Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

Challenging but in poor condition
Looks to have beenrecently aerated. Hard packed sand in bunkers with standing water. Wet and muddy spots in several of the fairways.
Great Course Fallen to Neglect
I played (Trilogy) Rio Vista Golf Club last year and really REALLY enjoyed it. When I had the chance to play it again yesterday (7-19-13) I was really excited....
But Wow, what a difference.
What happened to the well maintained course I played last year?
Tee Boxes - Terrible/Bald
Greens - Lumpy/Unkept
Fairways - Flooded in some parts yet dry and dead in other parts
Traps - Not one grain of sand on the entire course (dirt traps).
I spoke with some of the residents and they explained that there is an ownership/management dispute.
Come on folks, this place is better than this...put in the time, effort and resources to make things right.
overall nice course
the bunkers were not maintained well. very hard in places with standing water in them. the tee boxes were not maintained well either.
Poor conditions/
Thank you for this oppurtinity
The course was in poor shape, many of the tee boxes were either dead grass or dirt,
Bunkers were very poorly maintained or or half full of reclaimed water,
Areas adjacent to greens were dirt
Areas of the fairways had standing reclaimed water, at 1 pm on a day that reached 90 plus degrees
I will not return to this course
needs lots of attention
this course has the most perfect layout, some beautiful holes I love the course but the condition that it's in breaks your heart, fungus eating the greens and many dry areas, a few months ago was great not now.
Design very similar to other "Trilogy" retirement community courses, not long, some water, being accurate off the tee will help you.
This course is in VERY poor condition. From tee boxes to greens, it needs a lot of TLC. Thanks to Golfnow, I only paid $9. Which is about what it was worth. It's too bad, this could be a very enjoyable track if the course was in even decent shape. Keep in mind that if you play here in the afternoon it will be windy, the wind always blows here in the afternoon.
Not up to usual standards
Has Shea Homes fallen on hard times? There is an obvious lack of maintenance. Tees are beatup dried out areas in fairways and some greeens have nare spots.
This is a beautiful setting and a difficult course that needs maintenance
I love the layout with 4 shots over water to various greens and another 5 or 6 with adjacent water so hitting balls straight and getting balls airborne are important for this course. There are a smattering of fairway bunkers that further require accuracy off the tee.
The course has too many unrepaired divot marks and other bare spots. There is no sand in the "sand traps". The dirt in them is so coarse and packed that one can walk around and barely leave a foot mark.
Despite these issues, I enjoy the layout and the value. With proper attention, this would be one of the best settings for the moderately successful golfer. (Not for duffers!)
Worth the Drive
This course is a little out of the way for me, however, I typically try to make it out there a few times every year. This course is located in a gated community and the atmosphere is very laid back. The tee times are spaced out well so the course typically moves along at a decent pace. There is a good deal of strategy that goes into play on number of these holes. On the front 9 both Par 5s require less than driver off the tee as finding the fairway is essential. I think this course is definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.
Just the right amount of water
Fathers Day had a fantastic time with my sons & my grandson everybody was very nice, greens were true, it was fun. I always enjoy Rio Vista golf
Not what it once was
They have really let this course go. Fairways on all but one or two holes are extemely dry. Lots of weeds especially on the tee boxes. Bunkers have water or are so dry they are like hitting the shot without any sand. A shame because it used to be such a fun place to play.
For the price through golf now it was ok.
The driving range was almost bare ground, even mats would have been better, tees almost in the same condition. The "sand traps" were just hard waste areas. Otherwise, it was a decent course.
Generally a well layout and maintained course, but certain spots are either dry or too wet.

Expect Wind
Not much in the way of trees to slow down the wind, hence the nearby wind farm. Good course, lots of water hazards. Only issue is a number of the fairways suffering from lack of water over the winter, sun damage. Nice greens, challenging holes. Out of the way enough that sunday rounds aren't brain damage.
the wind made for a fun day
its a fun course to play anytime for all golfers from beginers to scratch golfers
Good Value
The course could have better maintenance. 6,800 yds from the tips is ideal. There's one difficult par 5 in the front nine but for the most part, an easy course even with its length. All par 3 are nice. I recommend this course.
Best deal for money/quality balance
Senior community course but played long enough and firm and fast. Smooth rolling greens. Above average difficulty from back tees. Best burger at turn maybe ever. Cold Sierra Nevada too which will always bring me back.
Overall a great value for the money
This course is a great course to play, the tee areas are very good the fairways are great and the greens are in very good shape. The only problem I see are the bunkers, I know many of my friends who will rate a course either higher or lower if the sand traps are not well conditioned, seems like little to no sand in some traps, crusty and very hard to get out of. Played yesterday with 2 players who were a 2 and a plus 1 and never played there before, both of them bladed a sand wedge out at least once.
Please put some sand into the bunkers, it will make Rio Vista a top place to play in the bay area.
I like the course, and will be back many times this year.
It was fun!!
Got a deal with Golfnow for a 10:40 Sat Morning Tee Time and I had read the reviews and thought my buddies and i would take look. Found the course to be in reasonable shape, with some major issues in a couple of fairways. Green & Tees were good and the course in laid out well. Bunkers were terrible, but you are not supposed to be in them anyway... House lined all the way around. Had a good time and the 18th was worth waiting for. Definitely will be back..
Course in very good shape
We picked the perfect day to play at Roi Vista. Almost no wind. The fairways and greens are in good shape. It has been about 3 years since I last played at Rio Vista. I forgot how interesting the layout of the course was.
