Absurdly Overpriced
Nice layout and scenic views but course condition was laughable for the price. Greens were awful, worse than your average muni. Course was incredibly backed up to the point where we had 3 groups waiting on one tee box. Definitely avoid playing here.
Terrible greens
It was the worst of the greens of the courses that I have played in LA area. They were extremely slow because they were not cut or pressed. On some of the greens there were dry patches.
Gave it a second chance…
This course has such potential because it’s a pretty interesting layout (desert/mountain) but it’s a shame the condition it’s in. The tee boxes are ok but just ok, the fairways are kind of the same a lot to be desired, bunkers seemed fine didn’t find one today, but my goodness the course gets a huge fail for greens. They are overgrown “furry” and that’s when there is a puttable surface. 50% of the greens were literally unputtable unless you were within 10 feet. Luckily I snuck out for a twilight round so it wasn’t too pricey but if I were to pay the standard 100-120 I see being charged I would be livid.
TL,DR
Greens unplayable - cool layout - full price is insane for conditions of greens.
Overall very nice experience. Marshall was very kind as was the staff.
Course probably not for serious golfers.
Where to begin? Probably the slowest greens I’ve played in several years. Not sure if they mow the greenside rough perhaps once every 10 days? So the mown grass just lays there for you to have to chop out of. To be fair, the fairways and bunkers are quite playable. I played Desert/Mountain as a single. After playing the front nine in an hour, 15 minutes, I rode to the Mountain first tee and a group of ladies (later found out that it was girls from an area high school team) were teeing off. I waited 15 minutes and they still hadn’t cleared the hill on the hole so I called it a day after nine. This is a difficult course to walk and push a cart and there is quite a distance between the green and the next tee on many holes. I asked the pro shop if the girls teams played on a particular day at a certain time so that I could avoid those times and the individual said he didn’t think they were on a schedule. Also if you think you are going to post your score on GGIN. Think again. The GHIN system will not pull up your course handicap at Sand Canyon. Too bad that there is so much not to like about a course just seven miles from home. Looks like I will continue to drive to Sterling Hills, Simi Hills, Rustic Canyon and others.
Used to be a great course and value
I’ve been to SC (formerly Robinson Ranch) many many times in the past. Just recently decided to play there again. The course was in very poor condition. Many greens were un-puttable. We decided to pick up after landing on the greens (2 putt). Lots of disease on the greens. One green was completely sodded over which just made it impossible to even think about trying to putt.
Not sure why this is, but no one advised us of the poor shape when we were paying. At a minimum it would have been nice to know the conditions beforehand.
Hope it comes back to the shape I recall.
Management has ruined the course completely
Worst greens ever, and still charging the same price for fees.
Terrible Conditions.
My only advice is to play somewhere else. The course is in terrible shape The greens were riddled with sand filled bare patches and should have been marked as ground under repair and there was crabgrass throughout the fairways. A geen fee of $100 is an added insult. This crourse should be shut down.
Challenging but not impossible
I played Valley/Desert in just under 4 1/2 hours as a foursome. The course was in great shape, the pace was perfect, everything was just great, except my game ha ha.
I would definitely play here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a challenging yet rewarding course.
Some Greens in Horrible Condition
Some greens had large patches of dead grass. One green had squares of sod
Great fairways
This place is beautiful, great fairways, greens. Have to play it smart to get a low score .
Good, could be great
Good things:
- great layout
- tough course
- on course amenities
- staff and everyone was great
Meh things:
- course conditions were ok, greens were rough in some spots
- pace of play was awful. 2 people at golf cart check in but nobody on the first tee. I think one person can check people in and a starter making sure people are teeing off on time and keeping it moving.
- range mats need work
Overall good course and tough layout, played valley/desert. Shorter course but have to be accurate off tee. Nice to see a course where driver isn’t necessary. If they fix some greens and fairways had the potential to be a really good course. Would play again regardless.
Sand canyon
Great track with a lot of challenges when it’s your first time. A lot of target golf which I find fun. For some reason no one plays here even though it’s in pretty great shape. Finished in just over 3 hours and saw the cart girl 4 times. I will be back asap
I ACTUALLY PAID FOR THIS
Cart broken. No navigation. No ice. They don’t believe in cutting or rolling their greens. Ground under repair on 70% of the holes. Took 5 hrs to play 18 holes. Made the turn and we had 4 groups on the 10th hole. Insanely slow. Saw a Marshall not sure what their actual job was. Was told I needed to wear a collared shirt (was wearing a Nike golf mock neck) so I had to buy one in the pro shop. Fun fact? Saw guys playing today with Nike mock necks on. Straight hustled by the kid in the pro shop. This place is a disaster and I’m mad at myself for paying 120.00 to put myself thru that round. I’ll never return and i suggest anyone else to not play here. It’s hot garbage. Sad.
Tough Layout, Super Slow Greens
Sand Canyon could be really great if they sped the greens up.
Layout is challenging with most holes winding around a canyon. Can be tough to know where to hit it occasionally as the corridors are narrow and hard to know where to hit it.
Could be a really fun track, but the greens are always way too slow.
