La Purisima
Played the blues (6670/73.1/136) with RGM2525 in 4 hours on a GolfNow Hot Deal for $24.49 including a cart. Teed of @ noon on our 2nd 18 of the day. We did not wait a shot all afternoon, in beautiful, windy, partly cloudy weather around 70 degrees.
First off, the whole course looked much better than it did the last time I played here several years ago.
The greens putted nice, medium fast and held approach shots well.
The fairways had good coverage. There were a couple of juniors out on divot damage patrol, which was sorely needed on many fairways.
The rough was mostly lush with occasional hardpan or thin lies. It would go from not too bad, to thick and hard to advance more than a short iron to lost ball or hardpan in relatively small areas.
The traps were well maintained with nice sand.
Many of the tees were chewed up and a few could really use leveling. Not up to the standards of the rest of the course.
The customer service was excellent, they got us right out when we arrived ahead of our prepaid tee time. No drink cart person.
This course is VERY unforgiving on crooked shots, you can accumulate penalty shots in bunches here if you are more than about 10 yards left or right of almost any fairway. Many holes have hazards down one or both sides. Many holes have elevation changes and forced carries over hazards, and it is often windy to very windy. This is not a course for beginners.
If you want to be challenged, this is a very picturesque course that is usually not super crowded. This layout absolutely eats me alive like no other course I have ever played. Good thing I putted very well today, or an ugly round could have been positively grotesque.
Great golf course
First time playing at this course definitely I’ll be back. Loved the greens the fairways were in good conditions. One downside I wish there were more cart path, rides were little choppy. Overall I enjoyed it.
Hidden gem
Having driven 4 hours from the San Francisco Bay area my expectations were high and LA parisma did not disappoint! It is a true test of golf from any of the tee boxes with great course conditions and one of the best layouts on the coast that I have seen. Is the golf staff all great big smiles and warm welcomes and we're absolutely there to answer any questions. For the price of a round of golf here I would say why play anywhere else?!
Course in great shape
I feel very fortunate to call this my home course.
Always a Challenge
One of the toughest courses I know... Beautiful landscape.
Awesome course
It was fun to play this course, the course was challenging, love the course layouts. Greens were pretty challenging, they rolled true.
A beautiful challenge
La Purisima is a beautiful challenging layout. A golfer needs to think and execute nearly every shot. Many bunkers, that are well maintained, protect the holes as well as coastal Oaks. The views of the surrounding areas are stunningly beautiful. The staff is friendly and welcoming. There is also a beautiful club house and restaurant.
So good!!!
Absolutely best course on the Central Coast. If you have not played here I highly recommend it. The greens are super fast and the layout is awesome. Best part is you don't see any homes and the changing topography really makes this a special place. I would play here everyday if I could.
They lost what was great, still good but course is fading...
For years La Purisima was the best course in Central CA. In both conditions and design. But over the last 7+ years, the course has been on decline. The turf is a mess of dead grass, mud, mushy spots, mixed grasses and puddles. Its not as if they dont have water, the course is super wet in places and is green, it is just poorly tended. The results are greens that are variant in speed from hole to hole and the tee boxes are full of divots, dead spots and lumps. Last time I was there I watched a maintenance guy drive his cart across the 3rd green! Then get out his weed whacker and cut the edges of the bunker until they were rock, he then left the cuttings in the sand and then drive into and out of another bunker on his way to where ever he was headed directly in front of a 4some teeing it up on the tee….
In addition to the poor conditions and greens, they've made some rather odd changes to the course in the last few years. None good. Removed bunkers on 7 that were a key part of the hole's defense and its beauty. They've removed bunkers on 15, which destroyed the design of a once great par 5 and the previous hole, 14… what the heck are you supposed to do there??? So while the course is a great track, its no longer worth the drive. If you’re close, give it a round. If you’re not, spare the drive until they get this place back into decent shape. Until then, its a shell of its former self.
I love La P but slow play
The course was lovely, we played with a really nice (& good) player, but the slow pace was killer. 5-hr round that felt longer. We had to wait on pretty much EVERY shot.
Good Course
I played in a sanctioned tournament, so the course was in good shape. THIS IS NOT A COURSE FOR BEGINNERS, it is ranked in the top 50 most difficult courses in the US.
You must be accurate off the tee, and precise with your irons.
Always love the piranha
