Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

Disappointed Homeowner
I first played this course about 8 years ago and it was PRISTINE.....I made the decision to buy a home here with the hope that the new management company would restore it back to the gorgeous course it once was.....It's apparent that they have given up.....the bunkers and fairways are flooded rendering them unplayable.....the rough is brutal....exposed tree roots and hard packed dirt....this course is more suited as a rock quarry.....As a new homeowner, I am embarrassed to invite my friends and family to play here....I travel to Brentwood or Fairfield to play.....eventually they will just fill it in and build more homes.....The HOA Master Association chose the wrong management company....they should of went with CourseCo...For the record, I have not played here since purchasing my ome in June of its year, but I did walk it and was disgusted
Thought I'd give it another Try..
This course has a decent layout with the potential to be a great track. Unfortunately everytime I go out there I can't even enjoy the golf because the conditions are so Poor it's Sad. Golf club at Rio Vista has uneven & weedy tee boxes. Bunkers are either mud and clay or hard pan. Fairways and greens give the impression that Warrior golf (the ownership) has Given Up. By this I mean the very few green spots on the course are over watered-the rest is just dead grass that the geese con. GolfNow is a Great resource for golf courses. Plenty of good tracks out there. Go Play.
Thank you for playing Rio Vista, and for taking the time to post a comment. We are sorry that you did not find the golf course to be in good condition. We (Warrior) have owned the course for about 2 1/2 years now and I can say that we have not "given up" on the golf course. The course was much worse when we acquired it and will only continue to get better. We have spent a lot of time and money improving irrigation, fixing greens, and purchasing equipment and have plans to address issues like the bunkers soon. We are in it for the long term and although improvements may seem slow, they are happening. -Ryan S. Warrior Golf.
Rio vista Golf club
Very scenic yet moderately priced. Very friendly staff. I have played here before and will again, often. The water hazards still give me the willies where I donate a few balls.
Best value within 50 miles
What can I say about Rio??? Well when the wind blows this can be an extremely difficult course but when the weather is calm it is so much fun to play. Lots of risk and reward holes mixed in with your standard variety layout. I love the greens as they seem to always run true and on the faster side compared to the courses in my rotation.
The rough was a little long considering this course is in a retirement housing tract and should be cut to resort lengths which would also bring the trouble in to play more off the tee...I'd much rather lose my ball in the water than not being able to find it in 4-5 inch rough.
Overall this place is great, quick pace of play on the weekends and for some reason the wind likes to die down when I visit...lets hope the rough is cut and the wind is calm this Sunday when I make my monthly visit.
Fairways and green are good. Anywhere else plays like ground underreport.
Fairways and greens are in decent shape. But anyware else is really bad. Typical rough areas haven't been maintained for a while. Service and staff are great. Carts are new and restaurant is nice. Long par 3's while par 5's mostly require Layups off the tees.
Open Experience?
The Warrior organization has done a superb job of upgrading every aspect of this golfing gem. They know they have more to do and more is in the works. The course is full of strategically placed water and bunkers. The greens are small with some breaks exceptionally hard to read. Our foursome played the course after a solid week of daily rain; so we were restricted to cart path only. I estimated the greens to be running nine on the meter. Several of the fairways were narrowly mowed and secondary rough high giving you feeling of a US Open. The carts, over a year old, looked like they were just taken out of the box yesterday. The staff and management are super friendly. We ate at the restaurant and the food was great. This course will be a regular stop for our group. You've got to play this course.
It's the sand traps that kill this place along with a lot of other courses like this. When there is no sand it makes it nearly impossible to swing with confidence.
I play this course a lot and have for years but they give no love to the sand, it didn't always be like this. Not sure if it's new management of that their focusing on other upgrades. But losing the driving range sucked too!
Still a ways to go
I last played here two years, ago and it was awful. After reading several reviews, I decided to give it another chance. Things have improved under new ownership, but it still is pretty ragged. I wish them luck, as it is a decent layout. I will try it again in a year.
Need a goat.
I'm not normally a negative person but course left few positives. Greens, like velcro + very firm. Fairways, sparse with bare areas + weeds. Tees, BEST part of course. Rough, long + many weeds, foresome had major trouble locating balls. Sand, many could have been dirty water hazards, rest full of rocks. With major maintenance course could be a pleasure to play. Carts nearly new with good GAPs. Course set in housing development that only come into play if extremely wild. Even with fantastic GolfNow price will not return until improvements have been verified.
Course was in really good shape
Great course fairways was in good shape greens were in good shape overall just a good time I would recommend you to friends and I'll definitely play it again
Tale of Two Nines
Got there early with a friend for a 7:15 tee time. Thought I could hit the range before but didn't realize they don't have one. There were a few groups out before we were, (all of them locals and a lot of women which was great to see). Another out of towner joined us to make it 3. We got around in under 4 hours which was great and got lucky with no wind. The front nine was a bit ragged. Fairways were spotty and the greens were a bit beat up. The fairways were also heavily drenched with water. The bunkers were all very wet and many of them had large puddles. Not good. The front 9 also had weird designed holes. Driver could not be used on any of the par 5's. The back 9 however was much better. Fairways and greens were in great condition. Bunkers were still wet but no puddles. The layout was also much better. We really enjoyed the outing. Guys in the clubhouse were super. Folks in the restaurant were also great I am definitely come back. Had a great time out there.
.Great Day, Great Golf!
I invited 3 friends to join me for this outing. I had never been to this course before and found it in good condition considering that we are in under watering restrictions here in California.
We had a great time and I plan to return someday soon.
staff is great
Warrior Golf is at the beginning of getting this course back to it's prime. The greens complex is 100% better than a year ago. They are reconditioning the tee boxes. The fairways still have some major issues and the bunkers are horrible but one thing at a time.. It's definitely improving leaps and bounds. Can't wait to see it after another 12 months.
Terrible customs
Course on poor shape. Cups look as if they have been in same spot for weeks. Gras growing over edges of the holes. Dead spots all over the fairways. Tee boxes uneven and furry. Greens slow.
Food was good.
Great Course
Still a great course just as I remember it. Had a great time!
Jack,
Thanks for the nice review. We are always so happy to get 5 stars!
We have a new Superintendent that has been working hard out there and it sounds like it is paying off. Thank you so much for playing, we hope to see you soon.

