Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

This course is going downhill
They used to have a great practice facility with chipping greens and sand traps. It's all gone now with no prospects for a future practice facility. Additionally, the overall condition of the course is not what it was. Even though the greens were recently aerated with small aerated holes, they were otherwise marked with large damaged areas and lots of deep divot type holes. The fairways were not much better. If it weren't for the super price on Golf Now I would never consider playing it again.
Dont waste your time.
GC @ Rio Vista is horrid. Fairways and rough are a mixture of dirt hard pan and dead grass. Whats left of the water in the ponds in brownish green and reeks a stinch so bad that the homeowners that live along the course continully complain, to no avail. Back nine greens are bumpy with dead spots, which is better than the front nines bumpy, dead and DESEASED greens..Course has been heading this bad direction a long time as ive played here for years as its a conveinent option living in Rio Vista. But now i go out of town to play. This place should be anyones last choice resort...anywhere but here.
Needs maintenance
RVGC is a decent track when maintained...right now the greens are bumpy and the fairways are half hard pan with grass sporadic. From what I can gather, the place just had a sale fall though...so...no one is maintaining it. Still, a fun layout at a great price...and the pace of play is 3.5...so, all told...better than work.
Greens need maintenance
This course used to be nice a couple of years ago. Now it seems that maintenance is badly needed on the greens and some of the fairways have no grass at all.
The course condition is atrocious!
The front nine obviously has some major disease in the fairways and greens., playing out of the traps is similar to hard pan. The back nine is in a lot better shape but far from acceptable. The last time I played here was in 2001-2002 and the course was pristine and well maintained. I will not return any time soon.
Course Hopefully gets better.
Have played this course numerous times now and still like it. In the process of fixing up the course. Fairways are in decent shape with some bare and dead spots. Sand traps, no sand but that is part of the fix going on. Greens are not in good shape but not terrible. You can see where they are fixing them. A few are not good but overall the rest of them are pretty decent. I love the course and I hope that they get it fixed up so I will continue to play here. I understand that the homeowners bought the course and are putting money into it to fix it up. The only thing I see in the future is, they are going to build homes on the driving range so I don't think they are going to have a range. Probably selling this off to get some money for the course. Well worth the money though for now.
This course is in very poor shape
This course is in very poor shape, play was extremely slow and players were not respecting the rules of golf. The group ahead of us drove their golf cart on to the fringe of the green more than once.
Very poor course condition
I was very disappointed with the condition of this golf course. Greens were damaged, standing water in the the fairways, bunkers that were either filled with water or unplayable and tee boxes so horrible that we had to make some of our own. We had fun because our group is that way, but it will be a long time before we trek out to Rio Vista to play this maintenance nightmare.
More ground under repair than grass. The course is in awful shape.
This course should be closed. The ponds are stagnant, the greens are like the surface of the moon, fairways are dirt. This course used to be fantastic...... what happened.....
Okay...
Good value but course in bad shape. Greens were bumpy and fairways need seeding. Bunkers lack sufficient sand base to make them playable. Some tee boxes is disrepair.
This course has a great features if it is maintained well
I've played this course more than twenty times and I have never seen the greens as bad as I saw this time
Great Value!!
I have probably only played a handful of courses more than I've played Rio Vista. Much of the reason is because of value. The course is always in decent condition, the wind makes it a challenge, and there are a lot of fun holes out there. But what does it for me is the great deals you can find pretty much every day! That is the best reason to give this place a try.
Nice course and layout. Needs a little attention but really fun to play.
Finally got to play this course with no wind. It does need some maintenance but I didn't find it as bad as some of the reviews suggest. The greens on the back nine are much better than the
front. I think that for the price I paid I got my money's worth out of this course and had a blast. Once they get things figured out I think this course will be back to the nice place it once was. Definitely playing here again.
Terrible course condition
This course is probably maintained and managed by the same company as Trilogy in Brentwood. Both Rio Vista and Brentwood Trilogy golf course tee boxes, fairways, and greens are in absolutely horrendous condition.
Rio Vista
Played this course last year, first time this year, course from tee boxes, fairways, to greens needs desperate maintenance. Just al lot of brown spots and open dirt areas. Course was almost deserted, now I know why. It was a good rate through Golf Now but I would pay more for a better maintained course.
Run Down
The residents surrounding this course are In negotiations to purchase it. They are very disappointed that the current owners have let it deteriorate. The greens are very bad, the water hazards smell, and the landscaping is in poor condition. This is a shame, since the course layout is very good, with interesting holes.
Lots of water and wind.
They were reseeding the tees and the course does require some attention but they are define toy maintaining it. The sand traps did have sand but it was compacted. There is always wind here and with the water and houses it makes it challenging. I will definetly come back here to play. For $10 it's a steal.
Great value
Had the place pretty much to ourselves. The conditions were in good shape. Restaurant staff & staff of course were great, friendly, and helpful. The four of us had a great time.
Challenging but in poor condition
Looks to have beenrecently aerated. Hard packed sand in bunkers with standing water. Wet and muddy spots in several of the fairways.
Great Course Fallen to Neglect
I played (Trilogy) Rio Vista Golf Club last year and really REALLY enjoyed it. When I had the chance to play it again yesterday (7-19-13) I was really excited....
But Wow, what a difference.
What happened to the well maintained course I played last year?
Tee Boxes - Terrible/Bald
Greens - Lumpy/Unkept
Fairways - Flooded in some parts yet dry and dead in other parts
Traps - Not one grain of sand on the entire course (dirt traps).
I spoke with some of the residents and they explained that there is an ownership/management dispute.
Come on folks, this place is better than this...put in the time, effort and resources to make things right.
