Return to Lely
I have played Lely before, 2 years ago. The greens were good, but the overall standard of the course was not as it used to be.
I think there are other courses that offer better value for money.
Lely Flamingo
NIce course - greens had been punched not too long ago so they were a little bit rough, but overall very good conditions. The course is nice...played the green tees and not too hard from there but again, very nice. In the off season, the rates are very reasonable. Overall, I would recommend a visit to play here.
Greens were excellent for summer
Played a few other courses while down for the 4th this was next to best in terms of conditions. Summer can be iffy in Naples but Mustang has held up through the heat.
It is a good summer course for sure.
Nice course
Was in Marco for a wedding and found this course. Very nice condition July 1. Will play again if I return. Has a lot of tee options so pick correctly.
MUSTANG DURING THE SUMMER!
I have played this course multiple times. the course has survived a relative dry summer. Weather was perfect! Recommend playing this course.
Great Layout, but very poor conditions
Played the Flamingo at a twilight rate. For $70 I left the course ashamed and disgusted that I had spent so much for a course in a condition worst than most munis. The picturesque signature hole you see when google searching the course and on their site (completely surrounded by water) was not recognizable until after the round my threesome admitted that it was the only it could have been. The greens and fringes were hard like rocks, and were very difficult to chip and putt from. The tee boxes were the worst I had ever seen. Not only in terrible shape, but also put in areas of ridiculous inclines of uphill and downhill lies and put in such a fashion that the tees were set so far back on the designated teeing area, that it was hard to make a normal stance nevermind have the opportunity to put your tee a little further back. Fairways were also in bad shape, and the rough was very patchy. We also saw at least three alligators. For the price there are so many better courses in the area. It is a shame to because the layout was magnificent (Robert Trent Jones Design) and the scenery was alright as well.
What could be better?
Visiting Naples an so much to chose from, we were very very pleased with our round at Flamingo. Would certainly highly recommend it.
Challenging yet fun course
The course was in very good condition. Very challenging with lots of bunkers protecting the greens and many water holes. I would play there again.
Lely Flamingo Island Club -- a very enjoyable course for women golfers
I brought a group of 8 women golfers (so total 9 of us) of varying golf abilities (mid to high handicappers) to Lely Flamingo Island Club, and we had an extremely enjoyable time. Lovely course that is challenging but fair. There are some deep green-side bunkers, and water does come into play on several holes, so hitting it straight is important. But even high-handicappers who practice course management can stay out of trouble. The bottom line is that we loved the course, and we had a terrific lunch afterwards in the Sam Snead restaurant. We'll definitely be back!
Pricey, but worth it
I don't have a bad thing to say about the course. Tees, fairways, and greens were all in excellent shape. Greens had recently been top-coated so they rolled pretty fast, but once you get a feel for it on one it's not a problem. The GPS on the cart gives you everything you could ever need as far as yardage to hazards, the cart in front of you, and greens. It also flashes sports updates along the bottom like ESPN. Cart had an ice chest with ice in it on the side. I came around 2:00, and was able to play by myself. Didn't run into traffic until about 8. Play the flamingo course if you can. It's more scenic than the mustang. Worth every penny!
Lots of players yet pace of play is fast
Nice course with lots of foursomes going out but pace of play was good. Four hours is normal pace of play and everyone seems to make it. Course is in great shape and poses challenges especially when there is wind!
Good course
Great layout, greens run really nice. Conditions aren't exceptional, but that makes it pretty good value . What is exceptional is the cart girl Rochelle. Highly recommended.
Naples Trip 2/21015
Fair, forgiving golf course. Good conditions, friendly staff.
fair course condition
The rough and fairways were beat up pretty good. Greens were very fast and pin locations difficult. If you like hitting from fairway and greenside bunkers all day, this is the place. You can't miss them. I'm a 6 handicap and a bit rusty, but this was no fun. Money not well spent. However, the food and drink in the restaurant, Sam snead's was wonderful.
Some really well designed holes
Don't be put off by the rather boring starting hole as the 4th & 5th are really testing & well designed but on the day we played the wind was so strong the par 3 5th was virtually impossible - I putted off the green as the pin was devilishly placed on the front lower portion. The 9 th is another real test into the wind & shares a green (& a lake!) with the 18th. Lovely short 11th and the last 2 holes have testing carries to well protected greens. Quality of the greens was excellent with the drying wind ensuring they were unforgiving. Would play again!
Nice Course
A little confusion about our tee time, after that was corrected everything was great.
Second Time Around
Love the course. Second time playing it found some new challenges. This is a must play course for the Naples area. A fine layout in excellent condition.
Where was the ranger??
The golf course is an interesting one, moderately challenging with large undulating greens and a fair amount of water in play. We were paired with a twosome who were among the slower players we've ever been paired with. They were never ready to hit a shot, changed clubs frequently, didn't follow their ball and hit lots of shots. We finished the round well behind the group in front and 40+ minutes versus the course standard. We needed a ranger to come and tell the twosome to speed it up. Never saw one.
The course itself is in good condition with a neat design and tough greens...a nice test of golf.
