Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

Such a Disappointment
This use to be a pristine course. The only part of the course that sees water is the greens. The fairways and what should be the rough are hard as a rock and the grass is dead. The bunkers are full of weeds and haven’t seen maintenance in years. It shouldn’t be offered on Golf Now until it is sold to an ownership group that cares. Also no place to get a sample hotdog at the turn.
Are you kidding??
Went to Rio Vista today expecting a fun round of golf with friends, unfortunately course conditions made that completely impossible. Driving in a comment was made that the fairways looked dry, what an understatement. The first hole looked like it hadn't been watered in a month, 2nd hole wasn't much better. Sand traps were the worst I'd ever seen, overgrown with knee high weeds you would have to lift and place outside of them. Two holes were all we could handle there was no way we could play 18 holes on a glorified cow pasture, we decided to turn in our carts and try somewhere else. If that wasn't enough the guy at the pro shop gave us a little attitude after hearing what crappy shape the course was in, as if he hadn't it before from other golfers... he actually wanted us to pay full price. Well after checking with his manager we were allowed to leave, no charge. Bottom line save your gas and time and play elsewhere.
Rio early play
Playing early at Rio Vista is great I finished in 2:15 minutes. Fairways are dry, but the greens are in good shape.
The Dying Course!
This place needs to be taken off the golf now ap! It used to be beautiful, but now it is not maintained at all!
DO NOT PAY OVER $20 TO PLAY THIS COURSE!!
Here are the issues:
1. Tee boxes dont exist as they are just flattend weeded areas.
2. The fairway is so dead, it looks like youre hitting off a cow raw hide.
3. The bunkers have no sand, there are weed bowls, which you basically have to take your ball out and take a drop.
4. The rough doesnt exist as the grass is all DEAD. But there is plenty of rough patches in the fairway to loose your ball after a good shot.
5. Beware of the cracks in the fairway from the dry ground, that will swallow your ball whole!
The only thing good about this course is the layout and greens!
Fun experience
The course (fairways and greens) seemed in good condition! The sand traps were horrendous and I am glad that I didn't hit into any! But to be fair not many local courses have good sand traps!!!
The course has a book that has pictures and gives advice on how to play the holes! Very helpful!
With the exception of one old hag driving through the parking lot every one we met was extremely friendly and helpful!
The old hag complained that our golf cart was facing the wrong direction when it was parked behind my car as I was unpacking after the round! when we obviously didn't care for her complaint she flipped us off! But seriously we had such a good experience that day she didn't bother us at all!
GO PLAY!
Rio Vista golf club
I played this course about a year ago and since then it seems the course has gone down hill. First the grass watering is not ideal, it’s to wet in some areas and not watered at all in other areas. For the most part most of the areas are dead or could use some watering. The sand traps are not sand at all, weeds growing in the traps, no sand, it’s obvious that the traps have not been maintained in quite some time. The greens are in good shape but that’s about it. I really like the layout of the course and some of the challenges it presents, it just needs some serious maintenance. As far as the amenities, the bar and grill area are very nice, although a beer cart would’ve been nice. Lastly the staff was very nice and accommodating. This could be a great course if they would fix those things I mentioned.
This course must have been amazing a long time ago..
Absolutely great and very helpful staff! But the course itself needs a lot of work. It’s a beautiful course with a fantastic layout but the problem is it’s been neglected for sometime. The putting greens are great, but that’s the extent of the course...
A GREAT COURSE THAT HAS BEEN DESTROYED.
I HAVE PLAYED THIS COURSE FOR 15 YEARS. I USE TO PLAY ABOUT 150 ROUNDS PER YEAR ON THIS COURSE. FOR THE FIRST 10 YEARS IT WAS A GREAT AND BEAUTIFUL COURSE. IT WAS SOLD TO AN LLC CALLED BRV INVESTORS. THAT IS WHEN IT STARTED IT'S DOWN TURN. AFTER A COUPLE OF YEARS IT WAS SOLD TO THE WARRIOR COMPANY THAT MAKES AND SELLS GOLF BALLS AND CLUBS. THEY ADVERTISE ON TV FOR THEIR PRODUCTS. THEY HAVE DESTROYED THE GOLF COURSE AT RIO VISTA. IF THEIR PRODUCTS ARE AS GOOD AS THEIR GOLF COURSE MAINTENCE I WOULD NEVER BUY ANY OF THEM. IT SHOULD BE CRIMINAL TO DO WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO THIS COURSE.
Course Needs Work
Haven't played this course in a couple of years, wow have they let this course go. The greens were in very good shape, the bunkers were non existent, filled with weeds and some water. The fairways were in decent shape, could use some work but not terrible. The golf cart, for the last 6 holes I thought we wouldn't make it in. I have played this course quite a few times over the years and it was a very nice course. Hopefully with the new superintendent in place they can get in back in shape. The course is playable but I wouldn't pay full price. I put on top that I woudn't recommend to a friend. I would tell him what I have said here and let him make the decision.
Perfect weather and the good pace.
There were two different tournaments going on when we got to the club but the staff was wisely put us between the two tournaments. It was a smart decision and a move of the staff. We all appreciated him. With a gorgeous weather with a light breeze and a little warm temperature in the middle 80’s, we totally enjoyed the game. It only 3:45 hrs to play all 18 holes. Usual score of 83. Not bad for a super senior player. Hmmmm. Thanks GolfNow.
Course needs work
Warrior Golf Company is not maintaining the course in good condition. Fun course. Would be nice to have a beverage cart.
Sad
Great service but course in poor shape. Bunkers not attended to in months. Full of weeds. Many dried out spots in fairways due to lack of water. Only tees and greens in good shape.
Rio Vista GC. Needs TLC
I’ve played this course many times over the years.
My review is based on the current condition versus the ‘good times’.
The fairways are dry, the rough is full of weeds and the bunkers are in poor condition.
I’m hoping things will improve. I don’t want to give up on this course.
Beautiful
Outstanding place to play compared to what's around.
A windy day in Rio
I enjoyed my windy round in Rio Vista because the challenge makes it thrilling. When the wind kicks up beyond 13 mph, the ball does all kinds of different things. I was able to golf with another retiree and our pace was fast. Love playing this course and will be back there soon!
Rio Vista Golf plays different in the wind
fun to play, wind helps you on some holes, but takes it back on others
Challenging course - water
Really enjoyed my round here. Granted that the grounds are weedy but currently the grounds team is keeping the weeds low reducing the chance for lost balls. Be prepared for the wind.......
