Meh!
Waited for groups ahead at almost every hole. Matter is a public course that is average but oftentimes the Greens fee is the same as better courses. I couldn't tell the difference between fairway grass and which either says something about the maintenance or The design.
Golf Course was in the worst shape they should have closed for repairs.
I Golf course that should never be played in the fall, winter or spring.
Paid for 18 and only played 9 it was so bad.
Winter golf “wet and mushy”
The course condition was not a surprise, just wanted to get in a round of golf between rain storms. However the group that teed off in front of my group was playing from the blue tees and advancing the ball maybe 25 yards each strike. The starter was watching this and was unwilling to do anything. The group in front of this slow group teed off on hole #2 and half way down the front way. Finally the slow group was out of range so that we could teed off. The group realized how slow they were and allowed us to play through on hole #1. The starter continued to watching this all playing out but still not doing anything to correct the problem. The course management should never allow this level of slow play, especially on a very busy day for the golf course.
Mather golf course
Besides the wet and foggy weather, the course was in good condition. Drains very well.
Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Highly recommend.
Course condition is good. Pace slow
The course is in good condition for this time of year. Bare spot in fairway, lots of leaves on the round - fully expected and normal, played winter rules. Pace of play was also very slow, with shortened day light, and sunny nice weather, everyone including me wanted to play golf.
Wide-open
This old course has been around a long time. Wide-open fairways for the intermediate golfer, some long-ish par three's to keep you on your toes, and fairways and mostly very good condition as opposed to many courses in Roseville now that have inexplicably fallen into disrepair. Just always tough to find it folks nice enough to repair their green ball marks, other than that, Mather is a perfect place for people that can hit the ball but might need “a little more room“, which is myself. The total antithesis to Whitney Oaks, which I’m sure you will understand once you play here.
Have to spend some money
Been playing here about once a month or so for 23 years. Staff and Restaurant are friendly and efficient as ever. Carts are great. Unfortunately it’s my understanding that ownership refused to pay for a fall punch making the greens simply beat up and terrible. The rest of the course is in real good shape, it’s just no fun to stick a green and have them roll that bumpy and uneven. C’mon guys, you get a ton of play out there and we have a bunch of choices within 39-40 minutes. Ball’s in your court.
Ignorant employee
we were teeing off on the Hole 2. One of the employees on cart saw one of us teeing off with Driver. Totally ignored us and, drove across the fairway /approximately 50 yards from the tee box. Very inappropriate and rude. It happened around 1:30PM.
Greens are great
They tried to put us in a fivesom, so we had to skip a hole to avoid it.
Why poor condition
Why are the conditions of the course so bad, some dried up fairways, poorly groomed greens, some poor dirt sand traps, and no Marshall’s on course.
Starter tried to fix slow play, why so slow, it was Wednesday afternoon.
Fairway grass is missing or very short so ball is being hit off ground instead of cushion of grass.
Always a fun course for any level golfer
We go often and always have fun. Always great to not to have lost 9balls after playing 😎
