Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

Course in great shape
Glad to be back. Course was in great shape.pace of play was good. Can't beat the price
Decent layout, terrible conditions
This track was probably awesome when it was brand new but I don't think it's been maintained since! Fairway bunkers looked like something out of Chernobyl, half the greens had some of the worst fungus patches I've ever seen and fairways were beat up. The design is pretty solid and challenging from the tips and some of the greens were really nice but other than that it needs a lot of help
Rio Vista 6/5
Greens and fairways were in fair to good condition.
Bunkers were really bad. All were pretty much hard packed and two of the fairway ones had vegetation growing. More like waste areas than bunkers. Pace of play was great. About three hours for a threesome.
Nice day of golf
Very friendly staff - got there a bit early - but - was allowed to just go ahead and play whenever we were ready - I LOVE THAT ,, the course was in good condition - someones taking care of it - nice layout. Had an early dinner at the grill - super nice bartendner (Deandra (sp) - really good food too - all and all - a nice eperience
What a difference a Head Pro makes!
I had such a great outing yesterday (5/23/2015) that I wanted to post a positive review.
I played the Golf Club at Rio Vista maybe around 3 years ago and it was so unbearable that I almost walked off at the turn. I discover that the course was going thru an owner’s transition and wasn’t maintained. The mosquitoes were unbearable.
My golf buddies inform me that it’s under new management so I decide to try it again. What a difference a great head pro can make! It’s was like visiting a whole new course. From the friendly and welcoming staff to the course maintenance (keeping it down the middle) and the 19 hole with very good food!
What a blast. I would strongly endorse visiting and playing a round. It’s a great value and is now on the top of my favorite local go to courses!
Again, what a difference good management makes! Good Job!
What Use to Be
As recently as last year, this was a very nice course and great value. Now, the course in bad shape with dry patches and water puddles Spread throughout the fairways, chewed up greens invested with weeds, and the driving range that was taken out last year doesn't help.
What once was one of my favorites; now, I doubt if I'll return.
Thank you for playing Rio Vista and taking the time to post a comment. We have owned the course since February of 2014. The course was in terrible condition when we took ownership and we believe it has improved quite a bit in the last 15 months. We have invested in equipment and irrigation repairs and have recently hired a new Superintendent. The course should continue to improve and we hope we will make enough progress to bring you back.

The lcourse has strong winds.
Good challenge: greens are not easy to read, lots of water hazards and the bunkers are under repair.
Good value
The course was in average shape. Some rough spots in the fairway. Typical for dry conditions and heavy play. Same goes for the greens. Speed was good, around 8-9 on the stimp. Tee boxes were in descent shape. No beverage cart. Some water in play. Ball washers are in poor shape. Course plays around 6500-6800, but with windy conditions, frequent here, some holes are a bear. On the flip side, some are fun. Overall I'd rate it as a good value.
Little Windy
There are a lot of reviews on here bashing this course, but in all fairness, whatever issues were had before, are in the process of being corrected right now. This was my first time playing Rio Vista, and overall, I had a great time. It was a fairly difficult course for my handicap, with a lot of target golf needed to progress, and somehow, I mananged to put together one of my better overall rounds. And that was with 20+ knots of wind swirling around all morning. I will say that I enjoyed the course, as did my buddy that played with me. Course was a little wet from the rains the previous night, but that just helped out on the greens. Fairways and greens were great and well cut. Biggest issues were the unplayable bunkers, but luckily had the pleasure of staying out of them the entire round. Carts were a nice touch with the well placed GPS monitors (a BIG help to my shooting so well) and the staff was super friendly. Almost convinced me to buy a new club. Because of the weather, time of day and course conditions, pace of play was amazing, as we were able to get out of there in less than four hours. No one was ahead of us after the first hole and not once did we have anyone coming up from the rear. Overall a good morning on the course and I can't wait to play this course again when their potential has been fully reached!!
Thank you for the nice review. We have been trying very hard to improve conditions and it is nice to hear that you have seen some improvements.

