course that has very little forgiveness if you miss your shot. The greens are in pretty good shape and roll true to what you're seeing.
Getting there
Course is undergoing renovations. Getting better and organization will come. Course is great to play as always.
Great Value Near The Smokies
Tucked away in Maryville is a great golf course for the money! Terrific views of the Smokies as well as some challenging holes for any level golfer. Looks like some work is being done on course and this should increase the overall experience of play. Course can play slow at times but still definitely a must play!
Not bad for the money.
Overall good experience considering the time of year and weather conditions that made the course a bit sloppy.
Royal Oaks Maryville TN
Good course, but the layout can be confusing. The club house was moved and so the course layout was changed. This made it a little hard to follow. I paired with someone who had played there before and that made things much easier.
Still it was a good day for golf.
Great value, but some funky aspects of course
This was a great value from GolfNow. However, there are some aspects of this course that are strange. It seems there is never a flat lie on the course even for good shots in the middle of the fairway. We lost some balls (I know it is fall) that were hit right down the middle but found their way either under a leaf, a hole or trickled off the fairway. Hole 17 is a ridiculous hole, even shots down the middle are penalized. Some holes you can have a extreme uphill or downhill lie after hitting a good drive. So knowledge of the course and where to hit will greatly improve your score
Need a ranger
I really like this golf however I think they would be well served if they had a ranger. I waited on every shot behind a group that was holes behind the group in front of them. They were hitting multiple shots each and playing extremely slowly. After a few holes several groups behind me were also being held up. A ranger would help alleviate this type of I issue . Also, they were aerating the greens and 2 of them were completely closed. They made no mention of this in the pro shop and there was no symbol in the golf now site so I was surprised by this. Otherwise, this is a nice course and a terrific value.
Undergoing Major changes - looks promising for the future
It was a surprise to arrive and discover there is a new clubhouse (actually as I understand it, it's the original) and, to accommodate that change, the starting and finishing holes have been changed. I also understand this set up is the original as well. I've now seen three different set ups and hope this is the last change for a while. The staff is very friendly - in spite of the fact we caught them on their "moving" day. There is a lot of work going on and it appears they are determined to get the course back to it's great shape. If the patrons would cooperate by repairing their ball marks on what were always great greens, it would be a big help! I'll go back - I'd like to see them succeed, they really try.
Love hole #18 and the up up and down hill holes.
Not much a club house but a very nice course and
friendly staff.
Could be better
There was no practice range; only a net you could hit balls into. Greens were in good shape. It just didn't look as nice as it could have (e.g. grass clumps on the tee boxes, grass clumps all over the course really).
Royal was in excellent condition. The greens were in very good shape.
We played Royal Oaks several years ago and were not impressed. This time we were really pleased with the great condition of the course. Looking forward to another opportunity to play there.
