Fair
Excellent greens, true fair and fast.
Pace of play was excellent in about 4 hours. Wind was a factor in club selection. Some water but not in abondance. Fair layout with some challenge.
A good day of golf under the sun but nothing to remember.
Challenging Course
Very good course with great practice facilities. Fairways were well kept and, even though there was no recent rain, were soft and offered very little roll. I would have preferred them firmer. Greens were firm and fast true though. Was a good course for the $$.
Nice course
This is a nice course that is challenging for all levels of golfers. I wouldn't recommend this course for high handicap or beginners as it can be difficult.
I played on the Sunday after Christmas, the fairways and tee boxes had not been cut so they were a bit shaggy.. In hindsight I wouldn't have scheduled the tee time on that particular day as it makes sense that the ground crew had a well deserved day off. I have played the Mustang course and it was in great shape on a "normal" day.
My only real complaint is that the bunkers are very inconsistent with some having too much sand and others too little sand. All of the bunkers I was in had many stones which were revealed when you rakes out your tracks(I may have been one of the few to actually rake them)!
Lely is a nice place and the staff were all very polite and helpful!
Condition poor
Played Flamingo a few times over the years... it's always in some state of poor condition... and expensive for what you get.
The course was soaking wet... the fairways had recently been over seeded... the fairways were 2" long and the green slow.
Cart path only ruling was not fun.
Could be Great.... but is just ok
For some reason this course drains poorly. You can’t attack irons like I normally like to. Ended up chunking irons early then thinning to compensate later in the day which is fine but each fairway was different. One may have been just fine, the next mud all over the ball.
You can tell they are gearing up for the prime season and not using normal hole locations where greens naturally funnel or where I’ve seen pins placed before are almost being avoiding as to keep those areas of greens absolutely perfect. While I understand, there were 2 holes where the pin was 3 or less paces off the brim of green. Making extremely awkward putts and leaves from approach shots. Bunkers were nice but feel how much sand are in each all are not the same.
All in all I enjoy the layout of this course more than anything they could bring even more water into play if they wanted to as my skills improve I realize layout is more so an aesthetic not challenging.
I understand the classic is their baby(and I’ll never get on it) but, if they would give flamingo even as much time as they give mustang it would be the best course in area or top 3
Fun layout
Greens were great. Fairway grass a bit longer than normal
Lely Flamingo
Course condition was not great, except greens were good. Shame, because the design is one of my all-time favorites.
Disappointing return after several years
The course was in rough shape. Several fairways need work. Greens were fast, but again, several had large patches of sand. Rough was all dried grass, although fairways were wet. My biggest concern was the pro shop. First, they over charged me. When I pointed this out they were quick to fix the issue. Then, although I paid for all 4 players, when 2 players arrived later they were charged. One of them was overcharged and he had to correct the pro shop staff. Then I had to go back to pro shop and have the 2 extra payments returned. Head pro was at the register and was rude. "I didn't make this mistake", he correctly said, But, his staff did. I think 4 over charges on what should have been 4 transactions (max) shows sloppy business practices at best, maybe shady practices at worst. I'd stay away. The course wasn't in that good of shape and the staff was incompetent and then rude.
Greens in great shape
Course pretty soggy. Must be watering a lot. More mosquitos than usual
Greens in excellent shape. Rolled very nicely
I like the hole variety at flamingo. Fun course
Not a Great Course
I’ve played Mustang a few times and tons of courses throughout Naples. My golfing partner said last time he played Flamingo that it was in bad shape so we figured we’d take another shot at it in case it happened to be a one time thing. However, we were disappointed this time. The fairways were mostly all wet even though it hasn’t rained here in over a week. The greens were recently dressed and did not roll well or hold many balls on the green. The layout of the course is fun and the staff is friendly but the course conditions are some of the worst I’ve seen in Naples. If you’re wanting to play Lely, spend the extra $20 and go to Mustang. Don’t waste your time on Flamingo.
Fun course
Typical Robert Trent Jones Jr course. Lot of sand in landing areas and around greens. Fair amount of water but easy to avoid if you control your shots greens are a bit fast but fair
Nice driving range chipping and putting green