Good Value
Course is in way better shape then it was 2 years ago when I played it. Thought I'd never go back, but driving by it looked like they were taking care of course again, good price so I decided to give it another go. Played 90 holes there in the last month, plan on putting it back in our rotation of courses
woodrowduck - Thanks for the nice review. The maintenance team has been working very hard to tackle the issues that we inherited when we acquired the course. We have a new superintendent starting soon as well, so that should be a plus. Hopefully mother nature will do her part too. Thanks for playing, we hope the course continues to improve. - Ryan S, Warrior Golf.
Better than expected
Went into the round expecting a rough course and it was in fairly good shape. Bunkers need work but greens were good and love the layout. Course has potential! Will play there again.
pass if you can
Its under new management and they have a long way to go. Nice clubhouse and pro shop but it all falls apart from there. Course conditions are very bad. Start with average greens, Horrible sand traps and bad fair ways. I know the previous owns ran it into the ground but the new owners should of closed it to do the repairs or charged very little to play.
Fairways are terrible, sand is clay
Just bad, everything was terribly maintained. The fairway and tons of random holes and sand was as hard as a rock.
GETTING BETTER, AND BETTER
I'VE BEEN PLAYING THIS COURSE FOR A WHILE. SEEN IT WHEN IT WAS FAIRLY NEW,AND IN IMMACULATE CONDITION. THEN, IT GOT PRETTY BAD IN SOME SPOTS OVER TIME. HOWEVER, IT IS STARTING TO GET BETTER. BUNKERS ARE GETTING BETTTER, STILL ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT, BUT BETTER. FAIRWAYS ARE GETTING NICE. GREENS ARE GOOD. LOOKS LIKE OTHER GOLFERS ARE CHIPPING IN AND HELPING OUT WITH BALL MARKS ON THE GREENS. (I PERSONALLY WITNESSED IT. ALWAYS NICE TO SEE THAT) OVERALL.... GREAT GOLF EXPERIENCE. SOME OF THE LOCAL RETIREES COULD BE A LITTLE MORE FRIENDLY, BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO. A GREAT DAY OF GOLF... GREAT PRICE.. GREAT DAY.
one of the worst in the Bay Area
A change in ownership has done nothing to improve this course. While the greens fees are inexpensive, the course condition is poor, making this "deal" a bad value. There are no marshals, so pace of play is relegated to the group in front of you. The golf carts are the best in the Bay Area - too bad their condition has nothing to do with the overall experience!
There she "blows"!
Rio Vista has been and always will be a course
dominated by wind. It is what it is and no player should book a tee time in advance from out of area due to the unpredictability of wind on any given day there. It can be marvelously calm or downright unplayable.
Course is under new ownership and making slow improvement to the 80 or so previously unplayable
bunkers. Some of the greens are infested with a weed problem that will take a lot of time to overcome. Tees are generally ok. Fairways ok but with areas in need of seeding and more TLC.
Many courses face similar challenges. Rio Vista is not a bad place to play. Verify wind conditions before you drive out there and expect nothing spectacular for a reasonable price.
Good deal
The course was in poor shape due to neglect but the design, pace of play, friendly staff, and great price made it worth it. I will go again and hope that someday they put some money back into the course
Nice time
Nice time greens are in great shape people are very nice and respectful great day. Playing there again next week.
Not bad
It's not to bad of a layout. A couple holes that can be quite a challenge but still a fun course. The greens aren't in the greatest conditions but not terrible. Sand needs some help too. I wouldn't pay more than 25$ to play here though. You can do better elsewhere I'm sure
Thanks for playing Rio Vista and leaving your comments. We have owned the course for 15 months and feel like we have made some major strides at Rio Vista. What you see on the greens is our effort to eradicate pineapple weed. It doesn't look great when you are removing it but in a short time, the greens will be weed free and much better to putt on. The bunkers are still something we need to address and we are aware of the problem. Please stick with us and we think you will continue to see more and more improvement over time - RyanS, Warrior Golf
