About
Carlton Oaks Country Club is the only public Dye Design golf course in San Diego. The course is covered with hundreds of mature trees interspersed with sparkling blue lakes and meandering creeks. The layout offers a diverse mix of holes that all possess a unique character. They all offer different challenges in the form of either water hazards of strategically placed sand traps along the fairways. Tricky pot bunkers and interesting elevation changes were also incorporated into the design as well as Dye's signature railroad ties. There are five very different sets of tees that offer a challenging round from the back tees but also enough playability to appeal to a range of skill levels. In addition to the enjoyable layout, Carlton Oaks is one San Diego's most centrally located courses, sitting just minutes from downtown and many of the city's major attractions.

Great Value, Unexpected Surprise
Really enjoyed this course. Definitely unforgiving, but made great use of the river-centered layout and the staff was unbelievably friendly. We did not partake of food but it looked like a great setup and others we spoke to said it is kind of a social centerpiece for the neighborhood. Definitely would play again.
Slowest Course in East County
We had an 8am tee time and figured we would get a decent pace that early. We waited at least 15-20 mins on every hole. When we talked to the starter about the pace of play, he replied “there’s a group out there slowing everyone down, but we can only talk to them so many times.” Do your job. This is the slowest round I have ever played in my life and for 80$ it is a complete ripoff. Save your money and go play a different course.

Great shape
Course is in great shape. Really would be nice if they could revamp the 5 green. It’s unfortunately in very bad shape, rest of the course is as green as you’ll see it. You can tell work has being put in by the grounds crew

Average not worth $80 dollars
I tee off at 7:15am was pushed up to 7:06am
No biggie
The course used to be great I heard …Tiger competed on it but it has seen better days …it has a great lay out and cool hole locations but just not worth $80
Would be more of a $47 dollar I say based on conditions.
If it ever got back to being great conditions then it would be a good to for sure

Pace of play
For $80 they need to space tee times out. Always waiting 5-10 minutes on each tee box. I enjoy everything else just over priced.

It's getting better
The course is in better shape than it has been in years, thanks to the rain. I live right next to it, but quit playing there for years because it was in herendous shape. Some fairways still need more grass and the greens were very bumpy and apparently no one knows how to fix their ball marks. The practice matts should've been replaced years ago. I thought I'd give it one last try.

Horrible
The course was in horrible condition. The key boxes have sick. Grass greens are in horrible shape. Well, not Golf here ever again.
