Great experience at Forest Lake
This was my first time playing Forest Lake. While I've heard great things about the course, they are not on golfnow and I hadn't ventured out to this part of town. Boy, I am glad my group and I decided to play here. We tee'd off at 830 on a friday morning and finished our round at about noon. The pace of play was fantastic. We decided to play another 18 since we finished so quickly so the pro shop attendant sent us out again right after lunch. Again, the pace of play was great! Lunch by the way was excellent. The best $6 sandwich I have ever had.
The course itself is unique in that this part of Central Florida offers some fun elevation changes that the course takes advantage of. Their most unique holes to me were two of the par 3's on the back 9. The tee boxes are mostly all in good condition as are the fairways and greens. Overall, I found the course to be unique, challenging and most importantly fun. It was also a good challenge but also fun for my girlfriend and my dad.
The staff at the course was very friendly, helpful and you feel like you wanted to return. Even though they are not on golfnow, I would certainly recommend playing here.
Forest Lake Golf Club
3:00 pm tee time w/ buddy for $20/ea direct thru course web site. Nice fun course in better than good condition. Tee boxes, fairways & greens plush. Greens rolling medium fast paced but not true on some holes. Like most of Florida, fairways need water. Most of course is links style w/ wide tee shot landing areas. No homes on most of course but not serene, a lot of traffic noise because of proximity to Toll Road 429. Still a fun course w/ lots of man -made scenic nature. Has nice Pro shop that well stocked. Gas powered carts w/ windshield, rain cover in back, & no frills GPS.Will replay again in near future.

Thanks for playing and taking the time to download some pictures. Look forward to your return.
Nice Local Gem!
Our threesome played the course on a sunny, warm saturday in March. They had a nice warm-up area complete with 2 chipping areas and a very tricky practice green.
The carts have a basic GPS system which showed the distance to the hole. The fairways were in great shape as were the bunkers. The greens were a little bumpy, but it is March so I wasn't expecting pristine conditions.
The staff was great, and they even had a ranger that helped keep pokey golfers moving so as to minimize backups. There was a beverage cart that came around several times, and the club house bar/grille was very nice.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would definitely play the course again.
Hidden Gem
This is mostly a locals course, and it is a little rough around the edges -- the rough is spotty, the tee boxes are not manicured, there's very little service beyond the cart girl. That said, the layout is outstanding. The green complexes are interesting and challenging, and the greens themselves always roll true.
If you like great golf and are willing to pass up the frills, you will have an excellent time at Forest Lake.
Great out of the way course
Not overly long, but challenging all the same. Well placed bunkers. Generous fairways.
Only course we played in a week that had on-board GPS.
Fairways, traps and greens were in excellent condition. Rake is in the cart, so don't leave it behind.
Overall, a definite to add to your playlist.
No Homes! Rare for Orlando!
I played Forest Lake with a super senior(83)and appreciated our friendly welcome from the staff. They offered a flag and we accepted.
Course was in great shape. We're from Ohio and Maryland and surprised to hear that many Orlando course's didn't have a good winter and are in very rough shape.
Not this one!! Greens were quick, and consistent. The full white sanded bunkers were trimmed. Fairways were green, well defined with a fresh cut. Great GPS to help keep pace. The golf course is straight forward. Multiple tees allow you to choose how much of this great design you want to see. The layout is great and all golf, NO homes..rare for Orlando!
Clubhouse served a very nice after round lunch. Great price and super value. 25 minutes from downtown Orlando and well worth the drive!
A hidden good course…
I played this course since +/- 20 years several times per year and it is just a very good track with interesting layout, although not too difficult. Tee boxes and bunkers in good condition. Fairways need a little attention some places. Greens are rather fast and true. Staff cordial, but in pro shop only, no one at the bag drop or outside, but it is OK.
Overall – a very good track near Orlando with very considerable rates, but tee times can be booked directly with the pro shop (phone or online – after registration) only.
Fun course and easy to access!
Much improved conditions from last time I played here( 6 months ago) lots of new signage and all bunkers were well raked and maintained. Greens were in nice shape and speed was good. Restaurant food was excellent as well. Easy to get to off 429.
A little rough around the edges but still good
I like this layout although its rarely in the condition it should be. This is a locals course for a solid price. You can have a good game, score well but there will be times you're fighting the conditions of the greens or fairways. This is out in Ocoee about 25 minutes from downtown Orlando and worth the drive solely based on the value.
If you want/need a course with great conditions, this isn't for you. You can play a quick 18 holes if you start out early... a late afternoon game can find you waiting on a couple with one spouse teaching the other how to play or a couple juniors practicing for their high school team.
I've played in just under 3 hours and been stuck for a close to 5 hour round here.... all depends.
Good Layout
Little known fact: Camilo Villegas and Inbee Park hold the tournament records at this former mini-tour stop. A very good layout. However, hard economic times and few area golfers have necessitated cut-backs in maintenance. Still a good place for the advanced golfer to practice. No houses. Course surrounded by West Orange Trail (bike/walk).
My home course
This course is a lot of fun. It is not terribly difficult and there are no houses on it (rare in the Orlando area). They offer great membership deals to Ocoee residents and have decent practice facilities for chipping, putting and driving. Always enjoy a morning or afternoon out on this course.
Good place to waste an afternoon...
First of all the course itself is not bad albeit nothing special, the layout was pretty straight forward. Although there were some patchy areas the fairways were in decent shape and the green were among the best I've seen at this price point. Very smooth and rolled true.
The bad part was the pace of play. Absolutely horrible, by the third hole not only were we waiting to tee off, we were waiting on the group ahead to tee off and get out of the way, and it was like that every hole. There was no ranger out there making groups pick up the pace and the drink cart didnt make an appearance until the 9th hole!? 2 of the players in our foursome quit and left after 12 holes due to the pace of play so I can confidently say it is not worth the money even as cheap ($35) as we got out there for. I would never recommend this course to anyone. Also this really shouldn't mean anything but they didnt even have carts ready for us when we got there so that was my first tip that this might not be the most professionally run golf course.

If groups are falling behind pace and playing slowly it is absolutely the golf courses fault. They are in charge of everything that happens on that course. There is no excuse for them allowing that. Well run courses monitor the pace of play and ask you to pick up the pace if you are behind schedule.

if the people who play in front of you are just slow and don't know how to play its not the courses fault. You could have said something and there. done.

In all fairness to the course, the reviewer was playing on a Saturday in season. Almost every central Florida course is this way in those conditions.
Thank you for the comments. Please come back when your in the area. We are making improvements each month!
