Cherry Island Golf Course

Greens are in great shape. They roll extremely true and are at a perfect speed. Staff is extremely friendly, too.

There are a few holes here that you’ll probably need to play a handful of times to figure out how to play them. Some pretty big doglegs, forced carries over ditches or water, risk/reward opportunities, and you probably won’t hit driver on every hole. Be prepared to lose a few balls in water or thick grass.

My three-star rating for layout is because there isn’t enough of a break for people playing the forward tees. I (4.4 hcp) played the blues, my wife (24 hcp) played the yellows. It was a much more difficult course setup for her than me. (There is one more tee further forward than yellow, but the point is the same.) It would be more fun for everyone and improve pace of play if the forward tees were much further forward and incorporated more strategy.

I would recommend this course. Today was the second time I’ve played it and I will be back.

It’s really sad how terrible a place could be simply because of the pace of play. Had a fivesome ahead of us that took forever and then the group in front of us would stop at every tee box to take a shot or smoke. This course is so much fun to play but they really need to get a Marshall out there to do something.

-Tee boxes are awful.

-Fairways missing too much grass, too much exposed dirt, dead pan spots all over.

-Fringe areas are horrific, unacceptable being so close to the greens.

-Greens are semi-decent, mediocre throughout the majority with some needing lots of love.

-Driving range is in real bad shape, mats are too far gone for use. The dirt they have opted to use contains rocks and is an uphill slant, not a good range for work or good clubs.

-Chipping practice area is solid, probably the nicest piece of this property.

-Check in is staff were very nice, very personable.

-Sketchy area around the course, not a parking lot you want to leave any valuables in.

-Any weekday tee time priced over 30.00 is not worth it. Any tee time over the weekend above 40.00 is questionable.

The draft beer was ice cold and thier polish dogs were well above average!!

Course is just ok. Nothing special compared to others in the area. Pro Shop customer service is HORRIBLE. Several times there were Hour plus delays on carts and even had one cart battery die on back nine. Of course pro shop didn't pick up so had to bum a ride back to parking lot. Went in today with a prepaid booking and asked to go out early due to rain forecast in afternoon. Course was completely empty but pro shop refused and wanted to charge me $56!! What a joke.. Never going back. Too many other choices with far superior course conditions and better customer service.

Staff r helpful supportive friendly competent…BUT..this has occurred last couple of tries @ Cherry…..their CART situation stinks…not enuf carts in working order to handle the golfer load….when ur trying tu get your round in n finish before dark..a 1/2 hour to 1hour delay waiting around for 1/2 dead carts to come off the course is ridiculous……sad to say too many good courses around Sac to come back here anytime soon….like the course a lot…

Despite pretty fogging conditions the course and greens were in very good shape. However several greens had visible pitch marks that had not been tended; can’t fault the facility for irresponsible golfers. Had a great time with friends, we’ll be back.

If you have a midday time booked with a cart expect to wait 30 minutes to an hour to get a cart. They never have carts ready unless you play in the morning. Course management is terrible and staff never has any answers as to what’s going on.

The course majority of it was really good just didn't care that the driving range didn't have yard markers nor did the course have enough yard markers. Unless you had a range finder you're guessing at most of your distances. In my opinion the greens were in very good condition. Fast and challenging pin locations. Fairways were nice some of the tea boxes could use a little work but but overall a decent course. Course knowledge will definitely help shave some strokes here.

Wet spots in the fairways and some greens. Fast and undulant greens gave some challenge and more fun. We had a wonderful time playing at the best pace of of under three. hours for threesome. There was marshal who was driving around the holes to make sure we enjoyed the play which is a good improvement. There were some areas where needed some repair work done in the fairways and some greens.

Space out your tee times or get a marshall or both. No round should take this long. Will not return unless and until this improves.