very good condition considering the drought
Restaurant closed.snack bar closed.only a vending machine. No beer no wine.NO GOOD
Thanks for playing Rio Vista and also for leaving your comments. I have passed your comments to our General Manager and asked him about the restaurant hours. We are open for lunch and dinner 7 seven days a week at Sir Flair's so I am not sure why we were not able to serve you.
Hopefully you will visit us again and have a better experience. Feel free to ask for a manager on site if you need assistance with anything. Our current GM Byron will be happy to help you.

Course was in poor shape
Course was not kept in good shape; lots of standing water and poor drainage. Tee boxes were in disarray and poorly managed. Complications with clubhouse staff in accepting credit card for payment.
Leon,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We take all the comments left here very seriously and will look into the issues you mentioned. We hope to see you at Rio Vista again sometime soon.

Going downhill
So disappointed to see that this once beautiful course is so overwatered it's difficult to actually play. There are areas where it's completely soaked and others that haven't been watered in months. Makes no sense. Bunkers are in terrible condition, most have standing water in them and fairways are barren where there isn't an abundance of water. So sad to watch this course deteriorate as I thought Warrior golf would take over and bring it back to it's glory. Not sure what will happen with this course. Bummer
Thank you for your detailed comments on the condition of the golf course. There are a number of challenges at Rio Vista that we are facing and we are working hard to find a solution. When we acquired the course, we learned that there were many problems with the irrigation system. This has a lot to do with the wet and dry inconsistencies that you see. We have had some other issues with water supply and obviously operating in this drought can be difficult.
The bunkers are an ongoing issue that we are about to address. Many of the bunkers that are in disrepair may be removed or changed in upcoming months. This is a project that will help improve the playability of the course and make it easier to maintain.
Stay tuned, I think you will see some positive changes to the course but they do take time. Thank you so much for playing, we hope to see you soon.

Greens and fairways poor condition
I play here frequently and the course conditions have eroded quickly. My wife and I played and we love the staff but the greens are horrible with sand piles throughout that are replacing an unknown weed they eradicated . The fairways are hard and very dry along with the abundance of geese and goose droppings ..was not very enjoyable ..we will be taking this out of our rotation of courses we play until improvements are made
Bedraggled
This course was built several years ago as part of a senior citizens housing development in the exact middle of nowhere. The design is nothing special and now the course has fallen into disrepair. It was worth the $10 green fee, but just barely.
Terrible greens
I got a hot deal for this course I would've been thoroughly upset if I hadn't. Greens were green but had tons of patches that were just dirt. The grass in the fairways was extremely long. The only things good about this course was the GPS onon the carts and the friendly staff.
Nathan,
Thanks for playing Rio Vista and for leaving your comments. What you might have seen on the greens were dead spots that once were pineapple weed. We had an outbreak and sprayed the greens to kill the weed, but that left us with bare spots that have grown back.
I think you would find that the course has improved since you played it, especially the greens.
Come out and try us again, we do appreciate your business.

Slot,
Thanks for taking the time to post. We are sorry to hear that you find the course to be in such poor shape. I wanted to set the facts straight on a few things. Warrior Asset Management is not just a management company, we actually own the golf course. There are no plans to build more homes. We have only owned the course for about two years now and have made significant improvements in that time. The golf course still has many areas that need to be addressed and we will continue to work on those things.
