Space Coast Golf Club
About
Challenge the Savannahs. On the windward side of Merritt island lies one of the most unique golf courses on Florida's Space Coast. The 6,450 yard Gordon G. Lewis design winds through majestic hardwood forests, natural wetlands, and scenic lakes to reveal protected, undulated greens. Nine holes are framed by a natural savannah conservation area, bordered by hammocks with a high canopy of trees and coastal flatwoods. Water, in the form of natural wetlands and manmade lakes, comes into play on thirteen holes. The course boasts several unforgettable holes, such as the 525-yard, par 5 Signature 7th, regarded as one of the most challenging holes in Central Florida. This beautifully tight, typically southern course features six sets of tees, making play ideal for beginners and pros. The back tees are demanding even for the best of the best, while our new “Family Tees” are playable by anyone who wants to tee up. Prepare for your round by warming up on our practice facilities that include: unique aqua range, chipping and bunker area, and full-sized practice putting green. Look around during your visit, and you will notice nature's splendor on display. Our preserve features many water birds, birds of prey, reptiles, and low country mammals that make the savannahs their home. The fairways additionally offer a great view of the nearby Cape Canaveral rocket launches. Our southern plantation styled Clubhouse is a great place to start and end your day at The Savannahs. Inside you will find a golf shop, plus a bar and grill with great food and hospitality to match. Or, wander outside to the veranda overlooking the aqua range and golf course to catch the sunset.

Golfer Reviews
The course needs TLC..
The staff is very helpful. The course is very wet, needs something to get people there.
Greens in bad shape
Really enjoyed my recent round of golf. Fairways were being mowed but not a big distraction. However, the Greens, were terrible. Probably understandable with all the recent rains. A beautiful place to play. We did have some locals try to cut in front of us but when we objected they did defer to us.
Attitude
Golf Now booking system here makes it attractive for me to golf here regularly.
The course layout & the staff friendliness are also important attributes.
Management, though, treats you like 2nd class if you are a "Hot-Deal" customer.
Perhaps their profit is low with us several, but I don't get this feeling at other courses. Often the opposite.
In spite of this, I will continue to golf here, due to the overall experience.
Looking forward to drying weather soon for overall course improvement .
Needs help
The course drains very poorly. Wet marshy lands abound in the rough. If you aren't in the fairway you will either lose a ball in the water or in a mudhole. For a consistent low handicapper they may enjoy the layout. That is, until you get to the greens. They aren't any better. Patchy in parts. This course needs rehab. Better off playing Vista East or Duran. You will pay twice to three times more but at least you will enjoy the round.
Disappointing
On arrival we were informed that due to renovations we would have to go back to the main round to get some food. The course was very wet and not enjoyable to play. Having played this course in the past we were left feeling disappointed.
BE STRAIGHT OR BE WET
Cart paths are still back- breakers in many places, in spite of a few repair efforts. It wouldnt take many bags of cement to make a big improvement.
More sand availability for divot repair is needed at the turn as I like to take care of fairways. (Which are needing care in lots of areas still)
Greens were surprisingly ok even a few days after aeration process, so should be good soon.
Check-in staff great, as are most starters, (but for one usually grumpy guy).
In general&overall, I love this place & golf here regularly & will continue as long as ny back holds out.
Great layout
Course just reopened previous Saturday from hurricane damage ,still a work in progress in some areas, played from back tees 6400 + playes much longer, water in play on 14+ holes ,great staff since new ownership took over
Course was in great condition
Hurricane Irma may have roared through and left devastation in her wake, but the Savannah's crew did a great job getting the course ready to play. The greens were a little rough, but that was to be expected because of all the water Irma left behind. Overall, the course was in great shape. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
All in all and outstanding time was enjoyed by all.
Impressive
It's only been 3 weeks since Hurricane Irma went through. The cleanup was still going on. The shape that the course was in was extremely impressive. You could see the amount of work it had to of taken to get the course into the shape it was in. My compliments to the Management and staff. I'm looking forward to playing this course again in the future, I can only image how nice it will be once the cleanup is complete.
Management
We had arrived little early and asked if we could get out before the storm the starter was very nice and let us go then out come the GM approached us and said we can not ask to go early when we only pay 10 dollars on Labor Day I was very angry after that so I will not be going back to that course
The greens are getting brown areas that are getting larger.
Hopefully it will get the care it needs to keep it from going down hill.
To much rain
Because of the rain it was cart paths only on 7 holes and a lot of walking. The course itself was fair to good on most holes and the greens were good. Since I don't hit far in the air and I do rely on the roll it was a tough round for me with the walking and no roll.
I enjoyed every minute of it.
Swampy, buggy and not a lot of fun
Lots of biting gnats and mosquitos. Would not advise playing there before r after rain. No cart girl. Lots of unkept, overgrown areas. Was playing in a foursome of single digit handicap golfers at 3 and a half hour pace and was pressed by a threesome of high blood pressure croquet players - we could see they were hitting poor shots, picking up and raking putts just to go fast. We were challenged on our pace by ranger until he recalled when we started and then he could say nothing but "I hear ya". Sure slow play is a problem at most courses at times, but so too is an expectation to play in under 3 hours on a busy Saturday morning. It is not realistic to play through the entire field, there should be a reasonable expectation of pace both ways. This course does not seem to understand that, which made it not much fun.
A pleasant surprise!
This was my first time at Savannahs. I was impressed with the layout of this course, they were able to create a good challenging course in a very tight area.
The pace was good, the greens were in pretty good shape (some weeds and dead spots which did not affect the roll as much as I thought).
I plan to return and will recommend the course to others.
Great shape & no waiting
I have been playing here at least twice year over the past 20+ years and I can say the course has never been in better shape. I ended up playing Savannahs that day b/c the course in Orlando I was to play was under water from a tropical storm. The last couple of times I have played here ( both mid week) the pace has been "no waiting", the course seems to be wide open during the week, I played one round under 2.5 hours.
Trees
Love this course, first 5 holes are challenging. If you can get thru them you can really have a low score. play them smart. Course has come a long way. Thanks to grounds crew for fixing this place up. If you haven't played this place in over a year, you will be shocked how good it looks now. 83 best score there yet.
simply a waste of time and money,
weeds in bunkers and greens, serious weed trimming needed, staff treats customers as if they are doing them a favor including the manager who does not respond to justifiable issues. Viera East is a far far better value
The staff members are friendly and go above and beyond to make me feel welcome!
I love the course and the greens are well maintained. The staff are friendly and always make me feel welcome. Once the food and bar are open it will be even better!
Good course - needs attention
I've been playing here for 14 yrs. There is no restaurant or bar - it's been 14 months since new management took over. Rarely do I see a cart girl on the course
The ball washer on # 12 needs to be repaired !! It's the little things - attention to details The course can be restored to its former glory !!!
