Mather Golf Course

I love playing Mather. The facilities are fantastic, friendly staff, and the course is in great shape.

The pace of play could be better however, Mather is place that attracts all skill levels so slow play is inevitable. This will not deter me from playing Mather as it is one of my favorites.

Fairways were very firm, not sure if thats normal here but the clay below felt like concrete, maybe it was the colder weather.

Greens were nice and bunker sand as well.

There’s not better experience in all of golf than Mather on a sunny Saturday afternoon, wow what an experience

We play almost every week. We always get to our tee time an hour before. We got to the course before the staff arrived and were waiting at the gate. This guy comes roaring up in his Audi, jumps out of his car and yells, “if your going to get here early you need to wait in the dirt road” no good morning, no hello, just a real a-hole. Then he gets back in his car and peels out into the parking lot! It was 6am and he was obviously late. Then we go to check in and and this same guy is behind the desk. I give our party’s name and he says “$60” I looked at my golf now reservation and it says $49 each for our threesome… he says it’s holiday rates I don’t care what golf now says. He was just a really rude guy who obviously didn’t want to be at work on this day.

Mather golf course is 10 minutes from my house but because of people like him we won’t be coming back here.

The fairways were very soon with a good amount of dirt showing. Greens were bumpy and it looks like the whole placement hadn’t been changed in sometime.

Second time playing the course and it was the same issue. They need to tell people that there is a tournament on wedenesdays and that it will make you late for your t-time and completely slow your round up. At one point there were 3 teams waiting on a t-box on the back 9. Also, the starter doesn't communicate well. I told him repeatedly my t-time was 12:30 yes i was a single. at 12:45 he asked me if i wanted to play with a group that was going after the group he had already assigned me to, I'm like no i'm already 15 minutes behind. So bottom line is this, yes the course is in much better condition than many others in the area by far but the pace of play does put a damper on the game.

The course is now in serious need of watering. Fairway are ok but greens are like rock.

Now that the traps have good sand and the new groundskeeper has fairways and greens in great shape, it’s on of the best kept secrets for the buck in Sacramento.

The course was not in good shape. We haven’t had any rain for over a month, and the course was muddy….even in the afternoon.

The weather was perfect but the course was still wet with slow, took 3 hours to play 9 holes

Nice course and accessible, lots of long straight drives to work your driver out. Greens were in pretty good shape despite that it was played in the middle of winter.

Only one complaint: the rate of play was slow. We waited on every tee box. It wasn't just the group in front of us either, everyone was backed up, Seems like this is the case most of the time, it was the same last time I played. Not a terrible thing, just be aware if you are booking a tee time expecting a 4.5 hour 18 hole round. It'll be more like 5.5 hours.

I love this course, even with winter conditions, but they really need to improve the pace of play. It is not a nice enough course for cart path only and if they continue that policy, they need to be more aggressive with enforcing pace of play. Also, they allowed a five some that had no monitoring and took way too long. I had to leave after only playing nine holes in 3 hours.
