Nice Old Course.
It had been probably 20 years since I last played the course. The course was in excellent condition for the price and the pace of play was good.
No real amenities because the old clubhouse is under construction.
Driving range is closed because of the construction as well.
Really a good value and a good time.
Lakewood Country Club
Despite numerous construction delays, in my opinion Lakewood is a challenging and enjoyable place to play. Pace of play was could be improved as well as the condition of the greens, but the course offers generous space and enough lengthy holes that you will want to bring your A game. I suspect that when the construction is done and all the the improvements are complete, Lakewood CC will be a destination course for local golfers wanting to test their skills in heart of the most the most pleasant setting of Lakewood community.
On pace for a 9 hour round >:(
Had an 11:40am tee time on a Saturday for our threesome. They ended up grouping us with another twosome, so we got stuck in a fivesome.
Didn't tee off until noon. Which is annoying, but still nothing to get worked up about. When we finished the 1st hole, we turned the corner to find there were 2 groups waiting on the 2nd hole, with one group just about to tee off. We ended up waiting 45 minutes on the 2nd hole, and at one point, there were 4 groups waiting on that 2nd hole. 2 of those 4 were fivesomes, and there was one group of walkers. That's a total of 18 people waiting on one hole!
We called the pro shop to send out a marshal to speed up the play, but apparently, EVERY HOLE WAS BACKED UP because there was a tournament playing on the back nine at the same time, and there was nothing they could do. They really need to rethink their course management and not book so many groups to play on days like this.
We tee'd off at noon, and had only finished 3 holes by 1:30pm. Golf already takes 4-5 hours of your day, but at the rate we were going, it literally would have taken 9 hours to finish (I wish I was kidding or exaggerating). We ended up asking for a refund, and went down the street to Skylinks to tee off at 2pm.
Challenging layout but slow play and no frills
Lakewood has a fun layout, well maintained greens and bunkers, but no functioning driving range or cafe for the foreseeable future (as of 9/16). Started round 15 min behind schedule, never saw a marshall to move play along, and round took 5:15 to play. Nice short game practice area.
Remodel In Progress
The course over all is an average city course, fun to play and some challenging holes, but nothing spectacular. Pace of play can be slow at times and a mix of all ages and talents play the course. At this time they are remodeling aspects of the clubhouse and driving range so paths and some bathrooms are out of service. The driving range only allows you to use shorter irons at this time...no drivers. Tough to really get a good warmup in. But at the end of the day, everything needed for a causal round of golf and most of the grass is decent.
Fun but slow
This was my second time playing here and the first time I finished. The course is fun, it's a longer course from the tips. Started off very slow. 35-45 minutes a hole till after # 4 then it started to open up. Conditions were pretty good. Decent greens. It was worth the 42$ I paid. Would probably play again but maybe earlier. I teed off at 915 on a Thursday.
No Marshall
Would be nice to have a Marshall to drive around to make sure things are moving at a good pace. Found more than a few times people taking their sweet time and teaching lessons at some holes within their group. There's always a 4-8 cart wait at hole 12 I think it is. That long par 3 close to the lakes and bunkers
Took is nearly 6 hours last times to play the course
Other than that, no complaints. Wonderful public course.
Excellent Staff!
Pro shop professionals made this trip definitely worthwhile!
Even though there was much construction going on and we couldn't practice at the range (no time before tee off), we had a great day of golf in sweltering temperatures!
There are many shady spots and this time there weren't any groups of fives ahead of us to slow the pace down too much.
Great course!
Lakewood country club
My overall experience was great, although I didn't shoot my best round. The course is la county so we all were paired in groups of 5 which really slowed play down to a crawl.
The driving range was under construction so Noone could hit the driver, but overall it was a good experience.
I will definitely return for another round very soon!
Lakewood
greens are being repaired right now, 3 temp. greens
Over charged
Was not informed prior to playing they had 3 temporary holes not fair to charge full greens fee with these conditions
No marshal all to be found on course!!!!
Lakewood
The course was in decent shape the fairways were dry and the bunkers were super wet and aweful. I have to say The greens were in great shape. The course did have two temporary greens number 2 and 8. There was no mention of it online. The tee box markers were not set. So, we did decided were we would tee off from and set down the markers ourself. There was also no mention that a tournament would be played. By the time we got to the 11th we ran into the groups in the tournament so, our play significantly slowed down. The play slowed by two groups at a tee box. Not to mention people from the scramble began to pick up out balls followed by "Oh, I thought it was my ball".
Ready for a 6-7 hour round then this is your place
I honestly do not know why I even try. But gave Lakewood CC a chance again last week. Pulled up and could already see 4-5 groups just waiting on the first tee to go out. So my friend and I got through 5 holes in at the blazing speed of 1 hour 45 minutes and decided to call it a day as the next hole was backed up 3 groups. (Par 5 number 6). This course is fun and usually pretty well maintained, but unless you get lucky and catch it without a million people on it. RUN AWAY.
Very very slow!
The course itself is very nice. The greens are very well kept and fast! The course isn't to long but with a good amount of fairway bunkers it can be a little challenging, but fun. The staff was very nice and helpful when needed. So here comes the negatives. We had a tee time for 3:15, yes a little late start but we planed on getting through at least 14-15 holes, but it wasn't easy getting through 9! We called it after hole 7 when it was around 5:45-6 because we were the third group on the tee with a group in the fairway and another on the green. Pace of play was awful and the course was way to over booked.
Overall all nice course when it comes to conditions, but as for pace of play it was awful. I understand the course will be busy on a Sunday afternoon, but the management team needs to do a better job speeding the pace up.
6 Hour Round
6 hour round on a Saturday right? Wrong. We teed off at 1:30 and raced daylight to finish. Followed a 4-some and 5-some of walkers. At no point did a Marshall address the slow pace of play.
7 HOUR ROUND!
Longest round of my life. Groups of 5 going out, no marshall on the grounds making sure pace was moving along. One of the holes had 4 groups waiting on it as it was like a traffic jam on the 405.
What a shame...
This used to be a great course to play. I haven't played here in at least a year, and from the moment I walked in the pro shop, I was reminded why. We made a 7:07am tee time for 4, one guy had to no show, so that put us to 3. A normal assumption in SoCal would be the addition of a walk on to make a foursome, but no, they added 2 walkers to our threesome making it 5. We were probably the 6th fivesome in a row. Pace of play was a joke.
The bunkers had hundreds of watered down footprints that weren't ranked from the day before, no maintenance in the morning at all. Greens weren't rolled or mowed and putted terribly, hundreds of unfixed divots, chunks of grass from the previous day cleats of players...It was a joke. It's just too bad because this is a great layout. Sad to see.
1 hour to play first three holes
The course is an enjoyable course. There are way too many players on the course. We started at 11:30 and were lucky to finish in the dark on 18 just after 5 pm. There are far too many 5 sommes playing. The course needs to limit the number of players playing so we can play the round and just over 4 hours. Until they do that, I will play my golf elsewhere. This is not a new problem. It's not uncommon to see three groups on hole number one, two groups when the tee off on hole number 2, and then four groups on the short par 3 on whole number 3.
slow play
The greens and fairways were in good shape and very playable. The pace of play was awful. 4 hours to play 12 holes is ridiculous. Will not be playing here again.
I had the tee time on last Saturday the 16th of July, 2016 at 3:16pm. At 3:30, I still had 5 groups in front of me. My friends and I see decided to not play and ended up blowing my booking fee of $10.00 to Golfnow. I had other pepole walking out with us commented that they had earlier tee time than my group.
It was a terrible management.
