This classic golf course is arguably one of the top venues in the country. Pasatiempo was certainly one of designer Alister MacKenzie's favorites. The legendary architect made his home off the par-5 sixth hole and regarded the difficult, uphill 16th as one of the best par 4s ever designed by him or anyone else. To make it even better, the golf club embarked on a two-year restoration project headed up by Tom Doak. The result was nothing less than spectacular as bunkers and greens were to returned original specifications with modern turf and drainage technology. With its great design and elevation changes, Pasatiempo Golf Club plays much longer than its yardage and will test good players. The back nine is particularly strong, perhaps as good as any in the country.

Amazing course with Extremely Slow Greens

We love Pasatiempo, but when we played yesterday, the greens were extremely slow. Even our downhill putt didn't roll. The practice green was awesome, but it's totally different than the actual 18 holes greens.

The fairways and rough were in great shape.

Drinking water is available in 3 out of 4 places, 1 location by tee box #14 is not working. And all drinking water is not cold, it would have been nice if we had cold water in a warm day.

Iconic

Pasatiempo is simply a piece of golf history, and a must play!!

MacKenzie built an amazing course that will stand the test of time. Short by today standards, but the greens will give you all you can handle and then some.

Fun course to play, amazing bunkering. I walked the course to get the whole experience, definitely need to be in decent shape.

Pasatiempo is a must play, but look out for discounted rates!

Pasatiempo is a challenging course, with undulating fast greens, and great views. Unfortunately, today they had a temporary tee on #1, which was a shame. I played with a nice group of players, as we all enjoyed our time on the course.

As great as the weather was today, and the course was in good shape. I do not feel this course is worth its normal rate of $240. I was fortunate enough to play it at a discount of $155, plus $38 for a cart. I believe it’s worth playing at least once, but with Poppy Hills and other great courses nearby...it’s “regular” price is way too inflated.

A Classic

Pasatiempo is a classic course that uses terrain to challenge one's golf skills. It plays far longer than the yardage on the card--shorter holes are uphill, downhill holes are into the wind, there was little roll in the fairways, and the rough ate balls. Greens are grainy--speedy in one direction, slow in another--with a lot of slope. Most greens are well-bunkered. Most players should play at least one set of tees forward of what they think they should play.

Pasatiempo is a most beautiful pastime.

The staff was as friendly as could be and the members were very friendly and inviting. The first

hole tells you your in for a treat, but the par 3 #3rd hole tells you to bring your golf game. The golf course is a postcard waiting to be made, and the design and layout of the course was everything I expected. The greens are fast, the ruff is ruff, the fairways are tight, and a drive off to the left or right on most holes will cost you. Hole #8 is a gem with its hallway like fairway and #9 let’s you admire the club house up the hill. The back nine is challenging and it all starts with probably the hardest hole on the course; #11 hole can test From the tee to the green. If you hit the driver for good distances you can try for the second fairway over the ravine, but I would suggest to hit it straight up the fairway and lay upon the second shot. The green is we’re this one gets testy because it has a false front and if you miss the top tear you should be prepared to have your ball roll down the hill.

The #13 hole is beautiful and worth the price of admission so take a snap shot as you walk down its fairway. The #16 green is a three tiered green and depending on the pin placement it’s going to be challenging so get you distance right on this hole. The final hole #18 is a pleasant par three that’s ends the round on a great note. Pasatiempo was awesome and I can’t wait to play it again.

Very disappointing

For $200+ Pasatiempo is a huge rip off. I should have known just by looking at the junky driving range with limited flight balls, crappy mats, netting and mud everywhere. The most disappointing thing we’re the SLOW and bumpy greens. Probably ran 8 on the stimp meter. Areas outside tee boxes, fairways and greens were unkempt, visually unappealing and no better than a local muni. WE had to ask the ranger on #7 if we could play through a group ahead of us that had fallen at least 2 holes behind - and they had a fore caddy! I’d pay $70 to play Pasatiempo but no more. The fact that they charge $275 for some tee times is the biggest ripoff in the country.

As advertised

Played half moon bay day before and this blew it away. Every hole is memorable and the design is epic. Greens conditions were just ok since they were still recovering. Been lucky to play many greatness tracks and this made the top 5!

A Course You Need to Experience More than Once.

I've been fortunate enough to play Pasatiempo dozens of times over the last several years, and it's one of those courses that you really need to play multiple times to get a full appreciation for it. It's also one of those courses that is more fun the more you play it, and it never gets old. The first time I played Pasa I was a little in awe of the course - you just don't play very many courses like Pasatiempo. From the variety of holes, to the elevation changes, to the bunkering, to the green complexes, it's just a very unique golf experience.

One thing I realized is that you can't play Pasatiempo without a strategy, and expect to play well. The key to scoring here is having the right angles into greens, knowing where the tiers to the greens are, and knowing that you HAVE to keep the ball below the hole on most greens - especially when they're fast. Hitting some fairways are more important than others - #1, #7 and #13 come to mind for various reasons. The general rule of thumb on most of the driving holes is that you can't miss left.

There's a great variety to the Par 3's in particular - ranging between short holes like the 15th to the long par 3 3rd hole, and everything in between.

My favorite hole is probably the par 4 16th. It reminds me of a par 4 version of 13 at Augusta. If you're able to hit a draw off the tee that flies about 250 yards, you'll have a wedge left to a very difficult 3 tiered green, where you have to be precise if you want to score well. If you're on the wrong tier, you can 3-4 putt pretty easily. Just a great challenge from the drive, to the 2nd shot to the green - you can't fall asleep on any of them.

It's a unique/memorable golf experience - every hole has character, and you'll probably remember every hole and every shot on each hole. A must play, no question.

Magical

Played here 10 days after greens punched and I still didn't care. (50% greens fees helped salve the wound). Greens actually still rolled ok and obviously the rest of the course is incredible. I still am struck everytime I play here how good it is and how lucky we are to have a top MacKenzie in our backyards.

Go play!

3.5 hours!

Played the course at 8 am behind three walking members. Finished in 3.5 hours. It was incredible. I have played many high ensnared course but this was the best. Having been to Augusta national for the masters, this was the closest course I have played (only about 1000 yards shorter). Love it. A bit pricey but for a 3.5 hour round I was happy with the value.

Play it if you get the chance.

First Visit and I will be back.

The course is famous or infamous for the greens. They lived up to their reputation. They were generally fast and may were exceptionally difficult. At times the course felt tight and it wasn’t long by today’s standards. Overall a great outing.
