Pasatiempo Golf Club
About
This classic golf course is arguably one of the top venues in the country. Pasatiempo was certainly one of designer Alister MacKenzie's favorites. The legendary architect made his home off the par-5 sixth hole and regarded the difficult, uphill 16th as one of the best par 4s ever designed by him or anyone else. To make it even better, the golf club embarked on a two-year restoration project headed up by Tom Doak. The result was nothing less than spectacular as bunkers and greens were to returned original specifications with modern turf and drainage technology. With its great design and elevation changes, Pasatiempo Golf Club plays much longer than its yardage and will test good players. The back nine is particularly strong, perhaps as good as any in the country.

The par-4 14th. A great example of what makes this course special. Notice the hillocks and hummocks on the left side of the fairway. Otherwise, this would be a mundane hole, but this addition collects tee shots and makes the approach interesting. Photo submitted by BrandonWebb on 08/12/2017

Makenzie called the par-4 16th the greatest two-shotter in the world, largely due to the three-tiered green. No room for error long, short or right. Photo submitted by BrandonWebb on 08/12/2017

From behind the 11th green, one of the most difficult par 4s I've ever played. Requires two-to-three clubs up on approach. Photo submitted by BrandonWebb on 08/12/2017

Great course
We come to Calif twice a year to play golf in Pebble Beach..... but we always play Pasatiempo at least once during our 2 week trip. We always tell our friends to put this course on their must play list
Def. Among the Best courses in the world
This place is unreal. Not a blade of grass out of place. Front 9 is great, but the back nine is simply mind blowing. Phenomenal set of par 3s. Bunkering is the best I’ve ever seen. It’s a tough course, but it is mostly fair to the average golfer.
Excellent Golf Course!
What can I say about this course? It is very difficult and challenging so bring your "A" game. I consider myself a pretty good putter but found that if you're out of position on the greens you'll be in trouble. Anyways it''s good to be humbled every so often and that will happen here. Still I would recommend playing here and for sure I'll be back.
One of the best in the world
This is one of the best golf courses in the world. The green complexes are spectacular and create very challenging and fun/interesting putts and short game shots. The greens were as pure as could be. The back 9 on this course is truly special. Enjoy this classic design and appreciate the fact that the public gets an opportunity to play this Allister Mackenzie gem.
Excellent!!
I just love this course. I didn’t play well this time out, but it’s conditions are pristine and The design is FANTASTIC! I wish it wasn’t so expensive but it is definitely worth the green fee on the rare occasions I’m in town.
Pristine as always. Best semi public course in California outside of pebble and maybe spyglass
First time but will be back!
Pasatiempo had been on our list for a while so there was a lot of anticipation. They paired us with a member which turned out to be a huge benefit. A lot of course knowledge was provided which made the round more enjoyable. The greens are really hard to read. I think I 3 putted every one. Just couldn’t figure out. Very challenging course. Great time!
Course in amazing condition
Pasatiempo is always in good condition but right now they have it in amazing condition. Great round on a great course. Worth the drive no matter where your coming from.
One of the best courses in the WORLD
Pasatiempo deserves ALL the praise it gets - it's fun for all levels of golfers, gorgeous and challenging and so creative. The back nine might just be the best back nine in golf, at least at a course that allows for (some) public play. In particular, holes 10, 11, 14, 16 and 18 are all holes that you'll be thinking about for days if not weeks afterwards.
It's a very walkable course but there IS some holes with a lot of elevation so carts are available. It's consistently ranked in the top-20 public course in the country, and I feel like this is probably rating it too low. There's not a bad hole on the course (even the BRUTALLY long par-3 3rd hole is fairly incredible even as it chews you up and spits you out) and the vibe at the course is perfect.
I can't recommend it enough.
