Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

The club at rio vista
The course was in good condition and the pace of play was very good. We played in 4 hours. Always a chance of wind out there, and it was a little breezy. Overall it was an enjoyable day. Will be playing out there again soon.
Horrible
Don't waste your time playing here. Course in bad shape no sand in bunkers tee boxes all beat up . Long drive from Sacramento.
Rio Vista Golf
The course has a unique layout, a little dried out is some areas (Hey we are in drought and water is an issue). The sand bunkers in the fairways and around the greens are poorly maintained and hard as a rock, but I like the challenge even when wind is howling.
There course very nice long wide open.
This golf club rio vista play good for experience basically some learn course also during play golf very quiet around course is great. And good for wind experience like challenge.
Nice course
Nice course that is well maintained. Greens offered some challenges but the key is having a good approaches. It's a bit of a drive from Sacramento but was worth it. Got to hit this course again.
Sand Traps need some work!
No sand in the Sand Traps, makes it very difficult. Pace of play was amazing for a late Sunday morning (11 AM tee time). They just removed their driving range to build more houses, so it's a bummer that there is no range. In talking with the staff it sounds like they have no plans to ever replace it. We used to play tournaments out here but we've had to switch locations because of the no range.
Course is still fun to play and challenging. Just needs a little love. Green where in nice shape
almost
Course is nice to play but it isnt maintained. The sand traps that arent half filled with water seem to have cement instead of sand. Fairway grass is really hard and a lot of missing dirt patches. Also the waters look like small swamps.
Poor management
No sand in traps greens were sanded and not swept. Grass is bad and getting worse. Management doesn't seem to care about condition of course. Could be great if someone cared.
Pretty decent track
Played 4/09/14 on a beautiful day. The course is in better condition then I expected. The fairways were medium, not firm but not soft. The Blue tee boxes were uncared for but level and divot free which is nice. The greens were quite soft, the ball stays within 2-3 feet of the pitch marks. They roll well, medium/slow on the speed and are fairly flat, no huge breaks. The sand is horrid. Crusty/hard. I found 3 and used a 60*, played the same as hitting from hardpan, makes greenside tough and fairway bunkers fun.
The course is fun. Long par 3's and 4's with short par 5's. The tee shot requires attention as the landing zones are small the farther the shot is played. 2 of the front 9 par 5's don't allow for a full driver off the tee without risk of water hazard or a marsh. Bunkers guard tee shots on every hole it seemed.4-5 forced carries over water and other hazards.
This course is built into what I thought was a retirement community, I was pleasantly surprised by the length and difficulty level. I'm told the wind can really get up however the day I played it was only around 10-15 mph (thank god). I'd play it again, and for the $15 deal I got on golfnow I was a happy camper!
Worth playing.
could be a great one
This course with a little more work could be a great course. Everything is in place for that to happen. All they need to do is get the sand traps in shape and get the fairways a little love. Really wish that they could get a driving range back. It took me a couple of holes to get my timing back, not good for the score card, and considering the second hole is a par five with water coming into play twice bye bye gold balls.
Much improved.
I am a resident here in Trilogy, Rio Vista. The golf course was recently purchased by the Warrior Golf Company. You can already see improvement on the condition of the golf course. Unfortunately, the previous owner group did not invest much money into the course until the last few months, so the condition of the course had declined greatly in the last several years. Improved grounds keeping and the winter season has the course looking better than it has in the last several years. Rio Vista's infamous winds blow much more in the summer than at other times of the year, so now is a good time to try the Golf Course at Rio Vista.
fairways nice grass greens real good
a new company owns the course they are rebuilding the course and doing a great job I would recommend this anybody
No more driving range
The driving range has been removed. There was no food available at the turn, Some bare spots on greens. Great course for beginers. Great deals on golf now.
nice course
it is in good shape but will get better. what more to say!!!!
Average at best
My buddies and I decided to give a course we hadn't played before a try...we chose Rio Vista GC. We're all from Sacramento, so it was about an hour-ish drive down...not awful.
I'm "big" on the website being fully updated so when it DOESN'T say "No Driving Range" and we show up an hour early to leisurely warm-up, that kind of gets the morning off to a bad start.
The course is in average condition. The fairways are spotty and the intermediate rough is not existent as it is replaced with large "tufts" of grass. The Tee Boxes (the tips) were awful as they were never level and more than half had dandelions growing up. Really, is it THAT hard to have decent tee-boxes. The bunkers? Rock hard with zero sand. It was like hitting off hard-pan. The Greens were the best part of the course, which isn't saying much.
75 degrees and no beverage cart AND the snack shop was closed at the turn. Again, not good.
Lastly...via their website, I sent an email in advance asking about course conditions as we didn't want to drive over an hour to play a course that wasn't up-to-snuff (I should say that 3 of us are scratch golfers). No reply whatsoever. None.
Final Analysis: NOT WORTH THE TRIP. If you're 10-15 minutes away, go for it. If you're driving an hour to get there, you have MUCH better options elsewhere to choose from.
Needs TLC
Fairways and greens have a lot of disease bonkers don't have much Sand. Course is a good value but conditions are sub par. Good value for what we paid.
Good course but
Overall the experience of the course was not bad. The course itself though was rough. The greens had a lot of patches which would put you in a hole if you hit onto the patch. A lot of ducks and geese roamed the area and sometimes even on your ball. There was a lot of unmarked construction at the time(such as gas lines or water lines ). But the course itself wasn't bad. I liked the challenges it offered such as bunkers and water hazards. Fun course but needs a lot of work!
No More Driving Range & Poorly Staffed
I thought I would give the course another try and was again dissapointed. Playing their was a mistake. Shea Homes is currently building houses on what used to be the practice facility. There is no more Range, and Too many bare/dry spots on the course add to the increasing eyesore (as a whole) and take away the ability of high handicap golfers to consistantly make good contact with the ball. Also the unkept Tee Box markers are scattered and mix and matched. But Most Important , if you do decide to play their, pay very close attention to grabbing your ball out of the holes if the flag stick is in-the fiberglass at the bottom of the flagsticks is peeled/frayed and can easily "sliver" you. It hurts. And Its Always Windy.
The green needs more care
The greens need a lot more work to keep up the par
standard than ever before. The fairways seem to be ok
if you want to have more challenge shots as in the rough or hazards for a round of practices.
