About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

Golfer Reviews
Better now that early spring
Finally, the course is being cared for! Too bad it is not consistent!
Go elsewhere
The fairways haven’t been cut in 4-5 days, the bunkers are gone. Filled with weeds. On the bright side the greens are decent. Oh and the bathrooms were locked- why? This course is within a retirement community, on a Sunday afternoon.
This was a course years ago, it’s shameful the conditions the management presents.
Course condition is not good. especially sand trap.
Bankruptcy Shows
The rough is unplayable, 6in high and grass clippings everywhere. Greens are in reasonably good condition. Fairways unevenly mowed and wide variations of turf and length. Won’t play here again until a competent owner/manager takes over. $20 was terribly spent.
Course in disrepair
Course in poor condition and getting worse as the weather warms. Minimal staff is doing their best just to keep the fairways and greens mowed and that's about it. Be ready to lose balls in the knee high rough. Was advised to lift ball out of bunkers because there is no sand and they are full of weeds and water. Apparently the course management is bankrupt and trying to sell.
High winds
The windy conditions really hampered play! A tough day but still enjoyable with friends....
Nice cart paths
The nicest thing I could say about this course is that the cart paths are nice. I was told in the pro-shop that the bunkers were unplayable. That was an understatement. They were hard packed and full of weeds. The whole course was overgrown and poorly maintained. The fairways were dried out with the occasional over watered low area. The greens were recently aerated. Although the holes were mostly filled in, the greens were incredibly slow and very bumpy. I will not be playing there again.
Weeds down- grass mowed
All that is left to correct are the sand traps. It is still a little dry.....
Horrible Course Conditions
This course appears unkempt completely. Rough is unplayable and overgrown. The greens were in terrible shape. Tee boxes were even overgrown with weeds and high grass. A pathetic excuse for a golf course. I played this course at a heavily discounted rate and it was still too much. Save your time and money and avoid.
Do not golf here
The maintenance on this course was ridiculous. The company that owns the course is in Chapter 11. If you hit your ball 16 inches off the fairway you will NOT find your ball. Fairways are in good condition but everything else is garbage. They should be begging people to play here. Not charging $45 for a terrible experience.
First time...
This is a great course and I enjoyed playing it for the first time. The drive down the river in spring-time was also a real treat!
Bring a mower
Course is a beautiful layout but not well maintained at all. Lost a ton of balls on the first 9 but got my aim better fast lol. Staff was incredible just need to mow better
Needs serious maintenance
They have really let this course go. Every bunker had weeds at least 1-2feet tall, unplayable. I had trouble finding my ball on the fairway a handful of times. If you landed a little off the fairway, good luck finding your ball. Long thick crab grass and weeds everywhere.
Grounds Crew Flunks this test!
The grounds crew has really let this course deteriorate! When you need to take time to find you ball in the middle of the fairway due to the length of the unmonitored grass, the game ceases to be fun!
Granted that it has been raining a lot, but the grounds are worse now than they were a month ago! This is AWFUL!
Goat pasture
This course NEEDS a few goats to wander thru and take care of the weed problem. Apparently, there is a bankruptcy going on and they are cutting costs in the maintenance area. There were two foot high weeds in most of the sand traps and I actually lost golf balls in two of them! The weeds were throughout the rough as well and many of the tee boxes were covered with dandelions. So sad because it looks like a pretty good layout when it’s kept up. I stopped after nine holes because of the conditions and they refused to grant a refund. Will not go back unless there is a change in ownership.
Horrid conditions
I was very impressed with the surrounding area and i figured the golf course was going to be outstanding . When i arrived i found golfers waiting outside of the pro shop and it was closed. The course marshal allowed us to play if we walked long story short an argument came along and we were treated very disrespectful and we will not be coming back to play this course anytime soon.
Needs work
This was my first time playing this course and I had high hopes for it based on a few of my coworkers recommendations. When our foursome got to the course the employee was very friendly and helpful. That was the end of our good experience though.
The course is in serious disrepair. The pictures I had seen prior to arriving definitely did not match the current conditions.
We were told there is no longer a driving range as the developers built houses on it. Not a major issue but one that is disappointing. Now onto the course :
The bunkers were weed filled and unplayable. Several of the greens had serious fungus infections and were pock marked thus making them almost unplayable. The rough was unmanaged and an overgrown mess.
With this said - the layout is incredible. The water features are stunning and difficult to navigate. If the company who owns/runs the course would invest some serious capital to improve the course it could be a jewel I would spend $50-$75 to play.
Very cold
The pace was very good but the conditions were not great for golf due to weather. It was in the low 50’s
